PLAYLIST: September 2025

The Get In Her Ears team have put together another eclectic mix of indie and alt-folk gems, reverb-drenched guitar tunes, electronic musings & intriguing experimental sounds for your listening pleasure. Take some time to scroll through our recommendations below!

In order to best support the female, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary artists that we love here at GIHE, we are moving away from using Spotify as our main playlisting platform, so we have included YouTube and/or bandcamp links for all of the tracks on this playlist. You can still access our GIHE profile on Spotify (which we do not have a paid subscription for) but we are in the process of choosing a different platform to share new music with you.

Queen Of Nothing – ‘Hell Is A Lonely Place’
Despite its gloomy namesake, this track from London-based musician Abi Crisp aka Queen Of Nothing is actually an “anthem for queer joy.” It’s the first single from her upcoming EP, All the Love That’s Left, and it’s full of her yearning vocals, reverb-heavy guitar and emotive lyricism. “I wanted to write a song that felt both hopeful and defiant for anyone who might relate to it,” Abi comments about the context of ‘Hell Is A Lonely Place’. “Even in those moments of joy and self-acceptance, it can be so hard to let go of the negative emotions we grow used to.” This tenacity is reflected in the track’s striking volume shifts and gritty-but-buoyant guitar riffs. TTSSFU – ‘forever’
Taken from her recent EP, Blown, this is the latest single from Manchester-based artist Tasmin Stephens aka TTSSFU. ‘forever’ is a nostalgic reflection on a lifelong friendship, full of her lush vocals and dreamy, shoegaze-inspired guitar sounds. (KC)

Whitelands – ‘Glance’
GIHE favourites Whitelands are back with new music and the the announcement of their second album! Sunlight Echoes is set for release on 30th January 2026 via Sonic Cathedral, and ‘Glance’ is the first offering from the new record. It shimmers with the shoegaze band’s trademark sensitivity, but also showcases a refreshing new dynamic to their songwriting. ‘Glance’ was written after vocalist and guitarist Etienne overcame a period of writers block. “I wasn’t really catching my stride with songs and I called up Neil Halstead [of Slowdive] for advice,” he explains. “When I next saw him he asked if I had solved it and I told him yes, as I’d had my heart broken. He laughed and was like, ‘Yeah, that’ll do it’.” This experience is mirrored in the accompanying video for ‘Glance’ which features British film stars David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Alien: Romulus, Rye Lane, Industry) and Honor Swinton Byrne (The Souvenir, I Am Love) – as well as Estella from Big Joanie! Needy Pet – ‘Mental Health’
Self described Irish ‘glam-punk’ band Needy Pet have been building a reputation over the last few months for their high-energy live shows, and are now ready to blast into your ears with their stomping debut single. A raging reflection on the state of Irish mental health services, ‘Mental Health’ showcases Needy Pet’s ability to create catchy ‘70s inspired anthems with a fresh, socially conscious drive. LOBSTERBOMB – ‘Falling’
Another month, another banger from Berlin−based post−punk outfit LOBSTERBOMB. The band say that this track ‘Falling’ is “about looking instead of running away, about accepting instead of holding on; and about welcoming the new version of yourself, even if it hurts at first.” (KC)

Maria Iskariot – ‘Witte Rook’
First catching our attention earlier this year with seething single ‘Leugenaar’, Dutch band Maria Iskariot have now announced that their debut album will be out in the world next month. And, ahead of the album’s release, they have shared another slice of raw, no-frills punk in new single ‘Witte Rook’ (white smoke). Fizzing with a wonky, distorted allure as the immense gritty passion of front person Helena Cazaerck’s vocals rage throughout, the band describe the track as “…a victory for losers, an attempt at forgiveness, swallowing, biting in your own lip and saliva that tastes like iron.” Wereldwaan, the upcoming debut album from Maria Iskariot, is set for release on 31st October. Softcult – ‘16/25’
I was so excited to hear the news that Ontario sibling duo Softcult have finished their debut album! When A Flower Doesn’t Grow is set for release on 30th January 2026 via Easy Life Records, and ’16/25′ is the first offering from the LP. The track offers a scathing commentary on the predatory behaviour of older men who groom younger women, which the band deliver through spiralling riffs, piston-like percussion and haunting vocals. As vocalist and guitarist Mercedes Arn-Horn explained to me when I interviewed her back in 2024, this new album will mark another evolution in Softcult’s sound, something which is immediate and obvious on this new track. Mannequin Flowers – ‘Six Words’
Cascading with fuzzy hooks and lush crystalline vocals, ‘Six Words’ is the latest single from upcoming London band Mannequin Flowers. A dreamy soundscape powered by raw emotion and gritty energy, it offers a soaring insight into what this new band are able to create; of the track, the band explain that “it captures the ache of loving a vision that can never be real”. Shimmering with shades of Cocteau Twins, it marks Mannequin Flowers out as definite ones to keep your ears and eyes peeled for over the next few months. (ML)

Better Joy – ‘Steamroller’
A defiant anthem about reclaiming strength in the face of loss, ‘Steamroller’ is the new single from Manchester-based Bria Keely, aka Better Joy. Whirring with fuzzy hooks as Keely’s sugar-sweet vocals flow with a sparkling emotion, it offers a catchy taste of her upcoming new EP, at dusk, set for release on 31st October. (ML)

Larlin – ‘Limbo’
‘Limbo’ is the third single from alt-rock Brighton trio Larlin. Fronted by Maryann, the band create cathartic, driving anthems influenced by the sounds of Wolf Alice and Nieve Ella. This track is about the frustration of being stuck inside a doomed relationship that you’re not quite ready to let go of, which is reflected through brooding riffs and Maryann’s yearning vocals. Lusa Morena – ‘You Don’t Keep Away’
Having previously been blown away by the swirling immersive energy of Portuguese, London-based band Lusa Morena when they played for us live a couple of years back, I was excited to hear of their revived iteration as a theatrical rock duo. With debut single ‘You Don’t Keep Away’, they reflect on the all-too-common experiences of being made to feel uncomfortable by men with a fiery impassioned spirit and playful tongue-in-cheek wit. Read The Room – ‘Phoenix’
A fierce collision of different musical influences delivered with a fresh, rousing energy, ‘Phoenix’ is the high-octane new single from Norwich rockers Read The Room. It offers an impassioned reflection on our ability to overcome trauma and rise, ‘like a phoenix’, from the ashes. (ML)

Mia Joan – ‘Us’
The latest single from London-based artist Mia Joan, ‘Us’ offers a poignant reflection on love, an earnest dedication to “the one person who loves every part of you, even when you feel you’re being held back by all of your past selves.” Flowing with lilting melodies alongside the deep resonant emotion of Joan’s vocal, I just love its shimmering heartfelt grace. Marine Store Dealer – ‘Speed Back To Me’
Originally from Nottingham and Istanbul respectively, London-based Marine Store Dealer create shimmering folk-tinged soundscapes, interweaving dreamy layers of instrumentation. Set to release their second album, When We Swim Outside In The Floods In The Streets, later this Autumn, their new single ‘Speed Back To Me’ is out now. (ML)

Automatic – ‘Black Box’
The latest single from dark-pop trio Automatic, ‘Black Box’ oozes a sweeping majestic groove as fuzzy beats propel the track forwards. As sultry hypnotic vocals flow throughout, it offers an infectious synth-driven anthem. Of the track, the band explain: “It’s a pretty straightforward critique of people that have sold out on a large scale, specifically within creative industries…” Is It Now?, the new album from Automatic, is out now. (ML)

Tusks – ‘Cold Storm’ (TAAHLIAH Remix)
Tash and I have been loving the remixes that London-based electronic songwriter and producer Tusks has been sharing recently, and this collaboration with Scotland-based artist & DJ TAAHLIAH is no exception! It’s lifted from her new EP, Gold – The Remixes, which is out tomorrow (1st October) via One Little Independent Records. (KC)

