Premiere: Martha Bean – ‘Along The Lonely’

Having supported the likes of Marika Hackman and Seth Lakeman, Leicester-based artist Martha Bean has now announced the release of her new EP, Here Comes The Snowstorm.

Taken from the EP, new single ‘Along The Lonely’ flows with luscious twinkling melodies and the smooth allure of Bean’s rich, soulful vocals. Questioning the motives behind our longing for relationships, it oozes a heartfelt stirring emotion alongside a subtle jazzy musicality, creating a beautifully reflective ballad, reminiscent of the likes of Daughter. Of the meaning behind the track, Bean explains:

We all need someone… and that can be beautiful. But some people just want a ring on their finger and someone to moan at when they forget their anniversary. Is that ‘love’? Is that OK?”

Listen to ‘Along The Lonely’, for the first time, here:

Here Comes The Snowstorm, the upcoming new EP from Martha Bean, is out 1st November.

Track Of The Day: Superglu – ‘Forever Endeavour’

Having been firm favourites of ours with previous offerings such as ‘Weekend’ and ‘Dreams’, and having wowed us with their incredible live show at our first ever gig at The Finsbury, Manningtree band Superglu are back with their first single in two years, and we couldn’t be happier!

Oozing the band’s trademark buoyant energy, ‘Forever Endeavour’ reminds us of all we’ve been missing over the last couple of years. Filled with a gentle sentimentality that we may not have heard in previous releases, alongside those scuzzy hooks and whirring harmonies that we all know and love, this new single is sure to add a little bit of sunshine to these dark Autumn evenings; an instantly uplifting and immensely infectious indie-pop anthem.

Of the track, lead vocalist Ben explains:

The band had stopped making music and my girlfriend Krista (and bass player) was preparing to move to Berlin. I was at a low point. As I sat in my house strumming the chords and singing the verse, I heard Krista singing a potential chorus whilst packing upstairs: “Remember the good times” seemed to summarise it all… This is a love-letter from me and Krista to both SuperGlu and one another – a swan song we thought no one would hear has found new meaning and brought SuperGlu back to life.”

‘Forever Endeavour’ is out now via Don’t Try. Catch Superglu live (we were gutted to miss them in London last night!):

16th October – The Lending Room, Leeds
17th October – The Basement, York
18th October – Record Junkee, Sheffield
19th October – Wild Paths Festival, Norwich
