Get In Her Ears Live @ The Victoria w/ Currls, 05.11.2021

Last Friday we were back for our first gig since February 2020 and what a glorious night it was! Huge thanks to the three incredible bands who played for each putting on a fantastic show, and to everyone who came out to support them and us in this first venture into hosting live music for over eighteen months…. We’re still feeling all the feels, and are extremely grateful to everyone who made it such a lovely night.

First up is the totally dreamy, shoegaze-tinged sounds of Schande. Treating us to a set of shimmering sonic delights old and new, they delive a perfectly head-bopping, heart-bursting set to start the evening.

Next up, The Other Ones blast onto the stage with their infectious riotous energy. With a playful charisma, they deliver their vibrant punk-pop with a swirling, gritty power as the crowd bounce and sing along in joyous unity (especially to a surprise cover of Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’)…

Drawing the night to a euphoric close, headliners – Brighton’s Currls – treat us to their sweeping, empowering brand of garage rock. Propelled by an immense rhythm section, front woman Holly delivers soaring soulful vocals with an effortless grace and sparkling witty rapport with the crowd. A band to watch for sure, it’s an honour to host their first London headline show.

Hope to see you all next month for our next gig, our first ever at The Shacklewell Arms, on 3rd December with Belfast punks Problem Patterns, and support from pink suits and GUTTS.

LIVE (Photos): LIINES @ The Grace, London, 09.09.2021

It’s been a long eighteen months, but gigs as we know and love them are slowly starting to return… Following an epic night capturing Berries at The Grace last month, our photographer Jon Mo returned to the North London venue last night to witness the swirling force of GIHE faves LIINES live.

Kicking off the night, Anna Vincent (Heavy Heart, Happyness) charmed the crowd with the glistening allure and heartfelt emotion of her lilting soundscapes. A perfectly dreamy start to the night.

Next up, previous headliners of more than one GIHE live night, ĠENN deliver an energy-fuelled set. Oozing their immense, empowering spirit alongside impressive riffs and racing beats, they never fail to enrapture the crowd with their unique charisma and buoyant spirit.

Celebrating the release of their potent new single, ‘Keep On Going‘, long-term faves and previous GIHE headliners LIINES don’t disappoint, blasting out their brooding, relentless sonic explosions with a frenetic sense of urgency. As Zoe’s distinctive raw vocals soar, the Manchester trio prove once again that they’re a truly sublime force to be reckoned with.

Get In Her Ears Live @ The Finsbury w/ Grawl!x, 14.02.20

Following a host of amazing bands playing for us throughout 2019, including Screaming Toenail, Salad, GENN, Chorusgirl and Witching Waves, and Personal Best kicking off 2020 in empowering style, we were back at The Finsbury on Friday for our second gig of the year, with a rather dreamy line-up for Valentine’s Day.

Kicking off the night are post-punk duo I Am HER. Captivating the crowd with the soaring majesty of her gritty vocals, front woman Julie Riley delivers their dark, stirring anthems with a raw emotion.

Second band of the night, Captain Handsome, treat us to their twinkling indie-folk gems with a refreshing wit and sparky charm. With an infectious lo-fi scuzz alongside shimmering violin melodies and Lily’s perfectly relatable lyricism, their effervescent, catchy offerings tug at the heartstrings in all the right ways – providing the perfect Valentine’s/Anti-Valentine’s soundtrack.

Having initially been set to headline, but swapping set times due to travel issues, Piney Gir take to the stage with all their colour-coordinated sparkling charm. Oozing an infectious joy, Piney and her band deliver their fitting honey-sweet romanticism and shimmering catchy melodies. As an endearing, vibrant energy flows throughout, they treat us to a truly uplifting half hour of the most dreamy tunes.

New headliners, Derby-based Grawl!x, bring the night to a captivating close with their euphoric cinematic soundscapes. With a brand new album out today, they deliver their twinkling electronic hooks and spellbinding harmonies as Maria’s distinctive impassioned vocals soar. A truly enchanting set oozing a poignant stirring emotion.

Get In Her Ears Live @ The Finsbury w/ Personal Best, 10.01.20

Following a host of amazing bands playing for us throughout 2019, including Screaming Toenail, Salad, GENN, Chorusgirl, Witching Waves and CLT DRP, we were back at The Finsbury on Friday for our first gig of the year, with another dream of a line-up, for a jam-packed night of the best live music.

Kicking things off is the dreamily delightful ‘heartland rock’ of newly formed Athabaska. Alternating between the impassioned, crystalline vocals of Faith Taylor (Suggested Friends) and the delicate emotion of those of bassist Roxy, they treat us to a heart-warming shimmering folk-strewn musicality and luscious sweeping harmonies.

Next up Nun Habit deliver their fuzzy, infectious garage pop with a unique, quirky energy. With shades of the jangly synth-driven soul of the likes of Young Fathers, whether guitarist Gregory or bassist Kate is leading the vocals, they ooze a vibrant spirit and immersive, sparkling charisma.

One of my ‘Ones To Watch’ for 2020, London trio Hurtling are third band of the night. With their sun-drenched whirring hooks and the swirling subtle power of Jen Macro’s (My Bloody Valentine) distinctive effervescent vocals, they deliver their fuzz-filled noise-pop anthems with a captivating, psychedelic haze.

I’ve been keen to see headliners Personal Best for a while now, and they definitely don’t disappoint. With a joyous punk-rock energy, their “classic rock for tragic lesbians” fills the venue with adoring fans as immense, frenetic riffs are blasted out alongside pure pop harmonies and a sparkling energy. Drawing the night to a memorable close, front person Katie Gatt dedicates their set closer to the queer community. As a sea of buoyant voices joins in with “I wanna kiss you in the street, where everyone can see… ’cause this is what we look like”, the poignancy of the lyrics in these uncertain times is overwhelming, and an empowering sense of unity takes hold as the crowd heaves with bodies dancing and singing in solidarity. A really special end to what’s been a night filled with the most life-affirming vibes.
