Track Of The Day: Black Needle Noise – ‘System Bi’ (Feat. Fakeba)

Black Needle Noise is the latest project from producer and musician John Fryer, who has previous production credits with the likes of Depeche Mode, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails, Love and Rockets and HIM.

His most recent release ‘SyStem Bi’ is a collaboration with Senegalese vocalist FAKEBA, and it brims with atmospheric, sharply-produced electronics and powerful vocals which make the hairs on the back of listener’s necks rise up.

Dakar-based FAKEBA sings in her native Wolof language, creating a fusion between genres and continents “merging tradition with futurism”. This single is accompanied by a video by Gina Czarnecki, derived from her film Spintex, which encapsulates the multiple, interconnected daily rhythms of physicality and mortality.

Listen to the incredible ‘System Bi’ below and follow Black Needle Noise & FAKEBA on Facebook for more updates.

‘System Bi’ is available to download from Bandcamp now.

Track Of The Day: The Go! Team – ‘All The Way Live’

With a brand new album due out later this month, musical collective The Go! Team have now shared a new single, following their last release ‘Mayday’.

Taken from their upcoming album, ‘All The Way Live’ is filled with all the uptempo break-beats and soaring, brass melodies you could ever desire. Racing with a frenzied energy and playful, vibrant joy, it fuses together elements of hip-hop, soul and pop to create another immediately infectious, dance-inducing earworm from this magnificent band. Of the track, Ian Parton explains:

“‘All the Way Live’ is just an all out brass attack set to some pretty cheeky rapping. Lots of the voices are sampled from a record made as a kinda after school hip hop project by students of Carver Senior High, Chicago in 1983. We managed to track down the teacher behind the project – Mr. Harris – to clear it. It wasn’t really the fact it was old skool that attracted me but the personality and cheekiness that was jumping off the vinyl…”

Semicircle, the upcoming album from The Go! Team, is out 19th January via Memphis Industries – pre-order here. And catch the band live:

09 Feb – Glasgow, Oran Mor
10 Feb – Leeds, Wardrobe
11 Feb – Brighton, Haunt
15 Feb – London, Electric Ballroom

Track Of The Day: Aisha Badru – ‘Bridges’

As the new year dawns bright, New York singer-songwriter Aisha Badru’s first UK single ‘Bridges’, and its accompanying video, are a great start.

‘Bridges’ has a lush, enveloping sound; featuring Aisha’s soft, soothing vocals like sparkling ripples on water. It is a positive song, offering hope in a powerfully subtle way, as it explores the persistence required in relationships. It’s a song about not giving in, despite differences – “There’ll be oceans for us to tread, There’ll be bridges for us to mend, But I’ll stick to it”.

The delicate voice and lyrics blend folk and electronica with violins and piano keys in a beautiful orchestration of feeling, making the listener stop and absorb the lyrics and message: a universal one of unwavering love despite the obstacles – “We were worlds apart, so I fell from the stars, I travelled long and I travelled far.” A song that begins with lyrics as beautiful as these will capture your heart, and start a quiet revolution. Often the greatest obstacle that we face is ourselves, and this song offers transcendence of limitations.

‘Bridges’ is the lead single on Aisha Badru’s forthcoming debut album due this year, via Nettwerk Music Group.
