Track Of The Day: Blonde Maze & Attom – ‘Anywhere’

Having been addicted to everything that New York artist Blonde Maze has created for the last few years, I was excited to hear that she’s now released another utterly blissful creation for me to lose myself in; this time in collaboration with Attom.

A perfect love song, ‘Anywhere’ is filled with a twinkling majestic splendour, oozing a soaring, shimmering soundscape and glitchy beats alongside the delicate, emotion-strewn power of Blonde Maze’s heartfelt vocals. Sparkling with a gentle sense of romanticism, it’s another captivating slice of alt-pop from one of my favourite artists. A truly beautiful offering that will give you goosebumps on first listen, with its luscious, ethereal haze. Of the track, Blonde Maze explains:

“It encompasses the euphoric feeling of being in love and the willingness to go lengths for someone even when you are struggling yourself. It portrays dreamy, upbeat, yet longing vibes, something we’ve both felt a mix of in our lives and know people can relate.”

LISTEN: Martha – ‘Into This’

The big time has been beckoning for the pride of Pity Me, Co. Durham for a while now. Martha‘s records get better with every new release, and the recently-issued title track from their upcoming Love Keeps Kicking album was an instant classic, full of killer hooks and a cheery melody that belied the underlying sadness in its words.

Latest single ‘Into This’ showcases the lush vocals of Martha Naomi Griffin perfectly, who warmly sings the witty and ever-so-slightly melancholy lyrics in her own accent. Those plaintive vocals anchor this super musical performance, with its simple but massive chorus that you’ll find yourself singing along to in the bath, down the tube or a thousand other inconvenient places…

…‘Into This’? Speaking personally, yes indeed. You should be, too. Hopefully with the LP coming next month there’ll be some sort of tour to get Martha in everybody’s ears pretty soon, pretty please.

WATCH: Gurr – ‘She Says’

A hazy ode to being on the road and ricocheting between emotions; Gurr have shared visuals to accompany their new track ‘She Says’. Taken from their new EP of the same name which is set for release on 5th April, the Berlin duo blend dream-pop and psych sensibilities on their new tune.

They’ll be releasing four videos from the EP, and ‘She Says’ is the first from the collection. Speaking about the footage, Laura Lee explains: “We collected all this footage during our our summer of festivals last year. It was a bit of a schizophrenic time as we were always going back and forth between these positive festival vibes to the quietness and reality of home. That is what we were going for in the video”

She Says was recorded with New York producer Mathew Molner (Sunflower Bean, Friends) and Berlin based producer Tobi Kuhn at the UFO studios in Berlin. Track Of The Day: Indian Queens – ‘You Came Over Late’

A disorientating lullaby for uneasy minds in the city; Indian Queens‘ new track ‘You Came Over Late’ is a charming blur of lusting vocals and atmospheric guitar riffs. Released via Cool Thing Records, the Hackney trio have managed to create another genre-bending fusion of psych, chillwave and indie sound designed to hypnotise their listeners.

Inspired partially by the film Suffragette – “I’d rather be a rebel than a slave” – lead singer and guitarist Jennifer O’neill crafted more than just the melodies on ‘You Came Over Late. Along with her band mates Katherine O’Neill (bass) and Matt Bick-Dudan (drums), she engineered and produced the song, as well as designing the artwork for the single too.

After their knockout set at Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival in June 2018, Indian Queens have gone on to release an EP and play a headline set in London. We’re big fans of their new single, and we’re certain that 2019 is going to be equally as a big a year for this talented trio.
