WATCH: Noga Erez – ‘Cash Out’ (feat. SAMMUS)

Noga Erez has shared a set of brutal but fascinating new visuals to accompany her latest single ‘Cash Out’. Co-starring Philadelphia rapper SAMMUS, the video was directed by Hen Makhluf and conceived by Erez and her collaborator Ori Rousso.

The visuals tell the story of a society without men, where women are left to fend for themselves, pitting against each other in punishing street-fights. It brings the track’s context about the contradicting pressures piled on women through consumerist society to life, with stunning clarity.

Speaking about the new video, Erez explains: “We tell a story about a society of women left in a world without men. Specifically, focusing on a group who arrange street fighting meet-ups – fights for the mere joy and rush of adrenaline. In that female-only world we imagine the behaviour of the women and how much of the societal female characteristics remain and what’s lost.”

“The [song’s] intention is to list out things that can make you a successful woman, in the most twisted, chauvinistic way. What society’s version is contradicts itself (eat breakfast, not too much), and is derived from the image of well-being and wealth that is presented to us alongside commercials about food, food porn etc. It all sums up a person feeling that their mind is exploding from consuming everything that we are fed by society and advertising companies.”

Alongside SAMMUS’ blistering raps – “I can handle many scandals like I am the Pope, not the sistine’s / What I can’t do is dismantle every single trope in our histories.” – Erez’s message is more powerful ad relevant than ever. Introducing Interview: Majestic Minds

Having just released their debut single as new collaborative duo Majestic Minds, producer Haides and singer-songwriter Marlie have, between them, previously received praise from the likes of Magnetic Magazine, The DJ List and Music Ninja.

Now, with the release of the slick, soulful sounds of ‘Oxygen’, hope to win over fans with their mesmerising blend of nostalgic feel-good tunes and unique take on UK dance.

We caught up with Majestic Minds to find out more…

Hi Majestic Minds, welcome to Get In Her Ears! Can you tell us a bit about the band?
Hello! Majestic Minds consists of two people, myself (Haides) and Marlie. We are relatively new as a duo but we have been working in the music industry individually for a few years now.

How did you initially all get together and start creating music?
We had a session together which was put together by mutual management and we just started making music and putting some ideas down. It wasn’t till a little later that we found a sound that we both liked and could draw from the same musical influences.

Your new single ‘Oxygen’ is out now – can you tell us what it’s all about?
So, this song is about needing someone in your life as a necessity just like you need oxygen and water. Initially the original song we created was much slower and more emotional, then after listening to it a few times we took the vocal by itself and sped it up over a Garage beat. The track then developed a whole new feel. With the combination of an emotional top line mixed with a beat that makes you want to dance, we knew we were on to something and had to release it!

You’ve been compared to the likes of Flume and Artful Dodger, but who would you say are your main musical influences?
We have both grown up listening to all genres of music. We found a common ground when we were discussing old house and garage tracks that gave us nostalgia upon listening to them. So for ‘Oxygen’ we drew influence from artists like Craig David, Disclosure and MJ Cole.

How is your local music scene? Do you go to see lots of live music?
We live in different parts of London (Croydon & Streatham), but there is always something going on whether it’s at Box Park or somewhere in central. I (Haides) like to see a lot of DJs playing so I mainly go to club nights in London.

And what can fans expect from your live shows?
Energy!

As we’re a new music focused site, are there any new/upcoming bands or artists you’d recommend we check out?
We would recommend Dom McAllister and Iyamah. They are some of our favourites at the moment.

And how do you feel the music industry is for new bands at the moment – would you say it’s difficult to get noticed?
It’s hard for everyone to get noticed. There are so many people making music these days whether they are an artist, songwriter, producer or musician – making good music is only one part of it. You have to connect with the right people and develop a loyal fan base from the word go to make sure that when opportunities do come, you and your music are ready.

Finally, what does the rest of 2018 have in store for Majestic Minds?

We have four more tracks from our debut EP still to come, but we will be playing in London at some point in the near future to present our EP. We also have our own individual projects that we are working on at the moment too,, but we will be back in the studio again very soon to take Majestic Minds to the next level!

Huge thanks to Majestic Minds for answering our questions!

WATCH: Ah! Kosmos – ‘Wide’ (feat. Özgür Yılmaz)

A mesmerising montage of striking, sensual images make up the new visuals for Ah! Kosmos‘s new video ‘Wide’. The track is taken from her upcoming second album Beautiful Swamp, which is set for release on October 5th via Compost Records.

Born in Istanbul and now based in Berlin, Ah! Kosmos (aka Başak Günak) is a sound designer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. She sweeps listeners up in to a rapture with her intense soundscapes filled with rhythmic guitar melodies, and her collaboration with guitarist Özgür Yılmaz on ‘Wide’ is another stunning example of this.

The breathtaking new video – directed by Berlin-based artist Harun Güler – perfectly compliments the track’s atmospheric guitar, captivating percussion and hypnotic vocals. The visuals provide further insight in to her upcoming album Beautiful Swamp, as Ah! Kosmos explains: “Swamp as an image represents this album’s process. Sinking into the step that I’m taking, and taking the next move from that sunken space. The ground was pulling me in and this slowly let me find my sensibility, softness, flexibility and also power”. This flexibility and power has been developing since her 2015 debut record Bastards, and we can’t wait to see where it takes her sound next.

WATCH: She Drew The Gun – ‘Resister’

She Drew The Gun uses body paint and bright lights to rev things up in her new video for latest single ‘Resister’. The track is a measured but rallying cry to persevere in the face of adversity, and is taken from her upcoming album Revolution Of Mind (due to be released on October 5th via Skeleton Key Records).

‘Resister’ hosts buzzing guitar riffs, persistent percussion and lyrics fused with empowering messages. Guitarist & songwriter Louisa Roach says the new record is permeated by themes of “Empowerment; arming yourself with knowledge; questioning the status quo…” and her new video is further proof of her determination to keep on resisting any forces that try to oppress her.

Produced by James Skelly (The Coral) at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios, Revolution Of Mind is set to be another powerful collection of songs from this affluent and informed songwriter. She Drew The Gun will return to the live scene following the release of their album, supporting The Coral on all dates of their UK tour.
