Track Of The Day: HAWXX – ‘Deadlands’

Having previously blown us away with their immense live show, rockers HAWXX invite us along on their latest journey where fierce vocals and palpitating bass pull us in close, on their latest single ‘Deadlands’.

Lead singer Anna Papadimitriou emits a fierce tenderness within her vocals, demanding our fullest attention as each lyric carries a commanding urgency. The vulnerability is subtly woven throughout the velvet softness of the backing vocal harmonies. However, this is all soon sliced apart by the razor sharp riffs which create a whirlwind of a chorus.

Of the track, HAWXX explain:

“… when something has consumed you to the point where you feel that you can’t come back from it, Deadlands is where you can take that toxicity…and destroy it!

‘Deadlands’ is the first single taken HAWXX’s upcoming EP, and serves as a stark reminder as to how the band came to be worthy winners of the PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music Award.

LIVE (Photos): Camden Rocks, 02.06.19

Last weekend saw the return of North London’s celebration of all things rawk, Camden Rocks; an annual festival held at various venues across Camden, featuring an array of bands new and old.

Our photographer Jon Mo was lucky enough to head over on Sunday to catch some of our favourites…

Treating The Hawley Arms to their sweeping, dreamy sounds were Indian Queens.

Pals of GIHE and all round awesome people, Tiger Mimic, delivered a special acoustic set for Kick Out The Jams at Rock ‘n’ Roll Rescue.

Riotous duo The Pearl Harts blasted out their seething desert rock at The Monarch.

Having previously wowed us live at The Five Bells, HAWXX delivered their frenzied rock anthems at The Fiddler’s Elbow.

Friends of GIHE, immense rockers The Muffin Heads, blasted out their tremendous raging force at The Dublin Castle.

The Dublin Castle also played host to GIHE faves Bugeye and their unique, sparkling disco-punk power.

LIVE (Photos): Tokyo Taboo @ Camden Fest, 29.11.18

GIHE faves Tokyo Taboo have long been blowing us away with their immense, riotous live performances and seething energy, and so we’re extremely excited that their new single ‘No Pleasure Only Pain’ is out today. Raging with the band’s trademark ferocity as whirring hooks race alongside tremendous beats, it’s the perfect example of the soaring power of front-woman Dolly Daggerz’ vocals.

To celebrate the single’s release, Tokyo Taboo held an immense launch party last night at Fest Camden, along with fellow favourites Thunder On The LeftBugeye, HAWXX and newcomers Bled The Fifth. Our Jon Mo was there to capture all the action…

Get In Her Ears Live @ The Five Bells, 26.10.18

Friday saw our first night at The Five Bells in New Cross, with an immense – and slightly spooky – line-up of Cryptic Street, HAWXX, Worst Place and Panic Pocket.

First up, we’re treated to luscious indie-pop ditties of duo Panic Pocket.

Next, GIHE faves Worst Place deliver the dreamiest of sets as they launch their new double A side ‘Square Eyes’/’Soak’.

Penultimate band of the night HAWXX blow us all away with their frenzied rock anthems.

All the way from Malta, headliners Cryptic Street blast out their utterly immense, riot grrrl infused sounds, wowing us with their ferocious energy.

Huge thanks to all the bands who played for us on Friday. Our next gig is back at The Finsbury with headliners Sit Down on 9th November.
