PREMIERE: Priestess – ‘Shelter’

Originally formed in London by Kate Fleur Young, and with the added input of producers James Mottershead, Jack Drewry and Oli Kilpatrick, Priestess has now shared a spellbinding new single. 

Reflecting on the impact of deep, and sometimes destructive, love, ‘Shelter’ provides a soaring, ethereal soundscape. Propelled by glitchy beats and whirring hooks, a swirling haunting majesty flows alongside the deep, bewitching splendour of Young’s rich sensual vocals. Captivating the ears with its exquisite dark energy, it’s a soulful slice of introspective electro-pop, perfectly capturing the intoxicating feeling of being overwhelmed with emotion. A poignant sonic portrayal of “when love feels like a beautiful and dangerous storm”.

PREMIERE: The Other Ones – ‘Forever Young’

Following the blistering energy of their recent eponymously named single, London-based The Other Ones have returned to blast into our ears with a brand new offering.

Propelled by jangling guitars and front-woman Steph’s swooning, gritty vocals, ‘Forever Young’ reflects on that sense of yearning we all have, now more than ever, for younger, care-free days. With a swirling, euphoric energy and racing beats, it oozes a sunny sense of nostalgia as honey-sweet harmonies and scuzz-filled riffs create an irresistibly catchy slice of shimmering punk-pop. Of the track, the band explain:

“‘Forever Young’ is a song about yearning – about wanting to run away from a humdrum existence, going for a drive with your best friend, throwing caution to the wind, and living for yourself. It’s hard to capture that feeling of limitless wonder from childhood, but when you have the right person with you, anything feels possible.“

PREMIERE: Potpourri – ‘Modern Girls’

Following lush singles ‘Postcards’ and ‘Eisenhower’, Sheffield band Potpourri are back with a brand new twinkling festive offering.

Pondering the idealism of a perfect Christmas amid the bounty of priceless love, ‘Modern Girls’ flows with soaring celestial vocals amongst shimmering keys and a scuzzy, sweeping energy. Propelled by a swirling, sparkling majesty, it oozes a blissful euphoric aura, whilst maintaining a refreshing sense of realism. A perfect and relatable Christmas accompaniment for any of us ‘Modern Girls’. Of the track, songwriter Lauren Dowling reflects:

“I guess I was thinking about the modern phenomenon of gift-giving as a language of love, but also as a point of contention. Whilst we’re more inclined to be charitable at this time of year, we also can’t escape our own expectations for grandeur and luxury, but for ‘Modern Girls’, it’s the former that tends to bring the most joy and warmth.”

As part of this release, the band will be donating all proceeds from the track to Burngreave Foodbank and SAYiT. SAYiT’s aim is to create an environment that supports the emotional and sexual wellbeing of young people and empowers LGBT+ young people to transform their own lives and that of their peers by addressing issues of awareness, developing knowledge and addressing organisational discrimination and inequality. Burngreave Foodbank  provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

Premiere: pink suits – ‘Fake Great Britain’

Having first formed back in 2017, Margate based queer punk-rock duo pink suits incorporate politically driven rage, dance and even theatre into their work, exploring issues of sexuality, mental health and a resistance of binary gender. Having just announced their debut album, ‘Political Child’, they have now shared a brand new riotous single.

Propelled by a frenzied, angst-driven power and scuzzy hooks, ‘Fake Great Britain’ hits you with its raw, punk-fuelled lyricism raging against austerity and the fake ‘great’ ideals of a post-Brexit UK. With a seething, ferocious passion, it’s a rallying cry against this government and the intolerance it promotes, its lies and the detrimental effects it’s had on all of our mental health. A totally necessary listen, it’s a perfect riotous catharsis; an immense formidable force calling us to arms in these terrifying times. A queer punk anthem inciting us to get up, make our voices heard and fight fascism with all our might. (It’s also catchy as f**K – an instant earworm that you need in your ears now).

‘Fake Great Britain’ is accompanied by a wonderfully vibrant, poignantly pink-themed video – a perfect depiction of the inclusive Feminist rebellion that pink suits urge us to unite in to bring about radical change.
