Video Premiere: MALMØ – ‘The Way’ (feat. Eivør)

Following captivating singles such as ‘You’ and ‘We Come From The Stars’, Danish five piece MALMØ have now teamed up with acclaimed Faroese artist Eivør (Game of Thrones, God of War, The Last Kingdom) for latest offering ‘The Way’, and we’re happy to host the first watch of the accompanying brand new video.

Flowing with a haunting ethereal splendour, ‘The Way’ is a sweeping, majestic soundscape that builds with tribal beats and the soaring power of Maria Malmoe’s rich vocals. With shades of the other-worldly aura of Bjork, cinematic sounds are accompanied by eerily captivating visuals, resulting in an exquisite, impassioned offering oozing its own unique resplendent grandeur and raw emotion. Of the track, Maria explains:

“The Way is about getting lost in the woods and finding your way through the wild. Ancient voices and tribal drums echo in the deep. You want to run and run without knowing where you͛re headed. There it is, my way – curvy and unknown but mine to follow. I leap off on the first step.”

Directed by videographer Michelle Berg and choreographed by Laura Feline Ebbesen, watch the brand new video for ‘The Way’ here:

‘The Way’ is taken from MALMØ’s recently released debut album We Come From The Stars.

Video Premiere: Lauren Ray – ‘Be A Man’

Following debut album We Will Need Courage in 2016, singer songwriter Lauren Ray has supported big names such as Rebecca Ferguson and Anastacia and has now returned with the announcement of her new EP Inside This Silence.

Taken from the EP, new single ‘Be A Man’ flows with Ray’s silky smooth, soulful vocals and gentle, blues-infused melodies in a tongue-in-cheek take on the common phrase. A truly charming, musically rich slice of alt-pop, it showcases Ray’s beautifully honest songwriting perfectly.

Of the clever accompanying video and meaning behind the song, Ray explains:

The song could just be enjoyed as a fun ‘flirty’ song which is part of its intention… but it’s written somewhat tongue in cheek because I’m using the term ‘Be A Man’ to say ‘you can be vulnerable and say how you feel because I feel it too’. Admitting how you feel to someone requires being brave and vulnerable but is always worth doing… I also think that personality traits and emotions that are labelled as either ‘female’ or ‘male’ can be somewhat ridiculous and limiting, and in some cases destructive, so I wanted to play with this a little bit too for the video.”

Inside This Silence, the upcoming EP from Lauren Ray, is out 3rd August on SR Records. Pre-order here.

VIDEO PREMIERE: Kadija Kamara – ‘Running In The Name Of The Game’

Sun, sea and shimmering sequin trousers, alt-soul artist Kadija Kamara has shared her video for single ‘Running In The Name Of The Game’ and the visuals are as warm and vibrant as the track itself. Taken from her EP Nothing Left To Lose released earlier this year, Kadija’s positivity and strength shine through in her work, and this latest offering is no exception.

Following on from previous single ‘Eyes On You’, Kadija explains the ethos behind the visuals for ‘Running In The Name Of The Game’: “It reflects my reality of playing the game in life/the rat race. I would say that this song is my daily motivation. I listen to it to pick myself up and keep going. I hope others can play this when they need a boost too. It’s really about not giving up”.

To date, Kadija’s accomplishments include winning the MTV Iggy Artist Of The Week poll (voted for by readers) and being awarded funding for her Artist Development Programme by PRS. She’s collaborated with Joey Negro, Zed Bias and sang backing vocals for Zara McFarlane on Later With Jools Holland.

As well as focusing on her own solo career, Kadija curates LADY LIVE events at The Finsbury Pub alongside house promoters Lost In The Manor. The night focuses on showcasing female musical talent. She hosted her first LADY Festival at Pop Brixton in October last year too, proving she’s dedicated to pushing girls to the front when it comes to the underground and commercial music scenes.
