WATCH: Fenne Lily – ‘On Hold’

If you’re a firm believer in small acts of kindness, then Fenne Lily‘s new video for ‘On Hold’ is going to brighten up your day. It’s the title track from her upcoming debut album which is set for release on 16th April, and the accompanying visuals are as sweet as Lily’s own vocals.

“‘On Hold’ was written as a thank you for the warmth of the world when I was at my lowest, and I wanted the video that accompanied it to be a raw representation of this gratitude,” Lily explains about the visuals. “Being nice is underrated. It makes me smile to watch, and dorky as it is, I feel this video communicates a joy that often goes untold.” The video is a self-directed, DIY project which shows Lily roller-skating around London handing out roses, captured by her friend following behind her on a skateboard with a camera.

“Dorky” or not, we love it. Watch the video for ‘On Hold’ below, and check out her UK tour dates below. Tickets are available here.

WATCH: Ms Mohammed – ‘Pandora’

A direct challenge to anyone who dares to suppress the feminine in all its forms, musician and activist Ms Mohammed has shared a video to accompany her latest single ‘Pandora’. Taken from her critically acclaimed EP Alibi, ‘Pandora’ brims with relentless riffs and thundering percussion, which reflects the strength and endurance of all the women featured in the new visuals. Among these women are Madame So, Kat Five of Feral Five and Zel from VODUN.

“We are sold limiting ideas of what it means to be female,” Ms Mohammed explains about the context behind her single and video. “The feminine is still derided in all cultures, still frowned upon, still synonymous with weakness. Truly celebrating the feminine would bring about the revolution that is so desperately needed. The Future is Femme!”

Ms Mohammed founded the Clit Rock movement in 2013 as a way of speaking out against female genital mutilation. As a champion of cross-cultural tolerance and an out queer artist who advocates for LGBT rights and visibility, Ms Mohammed is challenging prejudice through her music and we are happy to be her allies in the fight for equality.

WATCH: Complicated Animals – ‘Show Me’

A lush, dreamy set of visuals that’ll have you swaying under the nearest mirror ball, Brazilian/American duo Complicated Animals have shared a video for latest single ‘Show Me’. Formed of Monica da Silva and Chad Alger, the track encompasses a more electronic, synth-based feel and explores the complexities of pure human connection.

“’Show Me’ really struck me as an intense idea for a song,” explains vocalist da Silva. “It’s scary how detached we humans have become. Technology is great, but we’ve got to remember how important human interaction is, and not just go through the motions like zombies. For this song, Chad dug an old synthesizer we had out of the closet. We started stacking sounds and layering vocals. The production came together quickly, and virtually all of the sounds in the track were created using the same synth.”

P.S. Monica da Silva’s song ‘Back To His Girl’ is now featured in the Oscar-nominated movie Lady Bird. Go and see it!

WATCH: Pillow Queens – ‘Favourite’

Can’t decide what you love more: dogs or new music? Well, thanks to Dublin’s Pillow Queens you don’t have to. The indie band have shared a new video to accompany their recent single ‘Favourite’ and it’s a perfect combination of the two.

“The video was borne from the artistic insights of the wonderful Bob Gallagher, combined with our sheer passion and fondness for all things canine,” the band explain about their dog-tastic new offering. “The idea was to bring to life a work which followed the retro look of old Antiques Roadshow episodes and was heavily influenced by Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Best in Show and 80’s prom portraits or – in the case of this particular video – “pawtraits” of dogs and their owners. The National Show centre was the setting for the video while the individual “pawtraits” were shot in All Out Design Studios and feature a mixture of friends of the band and doggo-loving volunteers.”

‘Favourite’ is taken from Pillow Queens’ forthcoming EP State of The State, which is set to be released via Bristol-based label Specialist Subject on 16th March. The band will be touring the UK & Ireland to celebrate their new record, starting with a show at the Irish Cultural Centre on the 16th alongside Delorentos, Video Blue & TAYNE (RSVP here).
