Get In Her Ears Live @ The Finsbury w/ Crumbs, 10.05.19

Following a host of amazing bands playing for us lately, including Mammoth Penguins, ARXX, Wolf Girl, Sit Down and Fightmilk, we were back at The Finsbury on Friday with another dream of a line-up, for a jam-packed night of the best new music from awesome womxn.

Kicking things off is Birmingham born, London-based artist Rookes. Oozing a sparkling, magnetising charisma, she takes full command of the stage, delivering her electro-infused anthemic pop, as the subtle power of her shimmering vocals flows into our ears.

Next up, London duo Sophie Peacock and Natalie Healey – aka Panic Pocket – treat our ears to their twinkling indie-pop. Interspersing each uplifting ditty with charming cat-filled tales, it’s impossible not to be instantly cheered whilst singing along to their infectious, synth-filled melodies and refreshing, tongue-in-cheek wit.

Having not seen third band of the night live before, I was not prepared for just how intoxicatingly powerful Charismatic Megafauna‘s performance would be. Delivering their unique, percussion-filled electro-punk, all-the-while swapping instruments, they blast out empowering, patriarchy-smashing anthems, covering topics from sexual abuse, to diet foods and female ejaculation. Completely breathtaking.

Headliners Crumbs continue to wow the packed-out venue with their fiery post-punk. With funk-fused basslines, scuzzy hooks and impassioned vocals, they ooze a gritty, buoyant power which has the whole crowd buzzing and bouncing with enthused energy.

Massive thanks to the four bands and artists who played for us on Friday; you were all absolutely incredible. It was such a great night filled with amazing live music and the best of vibes! And make sure you don’t miss our next night at The Finsbury on 14th June with headliners CLT DRP.

Track Of The Day: La Lune – ‘Grape Soda’

Brighton based dream-pop artist La Lune has shared her sugary new single ‘Grape Soda’ and its a bitter sweet exploration of “love, lustful addiction, and self-destruction”. She’s also shared a hand-illustrated music video to accompany the track, made by graphic designer and fashion student Eva Kubacka.

La Lune has been writing, producing and releasing music with a DIY ethos since she was 18. Now at 20 years old, she’s beginning to capture the attention of BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6, NME, and Spotify, landing a spot on New Music Friday UK with her recent collaborative release, ‘Heartstop’.

Her refreshing and ambient sounds are reflected in her approach to promoting and sharing her own music too. Masked beneath her pseudonym and with a subtle social media presence, La Lune is using obscurity to protest against the over-sexualisation of women in music, stating that her music should be listened to and judged at “face value”.

With songs as catchy as ‘Grape Soda’ and mesmerising visuals to match, we’re sure La Lune’s approach to music will be respected for what it is: pure and well produced. Watch the video for her new single below and follow La Lune on Facebook for more updates.

La Lune UK Live Dates 2019
June 10th – Komedia, Brighton
August 11th – Boardmasters Festival
August 18th – Twisted Village Festival
(More to be announced soon)

WATCH: Thallo – ‘I dy Boced’

Gentle, soothing sounds and startling visuals come together on ‘I Dy Boced’, the latest release from Welsh artist Thallo. Premiered on Welsh blog Y.Selar last week, the songwriter’s talent for creating sounds that are easy on the ear shines through on her new single.

Roughly translated as ‘In Your Pocket’, Thallo’s new song is a fusion of archaic lore and personal experience, mixing elements of jazz, folk and electronica. Accompanied by a six-piece band and their celestial instrumentation, Thallo sings her pretty lyrics in both the Welsh and English language.

“Described as “a paradoxically bittersweet rose-tinted fantasy” ‘I Dy Boced’ is an intriguing release from an intriguing newcomer. Watch the video for the single below, and follow Thallo on Facebook for more updates.
