Big Joanie sign to Kill Rock Stars & release 7″ single with Charmpit

Get In Her Ears are thrilled to share the news that Big Joanie have signed to iconic US riot grrrl label Kill Rock Stars! To mark the occasion, the trio will be releasing a 7″ split single with fellow feminist punks Charmpit titled Kluster Room Sessions, set for release on 27th November. Having both formed at First Timers Fest, Big Joanie and Charmpit have garnered a loyal and passionate following on the DIY underground scenes here in the UK. With this joint release on Kill Rock Stars, their punk infused sounds will be reaching wider, equally as passionate audiences in the US and beyond.

Kluster Room Sessions features an early recording of Big Joanie’s track ‘Cut Your Hair’ on the A side, and Charmpit’s single ‘Bad Attitude’ on the B side. “We leapt at the chance to do a split EP with Big Joanie because we love them,” explained Charmpit’s guitarist & vocalist Rhianydd YorkWilliams. “We’re so psyched to be working with Kill Rock Stars. They are a cool breeze to work with and we have so much love for what they do.”

After releasing their debut album Sistahs in 2018, Big Joanie are also planning to share their highly anticipated second record via Kill Rock Stars in 2021. “I grew up idolising practically every band on the Kill Rock Stars roster when I was a teenager,” explains Big Joanie’s guitarist & vocalist Stephanie Phillips. “We all have so much admiration for the work Kill Rock Stars has done and their influence on the punk scene. We’re so happy they can join us on this next journey of Big Joanie to help us reach new audiences.” Big Joanie’s 2021 second album will also be released in the UK and Europe via Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz’s label, Daydream Library Series.

Track Of The Day: Twist Helix -‘Vultures’

In a pulsing electro anthem, Newcastle-based Twist Helix make a smashing statement with their third single ‘Vultures’. With eager anticipation of their second studio album Machinery set to come out in November, Twist Helix deliver their listeners an undeniable tease of what catchiness is soon to come with their fall release.

Silky, chorus-like synths are the breath of ‘Vultures’, as the band lyrically depict some of the complexities and afflictions that stem from our music industry. The band explain: “as an artist you’re in an inherently vulnerable position that makes it very easy to be preyed upon.”

With so many layers to the meaning behind this statement made by the band, it is truly significant that this discussion be had on a creative practice where it is free to be both safe and light, as well as emotive. For Twist Helix, making a song dance worthy and energising is no matter of contention. With a tasteful blend of post pop melodies, relentless electronic beats, and the band’s cathartic lyrical experience, ‘Vultures’ illustrates its best self with sonic elements that are both shiny and shadowed. With a tasteful, experimental and lush execution, Twist Helix have left us with dancing feet and genuine eagerness with this latest offering.

Premiere: Mags on Earth – ‘The Good Man In Town’

Mags On Earth has now shared the first song and video from her upcoming debut album For What Began By Putney Bridge. Following last year’s EP Girl In The City, it’s a visual album about the journey of coming to terms with the loss of a relationship.

Flowing with twinkling hooks and a majestic, ethereal splendour, new single ‘The Good Man In Town’ fuses together an eclectic range of influences to create a beautifully melancholic, electro-tinged soundscape. A song about coping with being left acknowledging an idealisation of a significant other, it’s propelled by the shimmering emotion of the vocals, alongside glitchy effects; a truly dreamy offering, oozing an eerie aura of resplendent mystery.

Produced by good friend and long time collaborator producer Jose Manuel Cubides, you can stream ‘The Good Man In Town’ below.
