Track Of The Day – deep tan – ‘Air’

Currently making a name for themselves across the London live scene with their immersive live shows, Hackney trio deep tan have now shared their spellbinding new single.

Flowing with alluring, swirling hooks and rich, swooning vocals, accompanied by pounding beats, ‘Air’ is a beguiling slice of alt-pop, sparkling with a delicate hypnotic grace. With shades of early Warpaint, it interweaves layers of dreamy sounds, leaving it impossible not to become completely hooked on deep tan’s effervescent charm.

‘Air’s sparkling haze is depicted perfectly in the beautifully shot accompanying psychedelic video. The video’s directed by audio-visual sister duo Waterbaby, who explain:

The film captures the essence and free-spirited nature of the band and shows their strength, individuality and beauty prevailing in a world that often feels like a hoax… In a void like vacuum, the desire for truth is illustrated through movement, colour and feeling.”

Track Of The Day: BABii – ‘POiiSON’

A melancholy electronic exploration of a toxic relationship; Margate Producer BABii has shared her new single ‘POiiSON’, taken from her debut album HiiDE which is set for release on 5th July via Deathwaltz Originals.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Grimes, FKA Twigs and even JoJo and the Pocahontas soundtrack, BABii has been busy crafting her electronic pop beats over the last few years. She played 7 shows in 5 days at this year’s SXSW Festival, and she’s set play shows across the UK to celebrate the release of her debut album this July.

Speaking about her new track ‘POiiSON’, BABii EXPLAINS:”[It’s] about being in a toxic relationship but just ignoring the fact that is not good or not working. I also wanted it to sonically sound like the feeling of being poisoned.” We’ve certainly been intoxicated by BABii’s catchy, impressive beats.

Track Of The Day: Harlea – ’99’

Harlea’s ’99’ recalls the visceral thrill of first hearing Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die album. The song conveys a similar all encompassing, cinematic feel even as it avoids straying into full “Gangsta Nancy Sinatra” territory.

Given the Americana on display here, the name Harlea feels like no accident for this Birmingham born, LA based pop star. Even if her performing name isn’t a nod to the Harley Davidson or to Marlon Brando and classic Hollywood films like The Wild One, it still feels an apt choice of moniker for the all encompassing muscular pop melodrama soundscapes she is creating.

Halsey seemed to pick up the Born To Die baton for a bit but, judging from ’99′, she’s passed it on to Harlea. From the sound of it, the new star is more than ready to take on the next stretch of this pop race.

’99’ is out now.

Get In Her Ears @ Notting Hill Arts Club w/ ANNAVR 22.06.19

The sun was shining bright yesterday, but that didn’t deter us from venturing in to the basement of Notting Hill Arts Club to discover the hypnotic alt-pop sounds of three very different artists: ANNAVR, Zoey Lily & Death Hags.

The task of opening the night fell to LA based artist Death Hags, who delivered her dark, sci-fi inspired sounds beneath flickering stage lights. Her understated but confident delivery meant the obscurities of tracks such as ‘Oublie Moi’ and ‘Electrochemical Communication’ could be fully appreciated by listeners as she performed her one woman show.

Zoey Lily took to the stage next to perform her melancholy pop sounds. The London-based newcomer charmed listeners with her soft, elegant vocals and impressed them with renditions of her singles ‘I Wish I Had A Heart’ and ‘Hate You’. She looked especially pleased when the crowd participated in singing along to one of her tracks too.

Headlining the night and performing for her first time in London, Berlin-based producer ANNAVR melted us with her luscious electronic soundscapes. Originally a classically trained pianist, ANNAVR’s skills have transcended the pop barrier and have blossomed in to a mix of uplifting and distracting sounds. Between songs she spoke about how she relied on music whilst growing up in Berlin to express herself and to take her to new places, and we were proud to give her a platform to share her sounds and her stories.

Huge thanks to the bands, sound engineer and the staff at Notting Hill Arts Club for your help. Keep your eyes peeled for more gig announcements from us soon!
