Track Of The Day: Gold Baby – ‘Feed It’

Gold Baby is a brand new indie-rock band based in East London, formed by singer-songwriter, Siân Alex, and her friends Sam (from GIHE faves Long Teeth), Andrew, and Ian. Their first track ‘Feed It’ is out today, and we’re super excited to hear it. If you like fresh vocals, interesting lyrics, and cool guitars that you can shake a leg to, then you will love this.

Kicking off with a catchy hook to get you in the mood, you instantly know that you’re about to be taken on an exciting rollercoaster ride. The excitement builds with Siân’s sumptuous vocals, packing a powerful emotional punch, with the lyrics unfolding as the scuzzy guitars carry it along.

It’s a happy/sad song, with Siân defiantly singing to us about those introspective times in life, where we feed it (“the little voice of misery”). As the guitar lifts up between verses, a feeling of sunny empowerment is fuelled, and you’re left feeling happy to have discovered this promising new band; anticipating more from them to ‘feed’ your musical appetite.

‘Feed It’ is out now.

Track Of The Day: NADINE – ‘Ultra Pink’

Creating melodies that transcend acoustics, Minneapolis/New York trio NADINE have just released their sophisticated debut album Oh My.

Taken from the album comes new single ‘Ultra Pink’. Oozing the soulful vocals of frontwoman Nadia Hullet (Phantom Posse) and a contagious funk-fused groove, the track is a playful and uptempo offering that’ll get your feet moving and pulse racing in an instant. Filled with twinkling hooks and a jazz-tinged, layered musicality, it’s a totally dreamy and utterly infectious slice of alt-pop.

Oh My, the debut album from NADINE, is out 26th January 2018 via Memphis Industries. Pre-order here.

Track Of The Day: Permahorn – ‘Into The Dreams (Slut)’

As songs go, it doesn’t get much more forbidding than this. London-based duo Permahorn – consisting of the Scottish-Serbian mix of Saint Pauly and Jexy Pesic – anticipate the release of debut My Blood Carries My Dreams Away with a track that’s just like a clear winter’s evening – as alluring as it is dark.

The influence of Low pervades ‘Into the Dreams’s whirling guitar intro, never far from falling into a minor key, and its bleepy, glitchy ending. Perhaps that’s not too surprising, given the influence of its producer, Kramer, the “godfather of slowcore”, who worked on the Minnesotans’ second album Long Division.

The vocals on this track are pure Nico deadpan with the hint of a snarl, but with the backing of the likes of Morphine or Galaxie 500. Listening to it and allowing yourself to soak up its gloomy sparkle leaves you with the same feelings as watching a David Lynch film: beguiled, bewildered and oddly sated.

My Blood Carries My Dreams Away,
the upcoming album from Permahorn, is out 1st December 2017 via Shimmy-500.