Noé Solange – ‘Home’
This atmospheric, soothing soundscape comes from London-based, Dutch-Indonesian producer Noé Solange. ‘Home’ is the second single from her upcoming EP, Moments, set for release on 13th October via Anjunachill. “It captures the complexities of holding onto the past, searching for a sense of belonging and letting go,” Noé explains about the tracks that form her new record; all reflected in her blend of ambient synths, gentle vocals and lilting beats. Donna Thompson – ‘What Is It?’
Set to release a new EP in November, London-based Donna Thompson fuses together elements of hip-hop, folk and indie with a soulful impassioned grace. Of new single ‘What Is It?’, she explains: “I’ve been thinking about the deconstruction of traditional ideas on how my role as a female in a cis relationship has predefined expectations that often don’t align with what loving someone feels like. I can still love you if I don’t wanna wash your underwear.” What In The World, the new EP from Donna Thompson, is out on 21st November via Prah Recordings. (ML)

Flock Of Dimes – ‘Defeat’
A beautiful reflection on personal growth, ‘Defeat’ is the latest single from Flock Of Dimes, the new project of Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Bon Iver). Combining rippling hooks with a sweeping shimmering emotion, it offers a heartfelt first taste of her upcoming album, The Life You Save, out on 10th October via Sub Pop. Of the track, she explains: “It represents a moment of total surrender. It’s about the moment I finally allowed myself to accept my own powerlessness…” (ML)

Stella Donnelly – ‘Feel It Change’
This is the latest single from Australian songwriter Stella Donnelly, inspired by her ruminations on an inevitably doomed relationship. It’s lifted from her upcoming new album, Love and Fortune, which is set for release on 7th November via Brace Yourself Records (UK & Europe) and Dot Dash Recordings (globally). Stella’s new record is a reflection on a time of profound change and growth, which shines through in her considered instrumentation and candid-yet-poetic lyricism. (KC)

Josienne Clarke – ‘In The Dark Of The Night’
Described as “a hug in song form, a held hand through an anxious night,” this tender offering from songwriter and guitarist Josienne Clarke is exactly that. Lifted from her upcoming album, Far From Nowhere, which she will release via her own label (Corduroy Punk) on 17th October, ‘In The Dark Of The Night’ is a dreamy offering designed to lull listeners into reassurance, which Josienne achieves through her acoustic guitar and soothing vocals. Her upcoming album will be accompanied by a short film titled Deluded, directed by Alec Bowman Clarke, which offers a behind-the-scenes peek into the album’s creation. Currently screening at festivals, the film will be shown throughout Josienne’s UK tour this October. (KC)

Brain Leak – ‘Moon Eyes’
Following the gloriously hazy allure of debut ‘Trying’, Manchester based Brain Leak are back with their “Lana moment’ in the form of sparkling single ‘Moon Eyes’. As the delicate celestial vocals of Tara-Gabriella Engelhardt (Adjustments) ripple with a stripped-back emotion alongside glistening keys, it showcases a more vulnerable side to the songwriter; a beautifully introspective ode to personal growth. Tara-Gabriella explains more: “Sometimes relationships evolve in completely unforeseen ways, and that can be scary if you’re a sensitive person like I am who struggles with change. This song is me coming to terms with that change.” Brain Leak also features Sidonie Hand-Halford (The Orielles), Jess Branney (Peaness, BC Camplight) and Giulia Bonometti (Working Men’s Club). (ML)

Snakeskin – ‘October Sun’
Beirut-based duo Fadi Tabbal and Julia Sabra aka Snakeskin are new to me, but I’m captivated by their haunting electronica. This track ‘October Sun’ is taken from their upcoming third album, We live in sand, which is due on 10th October as a co-release between Ruptured and Beacon Sound. Penned as the war in Gaza spread to Lebanon, the LP has been described as their “starkest and most immediate work to date,” blending industrial and ambient elements to reflect the unpredictable and harsh realities of the world around them. Jouska – ‘Season Of Dread’
Norwegian artist Jouska said she penned this track when she felt like she was “stuck inside a winter that wouldn’t end – both emotionally and physically.” It’s taken from her upcoming album, How Did I Wind Up Here?, set for release on 17th October. I admire the way Jouska moves through heavy emotions with impressive grace here. (KC)

Lōwli – What’s It All For?
I’ve mentioned (multiple) times before that Irish musician and composer Lōwli is one of my favourite new music discoveries this year, and I’m really looking forward to hearing her debut album, Window In The Woods, in full – which is due on 24th October via VETA Records. This latest single ‘What’s it all for?’ is laced with her trademark melancholic keys, yearning vocals and poetic lyrics. (KC)

Blue Loop – ‘Luxury Chords’
London-based electronic producer Emma Hall aka Blue Loop describes ’Luxury Chords’ as “a woozy, love-soaked ballad” that she wrote for her partner during the bleakest days of her own chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, which she is now in remission from. It’s lifted from her upcoming album, Cycles, which is set for release on 7th November. The track is inspired by the simultaneous coexistence of love, grief and suffering; a poignant sentiment that I think lots of people will be able to relate to. (KC)

Klein – ‘rich dad poor dad’
I’m so glad I unearthed this experimental gem from UK rapper Klein in my GIHE inbox. ‘rich dad poor dad’ is taken from her upcoming record, sleep with a cane, due on 1st October, which is described as a UK rap record “in the form of an ambient folklore mixtape.” I really love her hypnotic layering of sounds and I’m looking forward to listening to the record in full. ‘rich dad poor dad’ is also accompanied by a self-directed music video, which features Klein in different locations in South London, including the iconic Windrush Square in Brixton. Hilary Woods – ‘Endgames’
I’ve been a fan of Irish artist Hilary Woods for some time, so I was pleased to see that she’ll be releasing her new album, Night CRIÚ, on 31st October via Sacred Bones (one of my favourite record labels.) Retaining her experimental spirit, but also seeing her return to a more song-based structure, the album is centered around Hilary’s vocals which act as threads of connection to the past and the present. This track ‘Endgames’ is the first hint at what’s to come; a dynamic, shape-shifting soundscape that stirs the senses. (KC)

Jessica Moss – ‘until all are free’
As a core member of the Montréal chapter of Musicians For Palestine, violinist and composer Jessica Moss felt compelled to write her new solo record to keep people’s eyes and ears fixed on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Her meditative LP, Unfolding, due on 24th October via Constellation, is divided into four parts titled; “no one / no where / no one is free / until all are free” and this track ‘until all are free’ is the poignant closing composition. Unfolding is dedicated to “a free Palestine in our lifetime.” (KC)

Agnes Haus – ‘Persona’
Described as “a hallucinatory polyphonic study of external perceptions of what it means to live in a perpetual liminal state,” I am deeply intrigued by Brighton-based non-binary artist Agnes Haus’ new work. This track ‘Persona’ is lifted from their upcoming album, Inexorable Ascent, set for release on 7th November via Nite Hive, and forms part of a collection of drone-based modular synthesiser sounds composed solely between the hours of midnight and 4am. Agnes locked themselves in their attic studio every night for two weeks in order to work in this way. “I watched granular Bergman and Tarkovsky films in the background while I crudely experimented on my small modular synthesiser,” they explain. “I had been feeling like a pariah at the time by shunning binary systems on all levels, from politics to everyday life, which had become suffocating in the online world. I kind of anaesthetised myself in the late-night hours, focusing on the subtleties of the quiet particulars of sound – the details of the infinite intonations in between.” Watch the self-directed video for ‘Persona’ below. We know our May playlist is a little delayed…(we were at The Great Escape Festival hosting our showcase on The Beach Soundwaves Stage!) but it’s still stacked full of new music from some of our favourite female, LGBTQ+ and non-binary artists.

