LISTEN: GIRLI vs The Tuts – ‘Mr 10pm Bedtime (Remix)’

London’s GIRLI might be a ‘Hot Mess’, but she sure knows how to organise a cracking collaboration. She’s already worked with the Dream Wife girls who remixed her track ‘Not That Girl’ (and we spotted her dancing on stage at their sold out Scala gig) and now she’s teamed up with The Tuts to release an almighty reversion of ‘Mr 10pm Bedtime’.

The track is taken from her recent 4 track EP, Hot Mess, and The Tuts have hijacked the song and turned it into an up-beat, guitar laden, pop-punk banger. They’ve stayed true to the gutsy nature of the original recording, but it’s extra cool now The Tuts have got involved. Have a listen and see for yourself…

VIDEO PREMIERE: Saint Genevieve – ‘Lies’

In her latest single ‘Lies’, Saint Genevieve chronicles the search for light in darkness after the end of a toxic relationship. Inspired by great artists, both in paint and in music, Saint Genevieve’s music places her emotions on a melodic canvas, combining dominating ​vocals​ ​with​ ​crisp ​production​ ​to​ ​gift​ ​listeners​ ​with​ ​an​ ​audible​ ​artwork.

This movement from light to darkness is represented by the haunting echoes at the beginning of the song, as well as resonant guitar twangs that create an inescapable sense of anxiety, with the sentiment of relief depicted by the sunset at the finale of the ‘Lies’ official video.

Track Of The Day: Queen Zee – ‘Idle Crown’

Hot on the heels of their last single ‘Fly The Pink Flag’, GIHEs favourites Queen Zee have released new track ‘Idle Crown’, and it’s a smartly executed piece of Marilyn Manson-esque garage punk. Released via the band’s own label Sasstone Records, the Liverpool group have yet to record something that we don’t instantly fall in love with.

Blending activism and politics into their fleshy, raucous tunes, ‘Idle Crown’ is another fiery gem in Queen Zee’s crown. Front person Zee explains the inspiration behind the track:”‘Idle Crown’ is essentially a narrative between two characters trapped in a toxic relationship. It’s something everyone can relate too, but what I wanted to do was question heteronormativity using a familiar setting. A theme throughout our album as a whole is society’s wish for LGBTQ+ people to conform to a standard, regardless of the happiness or health of them. Within ‘Idle Crown’, I used two LGBTQ+ characters trapped in a heteronormative relationship to express the pain of being unable to live as your true self”

The band will head back out on the road again with Marmozets in February 2018 to deliver more of their fearless, provocative sounds to the eager crowds who caught them live earlier this year. Together, Queen Zee (vocals/guitar), Jason Taylor Brown (guitar), Frank Wortho (bass), David Bloom (drums) and Courtney Colley (Keys & Vocals) “give so much of a fuck, that they really couldn’t give a single fuck” – and we’re more than happy to follow their example.

LISTEN: Esper Scout – ‘Dividing Marks’

Full of swirling reverb and powerful vocals, Leeds outfit Esper Scout have shared their brand new single ‘Dividing Marks’. Released via Bomb The Twist and Clue Club records, the band are due to share an accompanying video for the track in the next few weeks.

Esper Scout have been busy on the road this year, picking up new followers during a UK tour in support of The Cribs and through radio play from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6Music. They’ll be supporting the band again on December 21st at their sold out residency at The Brudenell in Leeds, alongside GIHEs favourites PINS.

With lyrics inspired by international politics and grassroots concerns, we’re excited to hear more from Esper Scout in the near future.
