A beguiling request to escape unwanted memories, Queen Kwong has shared her latest single ‘Raptures’. Filled with slow-burning bass lines and mesmeric vocals, Queen Kwong (aka Carré Callaway) shows how her “cursed mind” is still as sharp as ever on this brilliant new track.
Queen Kwong’s personal and professional experiences informed her 2015 debut album Get A Witness, and her most recent LP Love Me To Death. The multi-instrumentalist has been vocal about her mental health, the vicious industry misogyny she’s experienced, and more reassuringly: her path to self-discovery and casual nihilism.
Callaway landed on the music scene after a chance meeting with Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. At 17, she was enlisted as a support act on the band’s 2005 ‘With Teeth’ tour, performing as a solo artist under her real name, then again as Queen Kwong on the band’s ‘Wave Goodbye’ outing. She recently supported the band in Las Vegas over three consecutive dates too.
Fierce in name and nature, her recent diagnosis with Cystic Fibrosis – a rare genetic disorder that affects the lungs – hasn’t set her back. She’ll be joining the inimitable Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on tour this year.
