LISTEN: About Bunny – ‘Special’

A fuzzy, racing guitar tune that smoulders with riotous attitude, London-based four piece About Bunny have shared their debut single ‘Special’. Self-released via Kartel music, the track is full of buzzing bass lines, grungy guitars and sardonic yet sweet vocals, inspired by the likes of Garbage and Blondie.

Formed of Jemma Mckenzie-Brown (vocals), Alex Malseed (bass), Karl Hopkins (guitar) and Luke Coare (drums), About Bunny met in London and bonded over a mutual love of Debbie Harry, dancing and pre-pandemic nights out. The group managed to play their first show earlier this year opening for VUKOVI at their Banquet Records gig, just before the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to live music.

Undeterred by the current state of affairs, About Bunny have shared ‘Special’, providing listeners with all the beats and riffs they need to rock out in the safety of their own homes. It’s the first offering from the band’s upcoming EP which is set for release in 2021, and it’s an exciting glimpse into their punk-infused, intensely catchy sounds.

Track Of The Day: Feral Five – ‘Get A Grip’

Having most recently beguiled our ears with last single ‘EGO’, and with vibrant live shows with Black Grape and Miss Eaves under their belt, long-term faves Feral Five are back with an enticing new single.

A song for when enough is enough, ‘Get A Grip’ doesn’t hold back as it builds in tension, propelled by glitchy throbbing beats, whirring electro-fused hooks and a fierce driving energy. As the soaring Debbie Harry-reminiscent vocals of Kat ooze shades of ’80s pop, these collide with an innovative futuristic musicality and captivating psychedelic allure to create an utterly immersive and impressively unique sonic delight from this forward-thinking duo.

Mastered by Katie Tavini, ‘Get A Grip’ is out 27th November on all platforms.

Track Of The Day: Suzie Stapleton – ‘Yesterday’s Town’

If “delay-laden guitar riffs and dusty vocals” are your thing, then Suzie Stapleton‘s new track ‘Yesterday’s Town’ is going to tick all of your listening boxes. Born in Australia, Stapleton relocated to London in 2015 and has kept a busy recording schedule on various projects between tours and opening for acts such as Mick Harvey, Mark Lanegan and Boss Hog.

Earlier this year, Stapleton appeared on Lydia Lunch & Cypress Grove’s unlikely covers album Under The Covers (Rustblade Records), lending her voice to several of the tracks. This project was spawned via Stapleton’s collaborations with Cypress Grove on The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project (feat. Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Debbie Harry, Thurston Moore).

To celebrate the release of her new single, Suzie has made ‘Yesterday’s Town’ available as a free download for her fans, which can be accessed via www.suziestapleton.com. She will also be playing a London launch show on November 8th at The Old Blue Last, with more dates live dates to be announced shortly.

Until then, listen to ‘Yesterday’s Town’ below and follow Suzie on Facebook for more updates.
