WATCH: ZAND – ‘Slut Money’

A savage pop tune that celebrates self-autonomy and body positivity, ZAND has shared a new video for their latest single ‘Slut Money’. The self-described “ugly pop” star is taking aim at slut shamers on their new track, knocking down the haters with their gritty beats, sweet vocals and candid rap verses.

“While it’s a tongue-in-cheek bop, I wrote it as a liberating bite back at whorephobes,” ZAND explains about the new single. “[It’s] an ode to the community, as well as it being empowering for anyone who’s been judged for demonstrating their right to bodily autonomy and sexual liberation.” The Blackpool-born producer delivers these thoughts via unapologetic lyrics and dense beats on ‘Slut Money’.

“Why you complaining when it’s not your body?” ZAND repeatedly asks, reiterating the problem that patriarchal society has with judging the bodies of women and non-binary people. ZAND rightfully celebrates using your body in whatever way you want to, and unapologetically tells those who find it offensive exactly where to go. Track Of The Day: Kynsy – ‘Happiness Isn’t A Fixed State’

Through jagged guitar riffs and succinct lyricism, Dublin-based artist Kynsy offers a fresh perspective on a breakup on latest single ‘Happiness Isn’t A Fixed State’. Balancing a painful reality with a buoyant optimism, the multi-instrumentalist navigates the push and pull between the head and heart, post-relationship.

“It’s about accepting the fact that sometimes you have to laugh the pain away, or look at negativity head on in order to feel positive emotions and have positive thoughts again,” explains Kynsy (aka Ciara Lindsey). “It’s a tug of war between the positive and negative thought processes that occur when a relationship ends.” Kynsy tackled writing and co-production duties head on with this single, enlisting the help of mixer Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Sorry, Parquet Courts) to add a sheen to her edgy sound.

The track is also accompanied by a self-directed video, shot in Dublin by Tim Shearwood featuring Kynsy and her friends. “[The visuals] needed to be fun and playful but with moments of emotional vulnerability in there too,” Kynsy explains. “A sort of ying and yang of simple fun against complex emotions.”

Big Joanie sign to Kill Rock Stars & release 7″ single with Charmpit

Get In Her Ears are thrilled to share the news that Big Joanie have signed to iconic US riot grrrl label Kill Rock Stars! To mark the occasion, the trio will be releasing a 7″ split single with fellow feminist punks Charmpit titled Kluster Room Sessions, set for release on 27th November. Having both formed at First Timers Fest, Big Joanie and Charmpit have garnered a loyal and passionate following on the DIY underground scenes here in the UK. With this joint release on Kill Rock Stars, their punk infused sounds will be reaching wider, equally as passionate audiences in the US and beyond.

Kluster Room Sessions features an early recording of Big Joanie’s track ‘Cut Your Hair’ on the A side, and Charmpit’s single ‘Bad Attitude’ on the B side. “We leapt at the chance to do a split EP with Big Joanie because we love them,” explained Charmpit’s guitarist & vocalist Rhianydd YorkWilliams. “We’re so psyched to be working with Kill Rock Stars. They are a cool breeze to work with and we have so much love for what they do.”

After releasing their debut album Sistahs in 2018, Big Joanie are also planning to share their highly anticipated second record via Kill Rock Stars in 2021. “I grew up idolising practically every band on the Kill Rock Stars roster when I was a teenager,” explains Big Joanie’s guitarist & vocalist Stephanie Phillips. “We all have so much admiration for the work Kill Rock Stars has done and their influence on the punk scene. We’re so happy they can join us on this next journey of Big Joanie to help us reach new audiences.” Big Joanie’s 2021 second album will also be released in the UK and Europe via Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz’s label, Daydream Library Series.
