Get In Her Ears Live @ The Finsbury w/ CLT DRP, 14.06.19

Following a host of amazing bands playing for us lately, including Crumbs, Mammoth Penguins, ARXX, Wolf Girl and Fightmilk, we were back at The Finsbury on Friday with another dream of a line-up, for a jam-packed night of the best new music from awesome womxn.

Kicking off the night is the sparkling, ‘mummycore’ riotpop of I, Doris. Treating us to an equal balance of tongue-in-cheek lyricism and groove-filled hooks, their catchy offerings ooze an infectious joy.

Next up, Lemondaze captivate with their soaring, shoegaze sounds. A relatively new band, their scuzzy dream-like haze is utterly immersive, as their deliver each hypnotic offering with a swirling, impassioned energy, marking them out as truly impressive; definite ones to watch worthy of every success.

Penultimate band of the night, Cryptic Street, blast into our ears and eyes with their ferocious energy and magnetising charisma. As front woman Leona bounds across the stage like a feisty whirlwind, the band deliver impressive riffs, enrapturing the crowd with their buoyant spirit (and even getting one super fan up on stage with them to join in the fun). Getting crowd-pleasing down to a fine art, Cryptic Street are a true force to be reckoned with.

Headliners, Brighton’s CLT DRP, succeed in completely blowing my mind. Delivering their immense, thrashing beats, fuzz-filled whirring hooks and soaring, gritty vocals with an empowered energy, each incredible raging cacophony leaves me utterly speechless. With stand-out lyrics such as “Read my mouth, you don’t own me”, CLT DRP’s breathtaking power lies not only in their unique electro-punk sound, but in the poignant, pertinent message they convey.

HUGE thanks to the four amazing bands who made Friday night so special! We really appreciate you coming to play for us. Don’t miss our next night at The Finsbury on 12th July with incredible headliners Witching Waves! RSVP here.

Track Of The Day: ARXX – ‘Iron Lung’

Following last year’s release of their incredible debut EP Daughters Of Daughters, and wowing crowds supporting the likes of Lady Bird and The Coathangers as well as at Cro Cro Land in April, GIHE faves ARXX have now shared a fantastically ferocious new single.

Wasting no time at all, ‘Iron Lung’ kicks off immediately with vocalist/guitarist Hannah blasting into our ears with her distinctive, penetrating growl: “Give me the iron lung”, she demands, as we’re instantly, once again, completely blown away by the Brighton duo’s unmatched raw power.

Showcasing all that we love about them, with ‘Iron Lung’ ARXX deliver their immense, ferocious sound to full effect. Driven by Hannah’s fierce emotion and Clara’s unrelenting thrashing beats, it rages with scuzzed-out hooks reminiscent of the catchy rock anthems of (personal heroes) Foo Fighters.

Despite the comparison, however (and it is a compliment of the highest, coming from me: a fangirl who’s seen Foos 14 times), ARXX truly are completely unique in both sound and energy. Having heard ‘Iron Lung’ live the last couple of times I’ve seen them, it’s wonderful to hear it recorded; capturing the raucous force of their live shows perfectly.

Without meaning to sound like a broken record, I really cannot stress strongly enough how incredible I think ARXX are. They stand out amongst a sea of new bands as a constant breath of fresh air; a mighty force to be reckoned with whose consistent dedication and energy to all they do is to be admired. They’re my most favourite power duo, deserving of every success that comes their way, and I cannot wait to see where their anthem-filled journey takes them next.

‘Iron Lung’ is out 7th June. Catch ARXX live:

10th August – Boardmasters Festival, Newquay
14th September – The Dome, Tufnell Park (Loud Women Fest)

Track Of The Day: LIINES – ‘On and On’

Following their 32-date tour around the UK with Sleaford Mods, GIHE faves and previous headliners for us at The Finsbury, LIINES return to the scene with their brand new single. A year after the release of their debut album Stop-Start, ‘On And On’ builds on their trademark rhythm-driven offerings with fantastically bright vocals and melodies.

Of the track, guitarist/vocalist Zoe McVeigh explains: “’On and On’ is about keeping everything down inside and driving yourself mad with the same looped thoughts.

‘On and On’ plays on this idea with its repeating chorus structure and lyrics, completely holding its own. Prominent guitar riffs and thrashing percussion behind the breathtakingly bold vocals create LIINES’ stand-out post-punk vibe, setting them apart as wholly individual. Packing a mighty punch, it’s another truly impressive offering from the trio.

‘On and On’ is out 24th May via Reckless Yes. Pre-order on Bandcamp and pre-save on Spotify now. Catch LIINES live:

30th May – Thousand Island, London (w/ fellow faves Chorusgirl, Art Trip and The Static Sound)
31st May – Bodega, Nottingham
1st June – Yes, Manchester

Get In Her Ears Live @ The Finsbury w/ Crumbs, 10.05.19

Following a host of amazing bands playing for us lately, including Mammoth Penguins, ARXX, Wolf Girl, Sit Down and Fightmilk, we were back at The Finsbury on Friday with another dream of a line-up, for a jam-packed night of the best new music from awesome womxn.

Kicking things off is Birmingham born, London-based artist Rookes. Oozing a sparkling, magnetising charisma, she takes full command of the stage, delivering her electro-infused anthemic pop, as the subtle power of her shimmering vocals flows into our ears.

Next up, London duo Sophie Peacock and Natalie Healey – aka Panic Pocket – treat our ears to their twinkling indie-pop. Interspersing each uplifting ditty with charming cat-filled tales, it’s impossible not to be instantly cheered whilst singing along to their infectious, synth-filled melodies and refreshing, tongue-in-cheek wit.

Having not seen third band of the night live before, I was not prepared for just how intoxicatingly powerful Charismatic Megafauna‘s performance would be. Delivering their unique, percussion-filled electro-punk, all-the-while swapping instruments, they blast out empowering, patriarchy-smashing anthems, covering topics from sexual abuse, to diet foods and female ejaculation. Completely breathtaking.

Headliners Crumbs continue to wow the packed-out venue with their fiery post-punk. With funk-fused basslines, scuzzy hooks and impassioned vocals, they ooze a gritty, buoyant power which has the whole crowd buzzing and bouncing with enthused energy.

Massive thanks to the four bands and artists who played for us on Friday; you were all absolutely incredible. It was such a great night filled with amazing live music and the best of vibes! And make sure you don’t miss our next night at The Finsbury on 14th June with headliners CLT DRP.
