Get In Her Ears @ Notting Hill Arts Club w/ ANNAVR 22.06.19

The sun was shining bright yesterday, but that didn’t deter us from venturing in to the basement of Notting Hill Arts Club to uncover the hypnotic electronica of three very different artists: ANNAVR, Zoey Lily & Death Hags.

The task of opening the night fell to LA based artist Death Hags, who delivered her dark, opulent, sci-fi inspired sounds beneath flickering stage lights. Her understated but confident delivery meant the obscurities of tracks such as ‘Oublie Moi’ and ‘Electrochemical Communication’ could be fully appreciated by listeners as she performed her one woman show.

Zoey Lily took to the stage next to perform her melancholy pop sounds. The London-based newcomer charmed listeners with her soft, elegant vocals and impressed them with renditions of her singles ‘I Wish I Had A Heart’ and ‘Hate You’. She looked especially pleased when the crowd participated in singing along to one of her tracks too.

Headlining the night and performing for her first time in London, Berlin-based producer ANNAVR melted us with her luscious electronic soundscapes. Originally a classically trained pianist, ANNAVR’s skills have transcend the pop barrier and have blossomed in to a mix of uplifting and distracting sounds. Between songs she spoke about how she relied on music whilst growing up in Berlin to express herself and to take her to new places, and we were proud to give her a platform to share her sounds and her stories.

Huge thanks to the bands, sound engineer and the staff at Notting Hill Arts Club for your help. Keep your eyes peeled for more gig announcements from us soon!

Track Of The Day: Zoey Lily – ‘I Wish I Had A Heart’

Following the release of last year’s 2thousand&8teen collection, London based alt-pop artist, and personal fave, Zoey Lily releases her latest single ‘I Wish I Had A Heart’.

Zoey explains that the track is about “feeling stuck in your own skin and being unable to deal with the outside world and everything that is expected from you in society, so you’d rather hide away and basically stop living so no one can judge you anymore.

The single is out now and we’ve got two tickets to give away for Zoey’s headline show at The Waiting Room on April 25th – to be in with a chance to win tweet us your favourite heart emoji and the word WIN to @getinherears.

Written and arranged by Zoey, and co-produced by Grace Carter’s drummer Toby Horton and mixed by James Kenosha.

Listen to ‘I Wish I Had A Heart’ below.

Track Of The Day: Zoey Lily (feat. Indigo Svn) – ‘Not There’

I’ve been a strong fan of Zoey Lily and everything she’s put out from the moment she popped into our inbox in 2015. Her music always delivers with its electro beats, catchy melodies and Zoey’s distinctive vocals. ‘Not There’ feat. Indigo Svn is no different. With her last single ‘Last Goodbye’ only released last month, she’s back already with her next release. And if there all as good as this… Then keep ’em coming Zoey!

‘Not There’ features American rapper Indigo Svn – him and Zoey were first brought together when she attended one of his shows in North London. The track defies the physical odds of living on the other side of the planet by recording the track within a day and Indigo SVN sending his contributions from his Brooklyn bedroom studio all the way over to the UK. Of the track Indigo SVN says, “In my eyes the project was the dominos falling in the most seamless way. I was in a great reflective mode when the song was brought to my ears and it was the therapy I needed, she helped me step out of my box a bit more too which is alway great when bringing new music to the people.”

I’m continually entranced by Zoey Lily’s hushed and at times haunting vocals and, combined with Indigo SVN on this track, I think it makes for a perfect union.
