LISTEN: GIHE on Soho Radio with Fraulein (06.03.23)

Tash and Kate were back on Soho Radio’s airwaves playing loads of new music from some of their favourite female, non-binary and LGBTQIA+ artists! Mari offered some of her “musical musings” too. The pair enthused about the eclectic mix of tracks on the playlist, including 1000 Beasts, Grandmas House, Alewya, Hannu Hu, LibraLibra, Nyokabi Kariũki and more.

They were also joined in the studio by Joni and Karsten aka grunge duo Fraulein. The London-based band spoke about the inspiration behind their recent single ‘Pet’ and chatted about the making of the accompanying video, shot by Lily Doidge. Joni also spoke about leading the guitar workshop for this year’s edition of First Timers Fest, and Tash and Kate validated Karsten’s continued admiration for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The pair enthused about the eclectic mix of tracks on the playlist, including Circe, Ritual Forms, ALT BLK ERA and Spring & I.

They were also joined in the studio by Charlie and Mel from First Timers Fest. The London-based DIY community of musicians and activists believe that having access to creating and playing music should not be a privilege, it should be a joyful and social experience that empowers everyone. Charlie and Mel elaborated on this ethos, and shared details of the upcoming workshops and gigs that First Timers are hosting this year. Tash and Kate were back on Soho Radio’s main channel for the first time this year, playing some of their favourite new music by female, non-binary and LGBTQ+ artists! They enthused about the eclectic playlist, their love for DIY punks Big Joanie who are headlining The Garage this Wednesday (11th Jan), and Kate finally listened to one of Tash’s many music recommendations – Sevdaliza.

The pair also spoke about some of their ‘Ones To Watch’ for 2023 and the artists they are most looking forward to catching live, including Alien Chicks, CIRCE, NYX, BLAB and ME REX, who will be headlining our next Get In Her Ears gig at The Shacklewell Arms on 10th February. Tash was back on Soho Radio’s airwaves playing loads of new music from an eclectic mix of female, non-binary and LGBTQIA+ artists, with tracks picked by fellow GIHE pals Kate and Mari too.

Co-host India Latham also joined Tash live in the studio to discuss the recent gigs of Okay Kaya, Julia Jacklin, Tempers, Curses and Double Helix. India also revealed that the first album she bought was by Ronan Keating, and that she used to co-host Brighton Hospital’s radio show back in the day – life truly is a rollercoaster, just gotta ride it.

Tash spoke to new music artist DEWEY about the inspiration behind their recent release ‘Another Woman’, accepting and processing emotional and physical pain, as well as conversations about the power of electricity, pylons and connection within their music.
