Premiere: Muertos – ‘Suck It Up’

London-based Muertos combine the songwriting of De Avis and Marc Crane to create their vintage garage sleaze. Now, following their acclaimed debut EP, they’re back to treat our ears to the title track of their upcoming debut album.

‘Suck It Up’ is a dark, gritty slice of desert-rock. Flowing with swooning harmonies, reminiscent of The Kills or BRMC, it builds to a heady climax of swirling, psychedelic haze. An immense sonic delight, it will suck you in and leave you longing for more of Muertos’ eerily addictive offerings.

Of the track, Marc Crane explains:

“The world is a bit strange at the moment and this song is about wanting to get away from it all. Away from the orange goblin in the White House, Brexit, horrible commutes and shattered economy. It’s that feeling, when you are wound up and the least helpful thing someone can do is tell you to calm down and it makes you want to bang their head into a table. This song exists on that space of tension, where you want to BURN EVERYTHING. There is no tidy resolution to this story – we don’t do happy endings. Suck it up!”

Suck It Up,
the debut album from Muertos, is out 24th August via Roadkill Records. Pre-order here. Catch Muertos live at the following dates:

8th June – New Cross Inn, London (Single Launch)
24th August – Shacklewell Arms, London (Album Launch)

Premiere: Coltana – ‘Bitter Sweet’

Having previously blown us away with the visceral energy of ‘Break Her’, Brixton’s Coltana have now announced their debut EP.

Taken from the EP is frenzied new single ‘Bitter Sweet’. Propelled by whirring hooks and front-woman Cat’s impassioned spoken word vocals, it races with a thrashing energy and the band’s trademark refreshing brutal honesty. Building to a raging climax complete with slick riffs, it’s a riotous blast of sound that’ll hit your ears with its defiant ferocious force.

Of the track, Cat explains:

“‘Bitter Sweet’ has all the ingredients that Coltana like to cook with. Light and heavy dynamics, spoken word-esq vocals followed by sing along choruses and a guitar solo thrown in for good measure. This song packs a punch but manages to push and pull the listener in the right direction at every juncture. Go Listen!”

Listen to ‘Bitter Sweet’, for the first time, here:

Premiere: Baby Raptors – ‘Time Is Money’

A collaboration between Brooklyn artist Tora and producers John Young and Evan Marien – aka Party Supplies -, Baby Raptors have already achieved Top 40 UK dance chart success with previous single ‘I Am My Only Love’, which drew comparisons to the legendary Madonna. Now, following the acclaim of last year’s self-titled EP, Baby Raptors are about to head out on a huge US tour supporting pop duo Time Flies, and have treated our ears to the luscious sounds of their brand new single…

An uplifting and infectious slice of glitchy synth-wave, ‘Time Is Money’ flows with Tora’s rich, soulful vocals and a sparkling energy. An instant dance-floor filler, it’ll stick in your ears on first listen and leave you wanting more of Baby Raptors’ irresistible, feel-good offerings.

Premiere: MeMe Detroit – ‘Soc Med Junkies’

Following singles ‘How She Runs’ and their distinctive rendition of Bowie’s ‘Ashes To Ashes’, MeMe Detroit have spent the last year wowing crowds across the country – including us at The Finsbury! – with their immense raging energy. And now, the Birmingham band are ready to share a brand new video.

Blasting out racing, raucous riffs and thrashing beats, ‘Soc Med Junkies’ is a gritty slice of infectious rock ‘n’ roll. Commenting on modern society’s addiction to social media, it’s filled with raw, seething vocals and an impassioned, rousing magnetism, with shades of the likes of rock legends Foo Fighters. And then, just as you start to find yourself utterly immersed in the track’s soaring energy, you’re greeted by a disconcerting pause in the middle of the video as you wait for it to ‘buffer’ (a nice touch to the social media theme), before being penetrated by MeMe’s riotous power once more.

Proving once again that they’re a sonic force to be reckoned with, MeMe Detroit remain firm favourites with this insightful and enjoyable latest offering.