We’ve put together another eclectic mix of indie musings, alt-folk tunes, punk bangers, immersive electronic sounds and some grunge & shoegaze anthems for your listening pleasure. Jasmine.4.t – ‘Elephant’
I’ve made no secret of my love of Jasmine.4.t over the last year or so, and it was so wonderful to see her live for the second time, playing an exquisite set to a sold out Lexington last week. Following the success of her debut album, You Are The Morning, a jam-packed UK tour and a tour supporting Lucy Dacus across the US, the Manchester-based artist has now shared a special acoustic EP to raise money for AKT, a charity supporting young LGBTQIA+ people through housing emergencies.

Having been homeless and sleeping on the floors and sofas of queer friends herself when she wrote her album, it’s an organisation close to her heart: “The people who supported me during that time became my family and the muses for my album. This is such a beautiful full circle moment for me, to be in the privileged position of being able to pay that debt forward. Thank you all so much for your support. I love you.”

The EP features beautifully stripped back versions of three songs from her album, showcasing the heartfelt raw emotion and vulnerability that went into writing them: “We were originally gonna use the actual demos that got me signed by Phoebe, but my voice has changed a lot since then and I wanted to redo them, but in exactly the same way: with two vocal tracks and two guitar tracks, recorded in my bedroom on tape. You Are The Morning is an album about queer love and hope and solidarity, and so I wanted to share these tracks in that spirit.” Listen to the EP and donate on bandcamp now.

Ghostwoman – ‘Alive’
Set to release their new album in September, Belgium/Canada based duo Evan Uschenko and Ille van Dessel aka Ghostwoman have shared this anthemic new single. Propelled by Uschenko’s fuzzy hooks which he played on a 12 string guitar, along with van Dessel’s fierce caustic beats, it offers an impassioned ode to continuing to find joy in the art of creation in spite of the dark times we’re living in. Welcome To The Civilized World, the upcoming album from Ghostwoman, is set for release on 5th September via Full Time Hobby. (ML)

Slung – ‘Limassol’
Congratulations to Brighton rockers Slung on the release of their excellent debut album, In Ways. Released via Fat Dracula, the record showcases the band’s instinctive ability to blend raging riffs, powerhouse percussion and compelling vocals into songs about inequality, generational trauma and ruminations on what could have been. This track ‘Limassol’ is a shining example of the latter, inspired by fading memories of lost love. Check out the accompanying video here. (Kate Crudgington – Features Editor)

Anna Younger – ‘Girl Guts’
This is the latest single from Scottish independent musician Anna Younger and it simmers with relatable angst. Her grungy guitars and potent vocals combine to create a foreboding soundscape, as she uses the lyrical metaphor of fruit “to explore the challenges, transitions and pain of the female existence.” (KC)

M(h)aol – ‘I Miss My Dog’
I’ve been following Irish post-punks M(h)aol since they released their powerful single ‘Laundries’ back in 2020. Their lineup has changed and their sound has developed significantly since then, which has culminated in the trio’s excellent new album, Something Soft. ‘I Miss My Dog’ is lifted from the record, released via Merge Records & TULLE. It’s an ode to drummer & vocalist Constance Keane’s late canine companion Poppy, who passed away in July 2024. (KC)

Problem Patterns ft. Matt Korvette (Pissed Jeans) – ‘Sad Old Woman’
Everyone here at GIHE loves Belfast DIY punks Problem Patterns, so it’s no surprise that we’re including their latest anthem on our playlist! Featuring vocals from Pissed Jeans’ vocalist Matt Korvette, ‘Sad Old Woman’ is the band’s riotous new effort that tackles ageist & sexist stereotypes and encourages listeners to dismiss these damaging anti-ageing narratives. The track is accompanied by a music video too, which you can watch here. We can’t wait to have Problem Patterns headline for us again at our GIHE 10th Birthday All-Dayer gig at The Cavendish Arms on Saturday 27th September. Fortitude Valley – ‘Sunshine State’
Set to release their new album this summer, Fortitude Valley have been big faves of mine since their 2021 debut, and they continue to charm my ears with their glistening new single. Complete with jangly guitars and heartfelt sugar-sweet vocals, ‘Sunshine State’ offers a sparkling reflection on the mixed feelings of front person Laura Kovic’s about leaving her home country of Australia – interweaving a nostalgic sentimentality with a driving punk-pop energy. Of the track, she explains: “I was so keen to get away! From such a beautiful place! So the song is like: I’m going back to the Sunshine State to find my younger, more melodramatic self and catch-up with her.” Part Of The Problem, Baby, the upcoming new album from Fortitude Valley, is out 1st August via Specialist Subject Records. (ML)

Rival Queens – ‘Right Now’
Following her riotous, grunge-infused debut ‘Not Your Enemy’ and the more heartfelt ‘Sun Don’t Shine’, esteemed session guitarist and songwriter Sally-Anne Hickman aka Rival Queens has now shared a sparkling new single. Reflecting on feelings of burnout and workplace apathy, ‘Right Now’ oozes shades of the sparkling indie-pop of bands such as Best Coast as its swirling musicality and shimmering singalong refrains offer an insight into Sally-Anne’s ability to create heartfelt instant earworms of any genre. (ML)

Junk Whale – ‘Grief Song’
Over the last couple of weeks since the new self-released EP from Junk Whale came out, I’ve been pretty much listening to it non-stop, unable to get enough of its scuzzy raw emotion and lilting indie-pop energy. Despite covering poignant themes such as grief and mental illness, the EP as a whole oozes an uplifting effervescent spirit, each track offering an instantly catchy jangly earworm (and not a repeating chorus in sight!). The band expand: “Lyrically, this might be our darkest release yet, written under the cloud of lockdown malaise and personal setbacks. But musically, it’s probably our most upbeat and energetic.” (ML)

Strange New Places – ‘Sleep For Dinner’
The third in a series of singles released ahead of their new album, ‘Sleep For Dinner’ is the latest offering from Belfast’s Strange New Places. Juxtaposing reflections on feelings of fatigue and depression with an uptempo scuzzy energy, and the band’s trademark fiercely impassioned emotion, they’re keen for us to keep in mind that – despite its resonant subject matter, “…the track is also funny and a bop.” Another instant fave from this queer, neurodiverse band of “right on radicals with low self-esteem.” (ML)

Maya Lakhani – ‘Fall For Me’
Someone who’s wowed us with her energy-fuelled live shows on more than one occasion, and with acclaim from the likes of Radio 1’s Jodie Bryant and BBC Introducing Melita Dennett, rising star Maya Lakhani is a firm fave here at GIHE. Inspired by ‘00s teen movie prom scenes, latest single ‘Fall For Me’ flows with a soaring shimmering emotion, as jangling hooks provide the backdrop for Lakhani’s rich vocals, creating a heartfelt alt-rock anthem. ettie – ‘The Song I Scream In The Shower’
The new single from queer pop-punk artist ettie, ‘The Song I Scream In The Shower’ offers a perfect nostalgia-tinged ‘revenge-bop’. Propelled by a fierce fun-filled energy and catchy angst-driven refrains, it reflects on the “age-old coping mechanism of getting all your feelings out in the shower.” I can’t wait to hear more catchy anthems from ettie! (ML)

Catbear – ‘Who Cares?’
Having been part of the dreamiest of weekends with us last month, supporting Roller Derby at two consecutive sold out shows in London and Brighton, Brighton-based duo CATBEAR have now shared a catchy new single. Propelled by an uplifting fizzing energy and fierce driving beats, a raw emotion shines through the lush vocals, offering a glistening slice of empowering electro-pop; a shimmering ode to the draining emotions that come with social anxiety (a sentiment I can very much relate to!). Of the track, singer/guitarist Zoe explains: “The song sounds upbeat, but underneath it’s me trying to stay grounded – reminding myself it’s okay to show up, be a bit awkward, and not care so much what anyone thinks.” ‘Who Cares’ will feature on Catbear’s upcoming second album, due for release later this year. (ML)

