Premiere: AyOwA – ‘Is It You Love?’

Following previous releases such as ‘First Frost’ and ‘Alt Det Du Ku’, and having charmed us with the hypnotic beauty of their live set at Notting Hill Arts Club last year, Danish duo AyOwA have now announced the release of a new album, set for release this Autumn.

Taken from the upcoming album, ‘Is It You Love?’ offers a mysterious longing for something that once was. A swirling, evocative soundscape, twinkling keys flow as throbbing beats provide the backdrop for Hannah Schneider’s soaring, rich vocals. Creating an ethereal slice of intoxicating electro-pop, ‘Is It You Love’ oozes a stirring, majestic splendour, immersing the listener completely in its smooth, cinematic grace.

Premiere: Ana De Llor – ‘Penelope’

Having previously received acclaim from the likes of BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, Lisbon-born London-based artist Ana De Llor has now shared her haunting second single.

Inspired by Greek mythology and women’s place in society, ‘Penelope’ is propelled by the tribal beats of Portuguese frame drums and a glitchy groove, as the soaring, subtle power of De Llor’s rich majestic vocals flows over an innovative, electro-infused soundscape. A truly spellbinding offering bathing in a sparkling hypnotic allure and exquisite cinematic grace.

Of the meaning behind the track, De Llor expands:

“As a woman, I feel we are not allowed to be as sexually liberated, the same way Penelope wasn’t in the Odyssey. It was expected of her to turn down any suitors that came onto her while her husband was away on an indefinite journey that amounted to twenty years in the end. While away, he made the decision to move on and lay with Goddesses, nymphs and common girls alike. I wanted to imagine a world where Penelope moved on and chose to be happy instead. Where she put her needs and her desires first.”

‘Penelope’ is out tomorrow, 26th June.

Video Premiere: Bugeye – ‘Blue Fire’

Following their last uplifting single, ‘When The Lights Go Out’, and with acclaim from the likes of John Kennedy and Amazing Radio, GIHE faves Bugeye have now shared another offering from their upcoming debut album.

Raging with Angela Martin’s gritty, sultry vocals and whirring electro hooks, ‘Blue Fire’ is perhaps more disco and less punk than previous releases, but maintains all the colourful pizzazz and magnificent vibrant energy that we’ve come to know and love from the band. A perfect uptempo blast of life that we all need right now.

A woman of many talents (musician, songwriter, promoter, manager, mother and now film-maker, to name a few!), Angela has now made a beautiful homemade new video for ‘Blue Fire’. An immersive collage of footage of the band spliced together with poignant clips of masked protesters, it perfectly captures all the colour and retro energy of Bugeye, whilst oozing a striking riotous force in these uncertain times. A necessary watch from this awesome group of wonder-women.

Video Premiere: Weekend Recovery – ‘There’s A Sense’

Having previously blasted into our ears with 2018’s album Get What You Came For, and with acclaim from the likes of NME, Radio X and  Kerrang!, Leeds three-piece Weekend Recovery are back with an energy-fuelled new single.

Reflecting the intensity of being an artist in the music industry, ‘There’s A Sense’ is an immensely catchy slice of garage-infused pop-punk. Propelled by front woman Lori’s soaring, impassioned vocals, swirling hooks race with a raging energy; leaving you ready for more of its infectious, blazing force.

Accompanied by a DIY homemade video featuring spliced together footage of a variety of friends and family rocking out to the track, it offers an uplifting sense of togetherness and unity in these scary, uncertain times. Oozing a buoyant, gritty power alongside a sense of glimmering hope that shines through, ‘There’s A Sense’ is guaranteed to get you up dancing and singing along, much like the stars of the video. If you’re missing that unique euphoric joy only to be found at live gigs, this video’s definitely for you.

Of the video, Lori explains:

We had such an awesome idea for our video, but because of the current situation we had to (as with many businesses, artists etc) make adjustments. So we decided to reach out to our friends, families and supporters help make this very humbling version for our new song. It’ll also be nice to look back in a few months or years to remind ourselves every cloud has a silver lining and, although covid is terrible, it’s also brought us together. Thank you to everyone who helped us with this, it’s really brought a smile in the darkest of times.”
