PREMIERE: Mothercanyouhearme – ‘Knowing You’

Following last year’s Mother Nature album, London duo Rosie Krause and Georgia Mancey – aka Mothercanyouhearme – have now announced the release of new EP, People².

Taken from the EP, new single ‘Knowing You’ oozes an uplifting jangly scuzz as a lilting romanticism flows alongside catchy sunny hooks, and a subtle gritty angst. With shades of the likes of Diet Cig or Partner, it’s a glistening slice of emo-tinged indie-pop; a perfect summer accompaniment allowing you to embrace your feelings wholeheartedly and enjoy a cathartic, shimmering sense of relief.

With their new EP People² set for release this summer, Mothercanyouhearme pride themselves on being completely DIY and raising awareness to create a safe space for queer identifying women or allies within the music scene. The EP is self produced by guitarist Rosie, and all artwork has been done by drummer Georgia; and it all comes with an accompanying zine – wonderfully entitled ‘Maga Can You Zine Me’ – celebrating a number of female creatives, which you can find out more about here.

LISTEN: Deaf Surf – ‘Strangers’

“Loneliness is a feeling / not a state of mind” Deaf Surf‘s vocalist Manon frantically repeats on the band’s latest single ‘Strangers’, echoing what many of us are experiencing in a post-lockdown world. Filled with frenzied riffs and crashing percussion, the Brighton-based band tackle feelings of isolation and alienation on their new track.

Recorded & produced by Boe Weaver at Studio Humbug on the Isle of Wight, Deaf Surf have shared their second single to remind listeners that even in a world of Zoom gigs and Instagram Lives, we don’t have to be ‘Strangers’ while the music industry is suffering under the restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic.

The single also touches on Brexit (remember that?) and the desperation that comes with not feeling like you belong anywhere. “It’s all in my head” sings Manon, tapping in to feelings of pure confusion in the face of unexpected adversity.

Bang Bang Romeo to Headline Loud Women Festival in 2021

Today, Loud Women have announced that Doncaster/Sheffield rockers Bang Bang Romeo will be headlining their fifth festival, which is set to take place at 229 London on 20th March 2021. The Loud Women team are promising to turn the volume up even higher next year, as they’ve received a much needed grant from the Arts Council.

Designed to celebrate and support women in the DIY, punk and rock music scenes, the Loud Women Festival has showcased some of our favourite artists, including; Dream Nails, The Menstrual Cramps, ARXX and Petrol Girls. The team received over 500 applications from across the globe from artists wanting to play the forthcoming festival, and there are still more than 20 artists to be announced on the line-up.

Loud Women Founder Cassie Fox says: “The aim of the festival is to show how many incredible womxn-powered bands are out there, as a counter to every other festival, those that struggle to even book 50% female acts. In starting and growing the Loud Women community, I wanted to curate top quality, safe-space gigs that showcased some of the awesome womxn-powered bands in the scene, and to create a community of womxn musicians to support each other. I am super-excited that Bang Bang Romeo are coming to play LOUD WOMEN Fest 5 – they are just explosive live, and Stars is such a driven and inspiring frontwoman with a phenomenal voice. The perfect headliner for a festival celebrating female musical power!”