Beauty Sleep – ‘Radical Happiness’
Recently signed to Alcopop! Records with the announcement of the upcoming release of their second album, Derry faves Beauty Sleep have now shared a colourful new single to celebrate. Fizzing with a glitchy energy and swirling uplifting emotion, album “theme song” ‘Radical Happiness’ offers a twinkling, empowering ode to self care and embracing doing things that bring you joy. Of the inspiration behind the track, the duo explain: “Our mental health was so low and we were such people pleasers to a fault that prioritising our emotions and desires felt radical. So we embarked on figuring out how to find Radical Happiness by living it—we did all the things we thought we weren’t good enough for, things we thought we would do ‘when we were successful,’ or ‘when we had more money,’ or when the perfect conditions were just so…” The Whole Damn Cake, the upcoming second album from Beauty Sleep, is set for release in October this year. ZAND – ‘TOES!’
I’ve been following the well deserved rise of “sewerstar” ZAND since we interviewed them on our GIHE radio show back in 2020 (listen back here) – so I was chuffed to see this gritty single ‘TOES!’ in my inbox. It’s their first piece of new music since November 2024, equally as inspired by Eminem as it is Nine Inch Nails. ZAND is currently working on their debut album, which I can’t wait to hear in full. Twin Rains – ‘The Evil That You Know (Let It Go)’
Toronto dream-pop duo Twin Rains released one of my favourite tracks of 2023 (‘You’re The Only One’) so I was thrilled to see an email from the band (buried in my GIHE inbox) sharing new music with me! Described as “My Bloody Valentine meets Oasis in the dystopian present” this new track ‘The Evil That You Know (Let It Go)’ is full of their trademark intoxicating riffs, dreamy vocals and driving beats. Errunhrd – ‘Don’t Drink Chemicals’
Canadian songwriter and producer Shirin Ghoujalou aka Errunhrd has shifted from dream-pop to dark electronica on her latest album, Everything I’ve Ever Known, and I am here for it! This change in musical direction was inspired by a need to explore parts of her psyche that she had previously ignored, experimenting with MIDI string orchestration, vocoders, granular synthesis and syncopated melodies to help her carve a path towards self-love and acceptance. Venus In Noise – ‘In The Sun’
A jagged ray of sonic sunshine from London-based duo Venus In Noise here! This new single is full of the pair’s trademark dark electronics and infectious rhythms, which they’ve been sharing with crowds through their live performances – including a show at East London’s Sebright Arms – earlier this month. (KC)

Elaine Mai ft. Faye O’Rourke – ‘AIM’
Irish electronic artist Elaine Mai is gearing up to release her second album, For Us, on 19th September. This collaborative track ‘AIM’ – featuring Soda Blonde vocalist Faye O’Rourke – is an exciting taste of what we can expect from the talented producer. Inspired by “generational trauma and its lingering effects,” O’Rourke’s heartfelt vocals soar above Mai’s potent dance beats and shape-shifting electronics, showcasing her instinct for crafting melodic and surprisingly emotive dance anthems. Nastazia Bazil – ‘Call Me Habibi’
Having released her debut album this week, Lebanese artist Nastazia Bazil never believed that she would be able be able to play music that other people would want to hear, but since forming a band at First Timers Fest a few years back she has been proved wrong; a familiar face on the London DIY live circuit, she has been frequently charming audiences across the city with their unique, immersive sounds. Taken from the album, ‘Call Me Habibi’ offers a truly stirring anthem, reflecting on feelings of being torn – knowing that she can’t move back to Lebanon due to political unrest, but feeling homesick and missing simple things such as her mum’s cooking. From Beirut To Anywhere, the debut album from Nastazia Bazil, is out now. Listen/download on bandcamp. (ML)

Lōwli – ‘Ground Above You’
“‘Ground Above You’ explores feeling lost in your sense of self, while struggling to find purpose and understanding in an often unsettling and disjointed world,” explains Irish composer and songwriter Lōwli about her latest single. A beguiling blend of lilting keys, disarming vocals and ethereal string sounds, the track beautifully showcases Lōwli’s ability to transport listeners to another realm – making her one of my favourite new music discoveries this year. Maria Somerville – ‘Spring’
Lifted from her captivating new album, Luster, this lush track by Irish musician Maria Somerville is a tonic for tired ears. Released via 4AD, Somerville’s latest full length was written and recorded in Connemara in the artist’s home county of Galway. Energised by the fondness and familiarity of her surroundings, she created twelve tracks that shimmer with sensitivity and a serene sense of self-confidence, with this single ‘Spring’ being a perfect example of both. The New Eves – ‘Rivers Run Red’
Team GIHE caught Brighton four-piece The New Eves live for the first time at The Great Escape Festival in May, and we were captivated by their incendiary blend of classical instrumentation and punk spirit. This track features on their debut album, The New Eve Is Rising, set for release on 1st August via Transgressive Records. ‘Rivers Run Red’ is an amalgamation of the band’s beginnings – from guitarist/violinist Violet pouring blood on to herself during early performances, to drummer, flutist & vocalist Ella’s heartfelt teenage poetry – showcasing the power and originality of the ensemble’s musical vision. We’ll definitely be at their London show at Hoxton Hall on 7th October. (KC)

Nadah El Shazly – ‘Laini Tani’
Egyptian, Montreal-based producer, vocalist, composer and actor Nadah El Shazly has released her highly anticipated second album, showcasing her immersive, genre-defying sounds and ability to fuse traditional Arabic influences with a more avant-garde improvisational instrumentation. Title track ‘Laini Tani’ offers a mesmerising insight into the sounds El Shazly is able to create; flowing with a delicate, twinkling musicality, it builds with a subtle soaring power and glitchy energy into a truly spellbinding ballad. Laini Tani, the new album from Nadah El Shazly, is out now via One Little Independent Records. (ML)

Lightheaded – ‘The View From Your Room’
Formed back in 2017, New Jersey’s Lightheaded are set to release their second album later this month, and to celebrate, they’ve shared this shimmering new single. ‘The View From Your Room’ ripples with a cinematic musicality and lilting energy, as gorgeous sunny vibes emanate with shades of the likes of indie-pop faves Camera Obscura or Best Coast.
Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming, the upcoming new album from Lightheaded, is out on 27th June via Skep Wax. (ML)

Ailsa Tully – ‘Self Soothing’
The first single taken from her upcoming debut album, ‘Self Soothing’ offers a welcome return from Welsh artist and GIHE fave Ailsa Tully. Offering a vulnerable sentimentality, a delicate musicality glistens as Tully’s distinctive crystalline vocals flow seamlessly with a stirring raw emotion throughout. With its added immersive synth-driven layers and subtle sense of angst that ripples under its surface, a gritty edge is added to this innovative artist’s trademark heartfelt splendour. (ML)

