NEW TRACK: Piss Kitti – ‘Leather Forever’

Combining a healthy dose of cynicism and optimism in the same existential breath, Liverpool garage punks PISS KITTI have shared their bittersweet new single ‘Leather Forever’. Released via Venn Records (Gallows, Witch Fever, Bob Vylan, Meryl Streek) and accompanied by second track ‘I’m Jammed’, the AA single celebrates the feeling of breaking through a negative thought cycle and trying to find joy amidst the darkness and chaos of life.

Formed of Esme Brown (vocals), Clara Cicely (bass/backing vocals), Harry Jones (guitar) and Daniel Melia (drums), PISS KITTI strive to defy the monotony of everyday existence with their garage punk anthems. Born from Esme & Clara’s initial desire for better inclusivity and representation for queer people within the UK music scene and beyond, the band vent their frustrations through their music, sharing a similar ethos with Dream Wife and Amyl and the Sniffers, who they have supported on past tours. With ‘Leather Forever’ PISS KITTI push through their frustrations once more. “I don’t wanna die, I wanna live forever / if it all goes wrong, just bury me in leather” sings Esme in the track’s chant-worthy chorus, offering listeners a mantra for testing moments.

“‘Leather Forever’ is about the feeling of being in a dark place worrying about other people and feeling lost within yourself,” the band comment about their new single. “[It’s about] not wanting to be here anymore, but then a switch flicks and you realise everything is okay, noticing beauty in all the things that you never stopped and took the time to appreciate. That feeling when it’s been dark and rainy for a whole week, then you wake up one morning and the sun is beaming through your window and you can feel the heat and you get comfort from it.”

“‘I’m Jammed’ is about the times you get yourself stuck in a situation with someone you care about so much, but they aren’t being open and honest with you,” they continue. “You want them to open up to you but they keep doing things that let you down. You can’t stop forgiving them for their actions because you believe eventually they’ll see their mistakes and everything will be okay.”

PISS KITTI will be hitting the road throughout March and April, on a mix of UK headline dates, support slots with Grandma’s House and Bruise Control, and an appearance at Manchester Punk Festival.

LISTEN: GIHE on Soho Radio with Fraulein (06.03.23)

Tash and Kate were back on Soho Radio’s airwaves playing loads of new music from some of their favourite female, non-binary and LGBTQIA+ artists! Mari offered some of her “musical musings” too. The pair enthused about the eclectic mix of tracks on the playlist, including 1000 Beasts, Grandmas House, Alewya, Hannu Hu, LibraLibra, Nyokabi Kariũki and more.

They were also joined in the studio by Joni and Karsten aka grunge duo Fraulein. The London-based band spoke about the inspiration behind their recent single ‘Pet’ and chatted about the making of the accompanying video, shot by Lily Doidge. Joni also spoke about leading the guitar workshop for this year’s edition of First Timers Fest, and Tash and Kate validated Karsten’s continued admiration for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Music Production For Women Announce New Scholarship Schemes For 2023!

Innovative educators Music Production for Women (MPW) are offering four scholarship places for female or non-binary individuals to take part in their upcoming year-long Master Your Music program! The Distrokid, Yamaha Music Australia, Veva Collect and MPW supported scholarships will allow the recipients to access weekly masterclasses in music production, mixing, music marketing, sound design and many more topics.

“I’m so excited about the impact that this program had on our student’s lives last year, which was the first year we launched it,” Melbourne-based MPW Founder Xylo Aria explains. “Most importantly, the confidence in our students, gained through the realisation of producing their own music when previously it was barely within the realm of possibility, has been an absolute pleasure to witness.”

Masterclasses will be taught by experts in their field, including UK-based producer Ramera Abraham, who has worked with artists including Adele, Stormzy and Little Mix, and US-based artist & producer Lillian Frances, who has shared a stage with artists such as Sylvan Esso and Shakey Graves. In addition to the masterclass access, students will also receive monthly group mentoring sessions to help them achieve their music goal for the year, access to a supportive and safe community, and loads more with the total value of the program exceeding $9,000.

Requirements & How To Apply

To participate in the remotely delivered program, you will need access to a laptop, headphones and a copy of Ableton. Ableton Live Intro will be provided to the scholarship winner, with the option to upgrade this with a special discount.

Music Production For Women is an organisation that began three and a half years ago, and has since been included on the Top 50 Innovators of East London list in 2020 and earned founder Xylo Aria a place on the She Said So Alt Power List. It has run workshops and courses to over 6,000 musicians from over 120 countries and continues to grow steadily.

The organisation was created with the aim of empowering women in music technology and prides itself on not only providing practical and actionable educational content, but also on harbouring a safe and encouraging space to learn in.
