Track Of The Day: Fallulah – ‘Light My Fire’ (The Doors Cover)

We’re partial to a beautiful cover song here at Get In Her Ears, and Denmark artist Fallulah‘s rendition of The Doors’ classic ‘Light My Fire’ has made our knees weak with its sultry vocals and atmospheric keys.

The song is part of an interesting, powerful project called ‘Instant Love’, where both emerging and established female musicians reinterpret classic love songs originally sung by men about women, re-imagined and without changing the gender. Tracks have been revealed on a monthly basis to great appeal in the US which has lead to the album, Instant Love: Volume 1, being announced for release worldwide in January 2018.

Highlights from the project include Erika Spring’s (Au Revoir Simone) version of Donavan classic ‘Colours’ and Nicole Atkins’ re-work of Ryan Adams’ ‘Amy’. The project will be continuing throughout 2018 with new music and releases and we can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

Get In Her Ears Live at The Finsbury w/ The Magnettes, 10.11.17

Following a host of super amazing bands playing for us over the last year – including H.Grimace, REWS, Trash Kit, The Empty Page, Kid Cupid and Deux Furieuses – we were back at The Finsbury last Friday for our monthly dose of incredible live music.

Kicking off the night is the utterly captivating, and truly dreamy, sounds of Carolyn’s Fingers. With their haunting, ethereal splendour, they cast a spell over us all in an instant.

Next up we’re privileged to host DIDI with her first full band show. Oozing all the energy-fuelled, empowering vibes and punk-pop joy, it’s a truly uplifting set – and hopefully the first of many that this collective have to offer.

Having travelled down from Birmingham to play for us, penultimate artist of the night MeMe Detroit delivers all the reverb-strewn riffs and gritty, soulful vocals you could ever desire. With a unique sonic force, and an incredible rousing magnetism, she delivers a wonderfully raucous set.

Drawing the night to a close is something we’ve been extremely excited about: we’re honoured that The Magnettes have travelled all the way from Sweden for Get In Her Ears! Set on crushing the patriarchy with their own unique brand of ‘fuck-pop’, the trio succeed in completely blowing us away. Steeped in a Riot Grrrl-inspired passion, with added sparkly pop sensibilities, donning their matching ‘Psycho Witch’ cheer-leading outfits, front-women Rebecka and Sanna treat us to something truly memorable and a little bit spooky; with fun-filled energy and empowering force in equal measure, it’s the perfect end to the night.

Huge thanks to the four bands who played for us! And don’t miss our next night at The Finsbury on 8th December, when we’ll have Temples Of Youth, Chorusgirl, HMS Morris and The Gravity Drive – another unmissable lineup!

EP: Nova Twins – ‘Mood Swings’

Whatever mood you find yourself in, we guarantee Nova Twins‘ new EP is going to swing it around. The duo have followed up their self-titled debut with a knockout set of new tracks on Mood Swings, and the duo are sounding as loud and as lethal as ever.

Driven by devious and distorted bass lines, Nova Twins – aka Amy & Georgia – have an unrivaled instinct for writing anarchic anthems. Eponymous opening track ‘Mood Swings’ is a warped reflection of swift emotional shifts that will be buzzing around your brain long after it’s stopped playing. It leads in to the upbeat ‘Strange Towns’ with a chorus so catchy you’ll be singing it out loud as you parade around the streets.

Things take a heavier turn on ‘Losing Sleep’, a defiant three minutes of menacing bass lines, fiery vocals and wicked little guitar riffs. The aptly named ‘Elephant’ closes the EP with more of Nova Twins’ ferocious, uncompromising rhythms and it’s a stomper of a track that will bring the house down when the pair headline Camden Assembly at the end of November (tickets are still available here).

Wherever you are – stop what you’re doing, put Nova Twins on and let the sound of Mood Swings grind you down to dust.
