WATCH: PRIMO! – ‘Machine’

Melbourne-based PRIMO! tackle work hierarchy issues with wit and elbow grease on their latest single, ‘Machine’. Taken from their second album Sogni, set for release on 17th April via Upset The Rhythm, the track brims with jangly guitars, steady beats and catchy lyrics.

Formed of Suzanne Walker (drums), Violetta Del Conte-Race (guitar), Xanthe Waite (guitar) and new addition Amy Hill (bass), PRIMO!’s talent lies in taking taboo subjects and turning them in to catchy, oddly melodic tunes. They’ve achieved this on ‘Machine’, which Walker explains explains the premise of in detail: “It’s the feeling of being like a machine inside the machine, as well the fact that sometimes great ideas, thoughts & observations come to you during the working day, in unexpected ways. Rhythmically, the pacing is like that of a machine, speeding up and slowing down, at times frantically chugging, spattering vivid bursts of greasy colour, before halting to a stop and slipping the key from the ignition.”

PRIMO!’s start-stop-start style certainly keeps listeners on their toes. There’s a natural edge to their music, but their soft dual vocals provide a well-oiled delivery on ‘Machine’. Watch the accompanying video for the track below, and follow PRIMO! on Spotify and Bandcamp for more updates.

LISTEN: Deaf Surf – ‘SOFA’

Exasperation and frustration fuel ‘SOFA’, the debut single from Brighton-based band Deaf Surf. Released via Slingshot Records, the strung-out, angst-ridden track is an apathetic yawn in the face of those who repeat, or preach their travelling stories to clearly uninterested listeners.

Recorded & produced by Boe Weaver at Studio Humbug on the Isle of Wight, ‘SOFA’ marks the one year anniversary of Deaf Surf’s formation, coming together in 2019 after breaking away from other bands on the Brighton scene. French front woman Manon’s raw vocals glide over the band’s post-punk infused riffs, providing a much needed disruption to the narrative she laments about.

‘SOFA’ is a necessary listen for those who need to drown out unwanted background noise and focus on starting an adventure of their own. Listen to the track below, and follow Deaf Surf on Facebook & Bandcamp for more updates.

LISTEN: Wargirl – ‘Dancing Gold’

A sultry dose of funk, psych, and garage rock; Wargirl’s latest single ‘Dancing Gold’ is a smoldering, soul-infused gem. Released via German-based label Clouds Hill, the track is an exciting teaser of what’s to come from the Californian six-piece over the next year.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, the group explain: “In Costa Rica at sunset, the sky turns a million colors, sometimes the last sunlight is golden and it dances on the evening water and time stands still and you remember that all of life is a crazy miracle. All of us people are magical living beings, some of us get lost along the way, but at our best we are all ‘Dancing Gold’. This is a song to remind us to really live life as it is a gift and not be stuck in negativity.“

Vocalist Samantha Park’s voice projects powerfully over the band’s funk-fused beats, snaking bass lines, and psych-inspired riffs. ‘Dancing Gold’ is full of good vibes, and that’s what the band want to create. Guitarist Matthew Wignall extrapolates on this: “We want to make great, unique, interesting music with messages that are universal and true, encouraging the listener to take a deeper look at this life, to ask questions about what we all accept as normal.”

Wargirl will be touring the UK & Europe in March to celebrate their single release. Check out the video for ‘Dancing Gold’ below, and follow Wargirl on Facebook and Spotify for more updates.

WATCH: The Big Moon – ‘Your Light’

The Big Moon prove they’re as talented on two wheels as they are on two feet in their video for latest track ‘Your Light’. The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album Walking Like We Do, which is set for release on 10th January 2020 via Fiction Records.

With its catchy chorus, buoyant melodies and feel-good lyrics; ‘Your Light’ is the perfect boost for anyone who’s feeling blue about the current state of affairs. The band performed their synchronized cycling in the video in the Essex countryside, and they look at ease singing along to their brand new tune.

Speaking about the track, vocalist and songwriter Juliette Jackson explains: “This song is about freeing yourself from all of it, just for a moment. It’s a thanks to the one person or thing in your life that knows how to come in and open your curtains and light up the darkness and restore your strength so that when you clatter back down into the real world you have the strength to fight your battles, whatever they are.”

We’re thrilled that The Big Moon are back on our radar, lighting up our days with their shiny new indie-pop tunes. Watch the video for ‘Your Light’ below and follow the band on Facebook for more updates.
