Video Premiere: MALMØ – ‘No Words’

Following 2018’s critically acclaimed debut album We Come From The Stars, and with acclaim from the likes of BBC 6Music and KEXP, Danish artist Maria Malmoe, aka MALMØ, has now shared her new single, ahead of her upcoming second album this summer.

Propelled by glitchy beats and Maria’s (and her her sister Frida’s) sweeping ethereal vocals, ‘No Words’ reflects on the damage we do to the environment on a daily basis – how we’re too reliant on the artificial, at a great cost to the natural world, and to ourselves. With an exquisite, captivating majesty, a shimmering, spellbinding soundscape is created. A beautifully poignant, and delicately cathartic, rumination on the world today and how we all need to take action to save it.

Video Premiere: GracieSouz – ‘Before, An Apparition’

Following the sweeping sounds of ‘Brian Cox’, and having been charming our ears for sometime as front woman of GIHE faves KIN, Grace Strickland de Souza – aka GracieSouz – has been establishing her reputation over the last few months, with over 200k streams on Spotify, and has now shared a poignant new single.

Propelled by a soaring, haunting majesty, ‘Before, An Apparition’ explores themes of memory, transient moments and perseverance with a glistening, emotion-strewn splendour. As pulsating beats build with an industrial, glitchy energy to a frenzied, cinematic climax, the stirring celestial grace of the vocals create a truly captivating shimmering allure. An exquisite slice of electro-driven brooding alt-pop, this latest offering showcases GracieSouz as an innovative artist on the rise.

PREMIERE: Potpourri – ‘Modern Girls’

Following lush singles ‘Postcards’ and ‘Eisenhower’, Sheffield band Potpourri are back with a brand new twinkling festive offering.

Pondering the idealism of a perfect Christmas amid the bounty of priceless love, ‘Modern Girls’ flows with soaring celestial vocals amongst shimmering keys and a scuzzy, sweeping energy. Propelled by a swirling, sparkling majesty, it oozes a blissful euphoric aura, whilst maintaining a refreshing sense of realism. A perfect and relatable Christmas accompaniment for any of us ‘Modern Girls’. Of the track, songwriter Lauren Dowling reflects:

“I guess I was thinking about the modern phenomenon of gift-giving as a language of love, but also as a point of contention. Whilst we’re more inclined to be charitable at this time of year, we also can’t escape our own expectations for grandeur and luxury, but for ‘Modern Girls’, it’s the former that tends to bring the most joy and warmth.”

As part of this release, the band will be donating all proceeds from the track to Burngreave Foodbank and SAYiT. SAYiT’s aim is to create an environment that supports the emotional and sexual wellbeing of young people and empowers LGBT+ young people to transform their own lives and that of their peers by addressing issues of awareness, developing knowledge and addressing organisational discrimination and inequality. Burngreave Foodbank  provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

VIDEO PREMIERE: The Pearl Harts – ‘Pullin’ My Brains Out’

Full of raucous guitar riffs, thudding beats and hefty vocals, London-based duo The Pearl Harts have shared a video for their new live single ‘Pullin’ My Brains Out’. Taken from the band’s new EP Live At The Drive-In, which they’ve released today (11th Dec), the single is accompanied by a monochrome video shot during the band’s post-lockdown drive-in show earlier this year.

The Pearl Harts – like most bands – were hit hard when the covid-19 pandemic put a stop to live music in March. As a band who have spent years cutting their teeth on the live circuit, the idea of performing from their bedrooms via Zoom didn’t feel quite right for Kirsty and Sara. So, once Lockdown 1.0 was lifted, the duo decided to put together a “dystopian drive-in” gig in South London. Teaming up with their friends VC London – the UK’s only all-female motorcycle crew – they set up a stage in an industrial yard and unleashed their raucous rock and roll sounds on to a socially distanced crowd.

Whilst recording this new EP briefly quenched the band’s thirst for playing live to an audience, The Pearl Harts are hoping that in 2021 things will be a little different. “[While we were] no longer able to write and play together in the same space, we embraced technology [which] allowed us to write songs remotely for a new album that we’re really excited about,” the duo explain. Here’s hoping we’ll be hearing this new record in the flesh as soon as it’s safe to do so again.