Rats-Tails – ‘Public Domain’
Having blown us away with their unique eclectic sounds and immersive energy playing for us last year at The Shacklewell Arms, South East London faves Rats-Tails have now released their first single of 2025. Flowing with a lilting folk-strewn musicality and mystical allure, ‘Public Domain’ reflects on feelings of burn-out, the intrusive thoughts that accompany it and the tension between art and commodification. As front-person Courtney McMahon’s ethereal vocals shimmer throughout, a dreamily psychedelic soundscape is created, cementing Rats-Tails as an innovative band impossible to pigeon hole into any one genre. Kate Nash – ‘Germ’
Amidst all the terrifying regression of policies and ridiculous attempts by those in power to curtail the rights of trans folk, being an ally is more important than ever before. So, it’s been great to hear Kate Nash use her platform to spread the word and speak out against so-called feminists who are set on excluding trans women from public spaces and inciting fear and hatred with new single ‘GERM’. With its direct lyricism taking aim at these ‘Exclusionary Regressive Misogynists’, Nash explains: “I am left uneasy as I see behaviours we would otherwise or previously label as intolerance or bullying become normalised & even celebrated by the media & in society. Dismantling systems of oppression lies at the very core of feminism. If you are transphobic, therefore, you are not a feminist. Welcome to your rebrand, GERM.” Just to clarify, as Nash states in the song, “I’ve never felt threatened by a trans person” and will continue to stand by my trans siblings today and every day. Scrounge – ‘UTG’
We love South London duo Scrounge for their politically-charged anthems and their latest single ‘UTG’ is no exception. Despite being softer in sound, it’s just as hard-hitting when it comes to the personal nature of the lyrics, penned by vocalist and guitarist Lucy. She explains further: “As a queer person, it feels as though you never stop coming out; you’re always protective of that tiny bit of yourself that makes you ‘different’. This song is a reminder to look after and respect your queer and trans mates who are often not given the dignity and respect they deserve.” We back that all the way here at GIHE. Scrounge will be releasing their second album, Almost Like You Could, on 18th April via Ba Da Bing! Records. (Kate Crudgington – Features Editor)

Sacred Paws – ‘Turn Me Down’
The latest single from long-term faves Sacred Paws, ‘Turn Me Down’ reflects on the rawness of rejection; juxtaposing this poignant sentiment with the duo’s trademark jangly energy and colourful musicality. And, after a five year hiatus, Ray and Eidlih have now announced the release of a new album, Jump Into Life, which is due out on 28th March – and I’m very excited about it!

Dose – ‘Parallelogram’
I was thrilled when this track from Dublin four piece Dose dropped into my inbox earlier this month. The dream-pop band features ex-Bitch Falcon guitarist & vocalist/Coolgirl producer Lizzie who I’m a big fan of, as well as Merpire who I saw perform live supporting Ailbhe Reddy at East London’s Moth Club a few years ago. Dose have been playing local shows in Ireland over the past 12 months and they’ll be releasing their debut EP later this year too. ‘Parallelogram’ is the second offering from this exciting new band and I’m looking forward to hearing more from them. Maria Somerville – ‘Garden’
A beautiful, atmospheric offering from from Galway-based NTS Radio host Maria Somerville here. ‘Garden’ is lifted from her upcoming album, Luster, which is set for release on 25th April via 4AD. Her soft vocals and lilting electronics melt into each other, providing escapism and respite for overwhelmed ears. (KC)

Anika – ‘Hearsay’
I love this shadowy new track from British-born, Berlin-based musician Anika. It’s taken from her new album, Abyss, which is set for release on 4th April via Sacred Bones (one of my favourite labels). The LP is a form of sonic rebellion for Anika, inspired by the 90s grunge scene as much as it is about the unpredictable nature of the world we currently live in. (KC)

Bonnie Trash – ‘Hellmouth’
Ontario gothic rockers Bonnie Trash release their brand new album Mourning You today (28th Feb) via Hand Drawn Dracula! Originally formed by twins Emmalia & Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, Bonnie Trash’s sound and aesthetic has evolved into a fully fleshed band with an angst-ridden energy and edgy aesthetic to match. This track ‘Hellmouth’ is the perfect example of both. Check out the accompanying video for it here. (KC)

Daffo – ‘Absence Makes The Heart Grow’
The songwriting project of Brooklyn-based, Philly-raised Gabi Gamberg, Daffo is a new fave for sure. New single ‘Absence Makes The Heart Grow’ offers a wonderfully scuzzy slice of indie-pop, searing with a raw emotion alongside its fizzing hooks. Of the meaning behind the track, Gamberg explains: “I wrote the song at the end of a relationship, and in my pain, I felt as though the cliche about distance making the heart grow fonder was a sham… It made everything harder, the waves of emotion that accompanied reuniting and separating were too intense to navigate.” Definitely one to watch for 2025, you can catch Daffo live at The George Tavern on 13th May. Raue – ‘Escape’
Californian duo Raue (pronounced Roo-AY) are inspired by the sounds of Softcult, Wolf Alice, Fleshwater and Billie Eillish. I love their blend of swirling riffs and soft vocals on this track ‘Escape’, which features on their debut EP, too scared to explain, set for release on 9th May. (KC)

Gloin – ‘Horse Fighting’
Toronto-based post punks Gloin are totally new to me, but I love their latest single ‘Horse Fighting’. It’s taken from their excellently titled upcoming second album, All of your anger is actually shame (and I bet that makes you angry), which is set for release via Mothland on 28th March. (KC)

Grandmas House – ‘From The Gods’
Following on from their raucous love song ‘Slaughterhouse’, this new single from Bristol punks Grandmas House is visceral break-up anthem. It’s lifted from the band’s upcoming EP, Anything For You, which is set for release on 11th April via Duchess Box Records. Check out the accompanying video for the track here. (KC)

Punchlove – ‘(sublimate)’
I’m hooked on Brooklyn band Punchlove’s latest single ‘(sublimate)’. Combining shoegaze riffs with twitchy electronics, the track has an industrial edge that becomes more prevalent after repeated listens. ‘(sublimate)’ is inspired by band member Jillian Olesen’s perception-altering experiences after a self-imposed lengthy period of digital and physical isolation, exploring feelings of “entrapment and suffocation within a reality that is inextricably bound by the powerful grip of the digital world.” (KC)

Calva Louise – ‘WTF’
The ferocious new single from Calva Louise, ‘WTF’ showcases front woman Jess’ fierce vocal with an immense power. She explains that the single is “about that feeling of powerlessness that occurs when we are in situations beyond our control.” Calva Louise will be supporting Bloodywood on their European tour, and you can catch them at Kentish Town Forum on 27th March – and I strongly recommend catching them live, as you can imagine it’s a pretty colossal experience. (ML)

BACKXWASH – ‘Wake Up’
I love the the raw power behind this shape-shifting track from Zambian-Canadian rapper and producer BACKXWASH. ‘Wake Up’ is taken from her upcoming album, Only Dust Remains, which she will be releasing via her own label Ugly Hag on 28th March. This new record has been described as “leaving the ashes of BACKXWASH’S critically acclaimed trilogy of albums behind and taking a bold new direction” in sound. BACKXWASH will also be returning to the UK to play Supersonic Festival in Birmingham later this year. (KC)

Alien Chicks – ‘Donkeyhead’
Brixton trio Alien Chicks are back with this belter of a new single. Taken from their second EP, Forbidden Fruit, which is set for release on 9th May via Hideous Mink Records, it’s another raucous offering from the post-punk band, spotlighting their ability to write tongue-in-cheek anthems that fizz with frenetic energy. Rebuilt Boys – ‘Shotgun Divorce’
This is the third single from Peterborough-based queer/trans electronic noise-rock two-piece Rebuilt Boys. Full of jagged riffs, post-punk inspired electronics and pounding beats, it’s a raw and righteous anthem of defiance. (KC)

Laura Jane Grace – ‘Your God (God’s D*ck)’
A stark reflection on religious devotion and the ever increasing limits to free speech that the far right are imposing, this raging new single from Against Me alumni Laura Jane Grace oozes all the fierce energy and tongue-in-cheek wit that I’ve come to know and love from her solo work. (ML)

