LISTEN: Iris Gold – ‘All I Really Know’

We love the defiant up-tempo sound of Danish soul-pop artist Iris Gold‘s latest single ‘All I Really Know’. Recently featured in Afropunk, Complex Magazine, Wonderland and Elle Magazine, it’s clear that Iris’ talent is as strong as the metal she shares her surname with.

By blending retro hp-hop, soul and power pop with a “generous sprinkle of flower power”, Irish Gold has managed to create a funky, uplifting anthem about self belief. Speaking about the new track, Iris explains: When you’ve been dealing with adversity throughout your life, it will either kill you, or make you blossom into a positive person – and I decided very early on in life that I would always be positive, energetic, and a go-getter. ‘All I Really Know’ is my Rocky Balboa/Apollo Creed track. It’s a song about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and trying again, after failing, no matter how many attempts it takes.”

Originally from London and raised in Copenhagen, Iris has lived a nomadic life surrounded by free thinkers growing up in hippy communes and countercultures, which has made her the charismatic artist she is today.

Track Of The Day: Fallulah – ‘Light My Fire’ (The Doors Cover)

We’re partial to a beautiful cover song here at Get In Her Ears, and Denmark artist Fallulah‘s rendition of The Doors’ classic ‘Light My Fire’ has made our knees weak with its sultry vocals and atmospheric keys.

The song is part of an interesting, powerful project called ‘Instant Love’, where both emerging and established female musicians reinterpret classic love songs originally sung by men about women, re-imagined and without changing the gender. Tracks have been revealed on a monthly basis to great appeal in the US which has lead to the album, Instant Love: Volume 1, being announced for release worldwide in January 2018.

Highlights from the project include Erika Spring’s (Au Revoir Simone) version of Donavan classic ‘Colours’ and Nicole Atkins’ re-work of Ryan Adams’ ‘Amy’. The project will be continuing throughout 2018 with new music and releases and we can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

Track Of The Day: Sorry – ‘Wished’

A stirring cacophony of alternative noise, London-based trio Sorry (fka FISH) have shared their latest single ‘Wished’. Formed of Asha Lorenz, Louis O’Bryen, Lincoln Barrett and Campbell Baum, the band have been making a name for themselves on London’s underground circuit since 2015 and their “emotional, hyper-melodic songwriting” has seen them share stages with the likes of Wolf Alice and Dream Wife.

‘Wished’ is the band’s debut studio recording and follows the recent self-release Home Demo(ns) Vol. 1. Recorded by Sean Oakley (Rick Rubin, Frank Ocean) and mixed by Andrew Savours (My Bloody Valentine), the new single is also accompanied by a b-side titled ‘Lies’, which is set to arrive later this month. Both tracks will be packaged together on Sorry’s very first 7” vinyl release on Domino, available to pre-order here.

Sorry will embark on a full U.K. tour supporting South London’s Childhood on November 16th, before ending 2017 with their biggest headline show to date at Corsica Studios in London on December 5th. Check out the video for ‘Wished’ (directed by India Lee) below.

Track Of The Day: Anushka – ‘Mountains’

If you’re looking for something to funk up your Tuesday, Brighton duo Anushka are here to do just that. Together, Max Wheeler and Victoria Port combine elements of soul, house, jazz and hip hop to create a fresh, psychedelic, up-beat sound.

“It’s a song about how we are so often thrown into situations with people and they just aren’t ready to step up and be in the moment,” the band explain. “It’s about personal growth and how we move on from people, how we reconcile and forgive and about how we become our own strength.”

Anushka are preparing to share their new EP, which will feature artwork from artist and fashion designer Ryan Hawaii, in the next few months.
