WATCH: Queen Kwong – ‘Raptures’

A beguiling request to escape unwanted memories: Queen Kwong has shared visuals to accompany her latest track ‘Raptures’. Deemed “a portrayal of both her personal and creative freedom”, the video shows Queen Kwong (aka Carré Callaway) running in to the dark, before turning defiantly to face the lens.

Taken from her latest full length album Love Me To Death, the new video comes alongside the news that Queen Kwong will be supporting Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on their tour dates throughout July, as well as playing a handful of headline shows in London, Brighton, Manchester & Leeds.

Following her impressive 2015 debut Get A Witness, Queen Kwong’s latest record Love Me To Death (released via Edison Sound) is a powerful collection of tracks that explore “mental health, vicious industry misogyny, self-discovery and casual nihilism”.

Watch the video for ‘Raptures’ below, and head down to London’s Rough Trade East on 27th July to buy a copy of the record and to get it signed by Callaway herself.

Track Of The Day: LibraLibra – ‘Tongues’

Bursting with bubblegum pink and vibrant beats, Brighton’s LibraLibra have shared their new video for latest single ‘Tongues’. Filmed, directed and edited by Elliot Tatler, the footage is a pastel-infused visual feast of eye-catching make-up, costumes and set pieces.

Speaking about the new track, vocalist Beth Cannon explains: “‘Tongues’ evolved out of frustration, anger and suffering. I can only hope that this song speaks to those who have been outcast and turned into a pariah, abused – losing their sense of pride and being stripped completely bare, then left shamed within society.”

LibraLibra were previous guests on our Hoxton Radio show, where they discussed the ‘Tongues’ single launch gig at The Green Door Store, which included decorating the venue to look like a womb. We’re big fans of LibraLibra’s quirky cacophonies and bold, exciting aesthetics.

Track Of The Day: Something Leather – ‘Disappear On Me’

After catching them live at We Can Do It’s single launch for Big & The Fat a few weeks ago, we’ve had the sounds of Brighton-based Something Leather swirling round our skulls. Their dark, trippy alternative tunes have kept us in a sultry haze, fuelled by their jagged keys and brooding bass lines.

The band recently released their single ‘Disappear On Me’ and have shared an accompanying video, which shows them having a good(?) time at a party, cut with shots of them performing the track live. It’s an anti-party anthem that ricochets between loud and quiet, up and down, mad and melancholy – just like us on a hangover…

Something Leather return to London on 10th June to play the Leech All-Dayer at Sebright Arms, featuring A Void, Guru, Gaygirl, Hexmaze and more acts to be announced (RSVP here).

Watch the video for ‘Disappear On Me’ below.