Rival Queens – ‘Not Your Enemy’
You may know her as the guitarist for artist-on-the-rise Maya Lakhani, but now Sally-Anne Hickman has launched her own solo project, Rival Queens. Born out of a songwriting course by Phillipa Cookman (The Singing Guitarist) that Hickman attended, Rival Queens draws inspiration from the ‘90s grunge movement and epic guitar-driven rock, and this debut single showcases Hickman’s musical prowess as its catchy refrain “I am not your enemy” hammers home its message with a raging sense of urgency. Crown and Conquer, the debut album from Rival Queens, is set for release on 27th June. (ML)

SPELLLING – ‘Alibi’
This is such a gear change in sound from San Francisco-based artist SPELLLING and I love it! Featuring Turnstile’s Pat McCrory on guitar, ‘Alibi’ is a cathartic dose of pop punk, featured on her upcoming album Portrait Of My Heart, set for release on 28th March via Sacred Bones. (KC)

Monday’s Child – ‘Problem Girl’
This hazy new single from Belfast-based alt-rock band Monday’s Child is a reflection on insecurity and the contradictory nature of our inner voices. ‘Problem Girl’ will feature on the band’s debut EP, which is due to be released in May of this year. (KC)

Brain Leak – ‘Trying’
Brain Leak are a bit of a supergroup of sorts – the project of Tara-Gabriella Engelhardt from the band Adjustments, the band also features Sid from The Orielles, Jess from Peaness and Giulia from Working Men’s Club. Combining a glistening raw emotion with a fizzing gritty energy, debut single ‘Trying‘ is propelled by the delicate celestial power of Engelhardt’s vocals, offering a beautifully resonant reflection on attachment and the challenging emotional experiences that can accompany it. A new favourite for sure, I strongly suggest keeping an eye out for more from Brain Leak – they’ve already sold out Yes! in Manchester. To find out more, read our interview with Tara here. (ML)

Ezra Furman – ‘Grand Mal’
The latest single from innovative artist Ezra Furman, ‘Grand Mal’ is first taster of her upcoming 10th album, Goodbye Small Head, I really love its swirling cinematic layers which ripple alongside Furman’s trademark raw emotion. Describing the album, she says: “Is it dark? Yeah! Is it also wonder-struck, laced with psychedelic beauty, triumphant in its wounded way? Yeah again. And by the end of it, the whole thing flames out in a burst of good old-fashioned rock and roll.” It sounds perfect, and I can’t wait for its release on 16th May. (ML)

Freak Slug – ‘Liquorice’
After being completely obsessed with their single ‘Spells’ last year, I’m very excited to hear that Manchester’s Freak Slug will be releasing the extended version of their debut album, I Blow Out Big Candles (But With A Cherry On Top), on 7th March, following the original release last November. This latest single only features on the expanded edition and offers jangly hooks, quirky energy and sugar sweet vocals in abundance. Catch Freak Slug live on their UK tour in May, including a headline show at Moth Club on the 22nd. (ML)

Housewife – ‘Work Song’
This single from queer Canadian artist Housewife is an infectious glitchy anthem that fizzes with relatable angst. It’s taken from her upcoming EP, Girl Of The Hour, which is set for release on 7th March via Submarine Cat Records. The EP is a buoyant reflection on identity, love and gender, all underscored by Housewife’s playful alt-pop sounds. (KC)

Supersaurus – ‘Fool For You’
We’ve been big fans of “non-binary fronted indie-pop girl band” Supersaurus since being introduced to their queer sad-pop bangers back in 2023, and new single ‘Fool For You’ offers another nostalgic heartfelt anthem. Of the track, the band explain: “If life was a 90s romcom, it would be the soundtrack. Every main character deserves their own epic soundtrack and ‘Fool For You’ serves as the perfect anthem for anyone who has ever been a fool for love and surrendered to its enchanting allure.” (ML)

Blonde Maze – ‘Never Dream’
I’ve made no secret of my love of New York artist Blonde Maze over the last decade of Get In Her Ears, and so it always bring me a lot of joy when she shares a new song. ‘Never Dream’ is her third collaboration with innovative electro artist Attom and oozes all the dreamy blissful vibes and soothing heartfelt charm that I’ve come to expect from her gorgeous creations. The single comes ahead of the release of her sophomore album, Second Sight, on 23rd May – and to say I’m excited about a brand new collection of her gloriously cathartic offerings is an understatement. Shura ft. Cassandra Jenkins – ‘Richardson’
This is the second single from British songwriter Shura’s upcoming album, I Got Too Sad For My Friends, set for release on the 30th May. Featuring New York vocalist Cassandra Jenkins, ‘Richardson’ is a song about “walking, thinking, and trying to find comfort somewhere” guided by Shura’s soft voice and gentle beats. (KC)

Deerhoof – ‘Sparrow Sparrow’
One of the new ‘double B-sides’ from innovative dance-rock collective Deerhoof, ‘Sparrow Sparrow’ showcases their quirky fizzing energy and shimmering charm perfectly. The track is released alongside ‘Overrated Species Anyhow’, and the band are donating all proceeds to The Trevor Project – a non-profit suicide prevention organisation for the LGBTQ+ community. (ML)

Selma French – ‘Little Sisters and Friends’
The latest single from Norwegian artist Selma French, ‘Little Sisters and Friends’ offers a comforting ode to the younger people in our lives, and reflects on the need to care for and support them in their life’s journey. Flowing with lilting folk-strewn melodies and the rich sparkling grace of French’s vocals, it’s a gorgeous first taste of her upcoming second album, No Sign Of Rotten Leaves, which is set for release on 25th April. Penelope Trappes – ‘A Requiem’
This is a beautiful sonic rumination from Brighton-based Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist Penelope Trappes. ‘A Requiem’ is the title track from her upcoming album, which is set for release on 4th April via One Little Independent. I’ve found each of Trappes’ singles and accompanying videos for this project to be really thought-provoking and evocative, and despite the album’s melancholy context, I feel like she has expressed something truly pure and beautiful about the shape-shifting nature of grief on this latest effort. Maud The Moth – ‘Exuviae’
Another exquisitely eccentric offering from Spanish-born, Scotland-based multi-instrumentalist Amaya Lopez-Carromero aka MAUD THE MOTH here. ‘Exuviae’ is lifted from her upcoming album, The Distaff, which is set for release on 21st February. The LP is an “ethereal but violent” amalgamation of autobiographical experiences, folklore, myth and poetry” which the artist explores in her own idiosyncratic manner. (KC)

Divide & Dissolve – ‘Provenance’
Multi-instrumentalist Takiaya Reed is back with her heavy instrumental project Divide and Dissolve and this gargantuan new single ‘Provenance’. Full of her trademark eerie saxophone sounds, crushing riffs and bruising beats, the single is the first offering from Divide and Dissolve’s new album, Insatiable, which is set for release on 18th April via Bella Union. Reed will also be returning to Supersonic Festival in Birmingham this year – which I am very excited about! Watch the accompanying video for ‘Provenance’ here. (KC)

Venamoris – ‘Truth’
Eclectic American duo Venamoris – formed of Dave and Paula Lombardo – have moved into darker sonic territory on their new album, To Cross Or To Burn, released today (28th Feb). Full of cinematic electronics and impassioned vocals, this track ‘Truth’ is lifted from the record, which focuses around soul searching and the need for acceptance. (KC)

Kills Birds – ‘Behind’
Mari & I saw LA band Kills Birds live at Hackney’s Moth Club back in 2022, and I remember front person Nina Ljeti being a colossal force on stage. It’s great to see that the band are back with ‘Behind’, a seething new anthem and their first new music since their second album, Married (2021). Check out the accompanying video for the track here.

