LISTEN: Hari Debi – ‘Bang’

A slow-burning guitar anthem that celebrates the power of female sexuality, London rockers Hari Debi have shared their latest single ‘Bang’. Accompanied by a smoking set of monochrome visuals featuring vocalist Maddy Jones cutting loose and enjoying herself in front of the lens, the track is a riff heavy ode to female desire that simmers with riotous passion.

Formed of Maddy, Mark Docherty (guitar), Jack Hall (bass) and Luis Bezzi (drums), Hari Debi take inspiration from The Kills, Saint Agnes and Dead Weather to create their bold rock and roll sounds. They released their first EP Loose Thread in 2020 and are planning to share a second EP later this year, with ‘Bang’ being the first taste of what’s to come.

“Musically the song is a metaphor for passion,” the four piece explain about the track. “It burns fast and frantic, then evens out into a slow riff before reigniting to an explosive conclusion.” Through Mark’s killer riffs and Maddy’s fervent vocals, the band celebrate the confidence and autonomy that comes with a healthy sexual appetite, even though women often experience sexist double standards when they choose to embrace their own.

LISTEN: Lotic – ‘Cocky’

Experimental sounds and assertive lyrics combine with dramatic flair on ‘Cocky’, the latest single from Houndstooth signee Lotic. Following on from her previous single ‘Burn A Print’, Lotic continues her message of self-belief and empowerment on this defiant new track.

“‘Cocky’ is a song for the girls,” explains Lotic. “It’s a reminder to always recognize and demand your worth. It grants permission to radically stand in your truth, even when it may shock or offend, and most of all it’s a celebration of growth, prosperity, and confidence.” It’s this traffic-stopping attitude that fuels the demanding, energetic nature of Lotic’s electronic tunes.

Born in Houston USA but now a familiar face on the Berlin underground club and electronic music scene, Lotic (aka J’Kerian Morgan) shared her debut album Power in 2018. The record showcased her vocal and songwriting abilities for the first time, consolidating her skills into a coherent message about transforming fear in to fierce autonomy.

As with all her releases, Lotic declares that her mission is to “live life to the fullest by not giving a fuck about what anybody thinks,” which she effortlessly achieves on ‘Cocky’. Listen to the track below and follow Lotic on Facebook & Spotify for more updates.

Track Of The Day: Kill J – ‘Dead Weight Soldier’

Copenhagen’s Kill J is back with a new track and accompanying set of visuals titled ‘Dead Weight Soldier’ – and revenge is at the forefront of her mind. Following her fiercely political release ‘Strange Fruits of The Sea’, this is the second track from her forthcoming album Superposition, which is set to be a poignant and unapologetic listen.

Kill J combines her usual bitter sweet vocals and distracting electronic beats to give ‘Dead Weight Soldier’ a startling sonic power. The music video, directed by J6 Films is equally as intriguing; shot in monochrome and set in a bleak industrial environment.

Speaking about the track, Kill J explains: “It’s based on a revenge fantasy. A retaliation against an incompetent man that I have encountered quite a few times in different forms throughout my life: full of hot air, an egomaniac driven by sex and power. A person that has no real talent but is very good at taking credit for other people’s achievements.”

Kill J’s ruthless musical efforts have kept us hooked over the last few months, and we’re eager to hear more from this unusual artist. Listen to ‘Dead Weight Soldier’ below and follow Kill J on Facebook for more updates.
