Track Of The Day: SPELLLING – ‘Hard To Please’

Brand new Sacred Bones signee SPELLLING (aka Tia Cabral) has shared her latest single ‘Hard To Please’ and unlike its namesake: it’s a cool electronic balm for the ears. The track is accompanied by an intriguing video (produced by Laneya Billingsley aka Billie0cean) which sets out to “animate the fantasies of the heart high on desire”.

‘Hard To Please’ is taken from SPELLLING’s forthcoming 7” of the same name, coupled with ‘My Other Voice’ (a cover of Sparks’ 1979 symphonic disco track), and is set for release on August 3rd. Speaking of the track, SPELLLING says: “‘Hard to Please’ and ‘My Other Voice’ pair together to reflect on bittersweet passions of an obsessive romance; ‘Hard to Please’ swells through the excitement and pain of yearning to please a lover who cannot be satisfied with “eyes of winter” but a promising “heart of spring”.

SPELLLING’s dream-like visions and explorations of divine emotions are sure to please the ears of the passionate and the lovesick. Watch the video for ‘Hard To Please’ below and follow SPELLLING on Facebook for more updates.

PREMIERE: Cerian – ‘Wasteland’ (ft. Robert Taira Wilson)

‘Wasteland’ is the debut single from London-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Cerian. It’s the first single to be released from her upcoming EP, Caught in the Dark – a series of songs written in the middle of the night.

A self-confessed “lifelong insomniac”, Cerian’s profoundly personal songs have grown out of her struggle with both the literal and internal darkness felt in the isolation of the early hours of the morning. Frustration and fear have come together in a calm, emotional union on ‘Wasteland’, on which her call & response vocals are matched beautifully with Robert Taira Wilson’s.

Of the track, Cerian explains: “In the dead of the night, terrifying existentialism takes over: seemingly frozen in time, you feel unable to traverse the space between where you are and where you want to be. The precipice of the unknown future is calling, but you don’t know if you’re going to fly or fall, if you can find the courage to jump.”

Fortunately, Cerian found the courage to write, produce, and create all the accompanying images and visuals to accompany ‘Wasteland’. She’s also been involved in numerous collaborations with the likes of U2, Radiohead, Sam Smith, Imogen Heap, Charlotte Church, Laura Mvula and Amber Run. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also proved her work ethic and talent further by performing at Glastonbury Festival, Bush Hall and two sold-out headline shows at The National Portrait Gallery.

With a series of shows planned in the UK, Europe and America this year, Cerian is set to for more big things. Listen to ‘Wasteland’ below, and follow Cerian on Facebook for more updates.

Track Of The Day: Nova Twins – ‘Lose Your Head’

A lesson in cutting loose and walking on the wild side, London-based duo Nova Twins have shared a video for their latest track ‘Lose Your Head’. Adorned in neon make-up and customised boiler suits, Amy & Georgia blast through this mind-melter of a track in the accompanying visuals, proving there’s no limit to their creative potential.

Praised by Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Nova Twins’ abrasive, genre-defying tunes are consistent favourites here at Get In Her Ears and ‘Lose Your Head’ is no exception. It’s a sonic spiral of distorted bass lines, lethal vocals and thunderous beats that fizzes with a unique punk-infused energy.

“Flipping punk rock on its head, ‘Lose Your Head’ is a rejection of off-the-peg opinions,2 the duo explain about the track. “It’s a rallying cry and a celebration of difference, an invitation to walk your own path. We want to open people’s minds and invite them to the wild side.”

Nova Twins will be touring throughout the summer across the UK, Europe and America. They’ll also be headlining Loud Women’s night at The Lexington on August 18th (tickets here)