Girl Tones – ‘Fade Away’
A proper stomper of a track from sister duo Girl Tones here! ‘Fade Away’ is their debut offering, produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant and released via his label Parallel Vision. The pair blend visceral riffs, propulsive beats and defiant vocals together to create this irresistible cacophony of noise. Watch the accompanying video here. (KC)

Sacred Paws – ‘Another Day’
After a five year hiatus, we’re super excited that London/Glasgow duo Sacred Paws have returned to our ears. We love everything that Ray Aggs does and were honoured to have them headline one of our gigs earlier this year, and now the revival of this project with Eilidh Rogers comes as a very welcome surprise. Reflecting on the theme of remaining positive in the face of heartbreak, new single ‘Another Day’ flows with the duo’s trademark lilting and uplifting energy and distinctive sparkling harmonies, whilst introducing a heartfelt folk-strewn sound with the inclusion of banjo played by Ray’s father. Apparently there’s more new music on the way next year, and we cannot wait!

Alien Chicks – ‘Babe’
I’ve been following Brixton trio Alien Chicks since Mari booked them for a GIHE gig back in 2022. Since then, their dynamic, blistering anthems have seen them support Mercury Prize winners English Teacher on their UK tour, and they’ve released their debut EP, Indulging The Mobs. ‘Babe’ is another antagonistic offering from the trio that playfully explores the idea that “we’re all masochists, politically and socially.” (KC)

Jæd – ‘Sight Gas Went Uh’
Another unique offering from London-based Irish-Puerto Rican musician Jæd here, taken from her debut album, I Loved The Gauntlet And There Was No Other Way. Set for release tomorrow (29th Nov) via cult Irish label The Delphi Label, the record is a visceral, eclectic cacophony of sounds inspired by the uncertainty and hardship that Jæd has lived through. She played a GIHE gig for us in October last year supporting Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra and we were all blown away by her stage presence, dynamic vocal range and guitar playing. ‘Sight Gas Went Uh’ is the perfect example of all three. Eilis Frawley – ‘Fall Forward’
Having recently headlined for us at New River Studios as part of Kara Delik, Berlin-based musician Eilis Frawley has now announced the release of a new solo album in March next year. Ahead of the album’s release, she has shared title track ‘Fall Forward’. Interweaving whirring layers of sound, it combines glitchy electronics with Frawley’s distinctive poignant lyric storytelling and propulsive drum beats. Building with a searing sense of urgency to a glistening cacophony, it showcases Frawley’s ability to create innovative kaleidoscopes of sound. Fall Forward, the upcoming album, will be released on 7th March, and is co-produced by Frawley and Kat Frankie. Eilis Frawley will also be over in the UK for some live dates with her band next May – keep your eyes peeled! (ML)

M(h)aol – ‘Snare’
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” explains M(h)aol’s lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.” I’ve been a big fan of Irish post-punks M(h)aol since they released their debut single ‘Laundries’ back in 2020, and despite recent lineup changes, it’s great to see that the band have lost none of their momentum. ‘Snare’ is another potent anthem about autonomy and empowerment, delivered with the band’s trademark visceral grit. Glixen – ‘Lick The Star’
I’ve loved everything that Phoenix shoegazers Glixen have released this year. Taken from their upcoming EP, Quiet Pleasures, which is set for release on 21st February 2025, their latest single ‘Lick The Star’ smoulders with longing, building from it’s gentle atmospheric intro into a potent wall of sound. Brutus – ‘Paradise’
Belgian heavy trio Brutus are back with this majestic new track ‘Paradise’. Originally written for the Streamz Original drama series Putain, it’s full of the band’s trademark heavy riffs and drummer Stefanie Mannaerts’ impressive vocals. (KC)

Disarme – ‘Change’
I love this bittersweet debut single from Franco-Malagasy artist Disarme. Driven by a palpable but sublime sense of melancholy, ‘Change’ is inspired by the loneliness and disillusionment that can come from living in fast-paced, expensive city environments. Through her gentle vocals and evocative guitar riffs, Disarme attempts to soothe these pangs of anxiety. (KC)

Claire Pitt Wigmore – ‘Cerebellum’
Creating swirling slices of psychedelia, Margate musician Claire Pitt Wigmore and her band have recently shared new a EP. With lyrics reflecting on Claire’s experience of cancer and the treatment that follow, it fuses together elements of psych, shoegaze and jazz, it offers a stirring exploration of facing this immensely challenging experience at such a young age. Title track ‘Cerebellum’ fizzes with whirring hooks alongside Claire’s emotion-strewn vocals; an immersive introduction to what this new Kent band are capable of creating. (ML)

Janita – ‘Real Deal’
Inspired by two of her favorite films – The 400 Blows and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid – this pop rock track from Finland-born artist Janita celebrates the joy of rebellion. It’s taken from her upcoming album, Mad Equation, which is set for release in May 2025. (KC)

Gay Skeleton Club – ‘W3t L3g’
London based queer DIY band Gay Skeleton Club formed at First Timers Fest last year and have been total faves of mine since they played live for us at Matchstick Piehouse in December. I just love their fizzing pop-punk sounds and quirky, tongue-in-cheek energy, and this track about the the infamous band that everyone seems to love to hate really is a total bop. It’s taken from the band’s new 7 track demos EP, and showcases the band’s raging, fun-filled spirit. I cannot wait to have them play for us again soon. (ML)

Roller Derby – ‘Emily’s Dance’
Hamburg dream-pop duo Roller Derby recently announced the exciting news that they will be releasing their debut album in February next year and have now shared the fourth single to be taken from it. Reflecting on the juxtaposed feelings of powerlessness and fascination in the face of the universe, ‘Emily’s Dance’ interweaves atmospheric dream-pop with shades of ‘80s synth-pop, creating a swirling, mystical soundscape. This new single is accompanied by beautifully animated video, perfectly encapsulating the essence of the track – have a watch here. When The Night Comes, the debut album from Roller Derby, is set for release on 28th February, and the band will be over in the UK for a little run of dates in May – nab tickets here. (ML)

Joni – ‘Avalanches’
Having toured with the likes of Laura Viers and Aqualung and written for many of the biggest names in pop, London-based American artist Joni has now shared her brand new single. Oozing a glistening emotion, ‘Avalanches’ offers a poignant reflection on the duality of love and heartbreak, as it flows with lilting melodies and heartfelt- sugar-sweet vocals. (ML)

All Cats Are Beautiful – ‘livin a life on splitscreen’
In 2021 London based duo All Cats Are Beautiful released their gorgeous mini album, The Things We Made. However, playing gigs and writing new songs then fell to the back burner when Ky from the band’s partner of ten years suddenly tragically passed away that same year. Now, three years on, Ky and Elena finally feel ready to share new music with EP, Just Kids; a heart achingly beautiful reflection on love and loss. The opening track from the collection, ‘living a life on splitscreen’ oozes a swirling emotion-rich splendour. As delicate electronic hooks and a twinkling rippling energy provide the backdrop for the vulnerability and raw emotion of its nostalgic reflective lyricism, it offers glistening shades of hope as it reflects on a roadtrip across LA that Ky took with their partner a year before the tragedy occurred. The rest of the EP delves into stark reflections on the pain that comes with losing someone you love intensely; as the band so perfectly put it: “grief is just love with no place to go”. Thank you to Ky and Elena for sharing such a beautifully cathartic and honest collection with us. (ML)

