EP: Drahla – ‘Third Article’

Fans of Sonic Youth and all things alternative to should invest in the debut EP from Leeds three-piece Drahla. The band have released ‘Third Article’ (Produced by Hookworms’ MJ) through their own label Blank Ad; and it’s a sterling cacophony of noise-rock sounds that’ll have you trapped in a 90s alt-nostalgia spiral.

The fast-paced ‘Form Of Luxury’ opens the EP with its restless percussion and jaded vocals, and you’ll “form a line” in preparation for the track’s breakdown which boasts manic riffs and hefty bass. On second track ‘Silk Spirit’, Luciel Brown’s voice sits comfortably above the delightful drone whilst she sings of “walking in the desert” in Kim Gordon-esque style, as reverb and feedback simultaneously clash and combine to make this the stand-out track on the EP.

The penultimate ‘Circuit’ is a brief spiral of noise that leads in to aggressive closing track ‘New Living Creation’. It’s the perfect conclusion to this short but satisfying series of impressive strung-out sounds. ‘The Third Article’ is available to stream via Spotify or Apple Music, and available to purchase on vinyl via Bandcamp. We recommend you invest in Drahla now.

Track Of The Day: Sorry – ‘Wished’

A stirring cacophony of alternative noise, London-based trio Sorry (fka FISH) have shared their latest single ‘Wished’. Formed of Asha Lorenz, Louis O’Bryen, Lincoln Barrett and Campbell Baum, the band have been making a name for themselves on London’s underground circuit since 2015 and their “emotional, hyper-melodic songwriting” has seen them share stages with the likes of Wolf Alice and Dream Wife.

‘Wished’ is the band’s debut studio recording and follows the recent self-release Home Demo(ns) Vol. 1. Recorded by Sean Oakley (Rick Rubin, Frank Ocean) and mixed by Andrew Savours (My Bloody Valentine), the new single is also accompanied by a b-side titled ‘Lies’, which is set to arrive later this month. Both tracks will be packaged together on Sorry’s very first 7” vinyl release on Domino, available to pre-order here.

Sorry will embark on a full U.K. tour supporting South London’s Childhood on November 16th, before ending 2017 with their biggest headline show to date at Corsica Studios in London on December 5th. Check out the video for ‘Wished’ (directed by India Lee) below.

Track Of The Day: Projector – ‘Love’

Brace your ears for the swirling sounds of Brighton trio Projector‘s new single ‘Love’. It’s a gritty, sultry, reverb-soaked affair with a stylish accompanying video that shows the band performing live and looking painfully cool in the process.

We’ve been hooked on the sounds of Lucy, Demelza & Edward since we saw them live at DOLLS’ single launch in October, and their Sonic-Youth-meets-Bloody-Valentine vibes have been buzzing around our brains ever since.

The band will be playing at KidBrother’s single launch at The Monarch on the 7th November (RSVP here), as well as a headline show at New Cross Inn in January (event details here) so make sure you head down to see them if you’re free. Watch the video for ‘Love’ below and follow Projector on Facebook for more updates.

‘Love’ is available to download now.
