PREMIERE: Kama Vardi – ‘These Days’

Having spent a nomadic youth travelling, experimenting and creating, Tel Aviv based artist Kama Vardi has released a stream of solo material to much acclaim, and has now announced a brand new album, set for release this Autumn.

Taken from the album, new single ‘These Days’ may be a cover of the Nico classic, but it showcases Vardi’s unique sparkling majesty. Maintaining all the beguiling allure of the original, this rendition oozes a captivating mysticism as the shimmering splendour of Vardi’s distinctive vocals and the gentle lilting melodies create a soothing, poignant lullaby. A strikingly beautiful moment of much-needed tranquility at a time when we need it the most.

Of the decision to cover ‘These Days’, Vardi explains:

“‘These Days’ – no longer a gambler, a talker, a lover. It is a song of a woman who had great adventures that left her standing humble, wide eyed and weary in front of the rest of her life, a feeling I was familiar with from a young age.

Filmed at a small countryside studio in the middle of nowhere, watch the charmingly comforting video for ‘These Days’ now:

Moonticket, the upcoming album from Kama Vardi, is out 27th November via Bread For Eskimos Records.

PREMIERE: Mothercanyouhearme – ‘Knowing You’

Following last year’s Mother Nature album, London duo Rosie Krause and Georgia Mancey – aka Mothercanyouhearme – have now announced the release of new EP, People².

Taken from the EP, new single ‘Knowing You’ oozes an uplifting jangly scuzz as a lilting romanticism flows alongside catchy sunny hooks, and a subtle gritty angst. With their new EP People² set for release this summer, Mothercanyouhearme pride themselves on being completely DIY and raising awareness to create a safe space for queer identifying women or allies within the music scene. The EP is self produced by guitarist Rosie, and all artwork has been done by drummer Georgia; and it all comes with an accompanying zine – wonderfully entitled ‘Maga Can You Zine Me’ – celebrating a number of female creatives, which you can find out more about here.

PREMIERE: Jordana Lilly – ‘Locked Up’

Having released her debut album Small Capitals earlier this year, LA-based artist Jordana Lilly has now shared her catchy new single.

Celebrating self-acceptance, ‘Locked Up’ (ironically written before ‘lockdown’), oozes an uplifting summer groove as Lilly’s rich crystalline vocals flow with a soulful splendour. Propelled by an infectious, danceable energy and lilting positive vibes, it’s an instantly catchy slice of playful, funk-infused pop; the perfect accompaniment for safely catching some rays during this weekend’s heatwave. Of the track, Lilly explains:

It’s essentially about being stuck with yourself, and the journey to accepting that, then going so far as to celebrate it. Perspective shifting has saved my life and my sanity, more times than I can count. Maintaining positive mental health is all about doing the work – which is something I think then whole world is really realising right now.

Listen to ‘Locked Up’, for the first time, here:

‘Locked Up’ is out 10th August via Beardfire Music.

Propelled by the subtle ethereal power of Kester’s vocals alongside lilting twinkling melodies and a poignant reflective lyricism, it oozes a stirring, heartfelt emotion reminiscent of the likes of Laura Veirs or This Is The Kit. A truly dreamy ballad, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the swirling majestic splendour of ‘Cigarette Song’.
