VIDEO PREMIERE: The Nyx – ‘Keep It Candid’ (Margo’s Living Room, Special Edition)

We’ve made no secret of our love for The Nyx here at GIHEs, so we’re excited to be premiering an exclusive video for their new track ‘Keep It Candid’. Shot in Margo’s Living Room by John Clay at Hermitage Works, the footage shows the band doing what they do best – losing themselves in a cacophony of their own sound.

The Nyx will be playing for Who Run The World at The Victoria on 17th May, alongside Bugeye, Pussyliquor & Militant Girlfriend (RSVP here). Make sure you head down to see the live fury of these ‘Fire Breathing Ladies’ and check out their video for ‘Keep It Candid’ below.

Track Of The Day: Nova Twins – ‘Hit Girl’

Nova Twins were already on our ‘Hitlist’ after we reviewed their knockout EP Mood Swings last year, but with the release of new single ‘Hit Girl’ they’ve rocketed right back to the top of it.

Accompanied by a sleek monochrome video, ‘Hit Girl’ seethes with Nova Twins’ trademark lethal attitude and deviously distorted bass lines. “I’m just a girl / I’m feeling hostile” snarls guitarist & vocalist Amy, a line that resonates as deeply as Georgia’s thundering bass lines. The pair want to show the world that women – particularly women of colour – are not going to be overlooked in music anymore.

When speaking to AFROPUNK, the girls explained: “We wanted to kill people’s perception of what a rock act – and women in music – should look like/sound like! Women of colour still get pigeon-holed into genre specifics, like R&B or Hip Hop, and although we are amazing at performing these genres, we also pioneered a lot of other things too.”

With their defiant new single and existing dedication to challenging industry norms, Nova Twins have us riled and ready for more ferocious new music in 2018. Watch the video for ‘Hit Girl’ below and get your tickets for their headline gig at The Victoria on 24th May here (tickets are also available on DICE)

Dance Like I’ve Got Diamonds Present Christmas Extravaganza In Support Of Nia

Following a year filled with putting on events successfully promoting women in music, Dance Like I’ve Got Diamonds are now announcing their last event of 2017, taking place on 6th December at The Victoria, Dalston. In true Christmas spirit this last event will focus on giving back to society, with all net profits from the event going to women’s aid organisation Nia. As always, the event will feature a female dominated line-up, this time consisting of GIHE favourites Dream Nails and West London’s Baby Arms, plus some very special guests.

Recent events such as the #metoo movement have raised a new debate about what most women already knew, how extremely widespread the sexual, physical and psychological violence against women still is and that it can be found almost anywhere – especially in close relationships. With their Christmas Extravaganza event, Dance Like I’ve Got Diamonds wish to continue the debate about what can be done to end men’s violence against women, by giving back to their local community and supporting women’s aid organisation Nia, who specialise in helping victims of rape and domestic violence.

And who better to headline this event that feminist punk witches, and absolute heroes of ours, Dream Nails. With their ‘Girls to the front!’ ethos and aim to create a safe-space for women and non-binary people at each and everyone of their shows, they’re bound to make this an event to remember.

Tickets to the event on 6th December at The Victoria are available now from Dice, at £6 per person. All net profits from the event will go straight to the chosen charity Nia and their work towards ending violence against women and children.