Dirt Flirt – ‘Dramatic’
The solo project of London-based multi-instrumentalist Kit Eaton-Kent, Dirt Flirt reflects on queer identity, playfully combining introspective lyrics with glitchy beats and a playful energy. Exploring the complexities of being your own worst enemy, new single ‘Dramatic’ showcases her rich emotive vocals with a swirling empowering energy, creating an instantly catchy slice of alt-pop. Cults – ‘Onions’
New York duo Cults have just rounded up their EU & UK tour, in celebration of their most recent album, To The Ghosts. This track ‘Onions’ features on the record, fizzing with its playful synths and Madeline Follin’s honeyed vocals. (KC)

paun – ‘counterintelligence’
‘counterintelligence’ is the latest single from Berlin-based, non-binary electronic artist paun. They lean into “grimey, futuristic and IDM-inspired” territory here, with their elastic synths and twitchy beats. paun is currently working on a new EP, which will be released in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Birthday Problem ft. Molly O’Mahony – ‘The Language Of War’
Another eclectic creation from Irish collaborative electronica project Birthday Problem here. Formed of Matt Harris and Rocky O’Reilly, ‘The Language Of War’ is their seventh single, featuring songwriter Molly O’Mahony. Her vocals float over sci-fi synth textures and twitchy beats, creating a commanding soundscape inspired by the paradoxical nature of war. (KC)

afromerm – ‘reciprocity’
This track from London-based artist and GIHE favourite afromerm is about the duality of balancing our inner and relational worlds; getting lost in thoughts, versus present, reciprocal care with those we love – a powerful concept that she treats with such grace and gentility. ‘reciprocity’ will feature on her debut three track EP, which is set for release in the near future. I love everything that afromerm creates and I can’t wait to hear more. (KC)

Elsa Hewitt – ‘White Mirror’
Another exquisite electronic soundscape from GIHE fave Elsa Hewitt, lifted from her upcoming album, Dominant Heartstrings. Elsa also released an album called Chaos Emeralds earlier this year, which is one of my favourite records of 2024. (KC)

Kathryn Mohr – ‘Driven’
The music of Oakland-based artist Kathryn Mohr is new to my ears, but I was instantly captivated by her otherworldly sound. This track ‘Driven’ is taken from her upcoming album, Waiting Room, which is set for release on 24th January 2025 via The Flenser. Mohr wrote and recorded the LP over the course of a month, within the walls of a disused fish factory in Iceland and surrounded by remote nature. The result is an intense rumination on the human condition, tethered together through her veiled vocals, field recordings and affecting instrumentation. (KC)

Penelope Trappes – ‘Sleep’
Newly signed to One Little Independent Records, I love this gloomy rumination from Brighton-based, Australian-born artist Penelope Trappes. Taken from her upcoming album, A Requiem, which is set for release on 4th April 2025, ‘Sleep’ is a reflection on the sublime power of nightmares and night terrors, with her haunting voice guiding listeners through her heavy atmospheric instrumentation. When I bumped into Penelope at Supersonic Festival in September earlier this year, she told me that she would be releasing this track and that the marvellous Maxine Peake and Kate Dickie would be starring in the accompanying video, directed by the excellent Agnes Haus. MAUD THE MOTH – ‘Siphonophores’
Spanish-born, Scotland-based multi-instrumentalist Amaya Lopez-Carromero aka MAUD THE MOTH has shared this new single, alongside the announcement of her new album, The Distaff. Set for release on 21st February 2025, the LP is an “ethereal but violent” amalgamation of autobiographical experiences, folklore and Greek myth and poetry. ‘Siphonophores’ offers listeners a haunting insight into what they can expect from the record, filled with eerie keys, dramatic volume shifts and diaphanous vocals. Sharon Van Etten – ‘Afterlife’
Marking a new era with her band, long term favourite Sharon Van Etten has now announced the release of a new album, accompanying the news with an exquisite new single; an exciting taster of her new sound. Soaring with Van Etten’s distinctive rich, sumptuous vocals, ‘Afterlife’ builds with a celestial splendour to a soaring heartfelt anthem, tinged with shades of ‘80s Bruce Springsteen, whilst maintaining her own unique glistening raw emotion and innovative musicality. Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, The first album to be written and recorded in total collaboration with her band, is due out on 7th February via Jagjaguwar. (ML)

Julien Baker & Calvin Lauber ft. Soak, Quinn Christopherson – ‘Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying’
After a few years of Julien Baker being one of my most listened-to artists, constantly seeking catharsis in the exquisite raw emotion and resonant reflections of her offerings, it was such a joy to finally see her live at one her five dates at Earth last week. And with beautiful support from Katie Malco and Soak, it really was an evening of (very emotional) dreams. I was there alone, in amongst a lot of teenagers and their parents, my heart gently shattering and tears falling down my silly 38 year old face throughout. For more eloquent words about the gig, a full review will be coming up on the website in the next couple of days. (ML)

Horsegirl – ‘2468’
With their second album due out in February next year, Chicago best-friend trio Horsegirl have now shared new single ‘2468’. Propelled by a jangly, playful energy, it showcases the band’s ability to interweave off-kilter sounds and influences into a perfectly scuzzy, musically rich taster of what’s to come on the upcoming LP. Phonetics, the new album from Horsegirl, is produced by Cate Le Bon and is set for release on 14th February next year. (ML)

Naima Adams – ‘Stay’
Described as “dub-fused percussive soul collision,” ‘Stay’ is the second single from South London-based artist Naima Adams. Her honeyed vocals and eclectic instrumentation fuse seamlessly together as she explores the difficulties of finding connection in everyday existence in the city. (KC)

Sunflower Thieves – ‘Same Blood’
This is the title track from Leeds alt-folk duo Sunflower Thieves latest EP, which is inspired by the strength of female friendship. Across five songs, the duo capture the shifts and nuances of long-term connections, shared experiences and growing pains, all underscored by their soft acoustic guitars and gentle vocals. (KC)

Aisha Badru – ‘In The Making’
Set to release her new album tomorrow (Nov 29th), Nigerian-American artist Aisha Badru offers beautifully stirring reflections on our life’s journey towards healing with a blissful charm and delicate effervescent grace. May Payne – ‘Something Else’
Having received acclaim from Chris Hawkins on BBC 6 Music, and set to perform at the Royal Albert Hall tonight (28th Nov), young queer artist May Payne has been gradually garnering a large fan base since the age of 15 when they first started creating music while growing up in rural Dorset. With a delicate folk-strewn musicality, ‘Something Else’ showcases the rich sparkling grace of Payne’s exquisite emotion-rich vocals. It’s taken from recent EP release, High Demand. (ML)

Lauren Manning – ‘Melatonin’
For the past four years, South African born, London-based songwriter Lauren Manning has been working on her debut album. Set for release on 7th December, Four Walls blends all of her eclectic musical stylings together – indie, soul and jazz – and showcases her impressive vocal range. This single ‘Melatonin’ is lifted from the record, on which Lauren meanders through the restless thoughts that keep her awake at night. Lauren will be playing a headline gig in Peckham on 7th December to celebrate the release of Four Walls. Tickets and event details here. (KC)

Rattle – ‘Your Move’
Immense drumming duo Rattle first came to my attention when I saw them supporting The Julie Ruin at Koko in 2016, but since then they have released two albums and shared stages with other legends like Animal Collective and Thurston Moore. A spellbinding insight into rhythm and metre, new single ‘Your Move’ will immerse you in its mystical allure and tribal energy on first listen of each of its epic 15 minutes. Of the track, the band reflect: “The words Your Move might be about moving in an embodied way or freedom/movement/expression, but they are also an emboldening call to action…” (ML)

Bouche – ‘The King’
consistently centring queer, femme and other under-represented artists and DJs – Bouche has now shared a soulful new single. “The last song I’ll ever write about being disappointed or hurt by a man”, ‘The King’ offers an intimate reflection on relationships with a stripped-back jazz-tinged musicality and their soaring power of their pristine vocals. ‘The King’ is accompanied by a beautiful video, made in collaboration with Deniz Kavalali and incorporating elements of drag – Bouche makes their own drag beards out of their own hair! – an empowering ode to queer catharsis. Emily Burns – ‘Die Happy’
This is the title track from British singer-songwriter Emily Burns’ debut album. Across twelve tracks, her confessional songwriting blossoms into an emotional catharsis for the artist, with ‘Die Happy’ showcasing her ability to create affecting indie pop anthems. (KC)
