WATCH: The Big Moon – ‘Your Light’

The Big Moon prove they’re as talented on two wheels as they are on two feet in their video for latest track ‘Your Light’. The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album Walking Like We Do, which is set for release on 10th January 2020 via Fiction Records.

With its catchy chorus, buoyant melodies and feel-good lyrics; ‘Your Light’ is the perfect boost for anyone who’s feeling blue about the current state of affairs. The band performed their synchronized cycling in the video in the Essex countryside, and they look at ease singing along to their brand new tune.

Speaking about the track, vocalist and songwriter Juliette Jackson explains: “This song is about freeing yourself from all of it, just for a moment. It’s a thanks to the one person or thing in your life that knows how to come in and open your curtains and light up the darkness and restore your strength so that when you clatter back down into the real world you have the strength to fight your battles, whatever they are.”

LISTEN: The Big Moon – ‘It’s Easy Then’

“‘It’s Easy Then’ is really about finding strength in strange times” explains Juliette Jackson, vocalist & lyricist for formidable indie-rock group The Big Moon. “I wanted to write a song that made me feel better. Something that captured the frustrations, but also the hope and joy all at the same time” – and that’s exactly what the band have achieved with their first piece of new music in over two years.

‘It’s Easy Then’ is a lush three minutes of escapism via grand keys and breezy vocals. It’s softer than the band’s previous singles – all lifted from their 2017 Mercury Prize nominated debut Love In The 4th Dimension – but it still retains the trademark Big Moon charm with its relatable lyrics and leftfield pop melodies. The track was recorded in Atlanta with Grammy Award winning US producer Ben H. Allen III (M.I.A, Deerhunter, Bombay Bicycle Club).

Juliette extrapolates on the single’s themes of breaking away from negativity: “We work too much, we think too much, we know too much so we all worry too much. Our anxieties are stoked every day. Music has this incredible way of helping us see with a new perspective, and ties up our feelings in a way that language by itself never could”. We couldn’t agree more. LIVE: The Big Moon – Omeara, NME Awards Nominations Party, 17.01.18

They may have based their bitter-sweet single ‘Happy New Year’ around memory loss, but The Big Moon‘s set at Omeara on Wednesday night was far from forgettable. The band played the intimate venue as part of the NME Awards Nominations Party, and their garage-rock tunes and contagious enthusiasm kept the crowd bouncing from start to finish.

Introduced by NME Deputy Editor Tom Howard as “really great, and a little bit tipsy,” the band kicked things off with summery anthem ‘Silent Movie Susie’. What followed was a set-list brimming with tracks from their Mercury Prize nominated debut album, Love In The 4th Dimension.

Established singles like ‘The Road’ and ‘Sucker’ sounded as fresh as ever, whilst newer releases ‘Formidable’, ‘Cupid’ & ‘Pull The Other One’ were delivered with precision and charm. The riotous ‘Bonfire’ was the clear fan favourite, and when vocalist Juliette broke the fourth wall and made her way in to the middle of the crowd – their faces lit up.

The Omeara show marked the band’s first gig of 2018 and they thanked fans for coming out to join them on their “rusty roller-coaster”. As an unexpected treat, they covered Bonnie Tyler’s classic ballad ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ in their own joyful, laid-back style, before closing their set with ‘Sucker’. The Big Moon have an enviable ability to charm and impress a crowd with their relatable indie tunes and they left everyone* (*us) with heart-shaped eyes at the end of the night.
