Track Of The Day: LOTIC – ‘Hunted’

Described as a “high-camp, very abstract take on Queen of the Damned meets Lost Boys,” Berlin-based Lotic has shared a new video for their single ‘Hunted’. Directed by Matt Lambert who gave the above explanation, the dark, sensual, delightfully disturbing set of visuals are the perfect accompaniment to Lotic’s altruistic sound.

The opening lyrics to ‘Hunted’ – “brown skin / masculine frame / head’s a target / actin’ real feminine / make ’em vomit” – provided the perfect context for Lambert’s video: “We had this spontaneous idea of a cursed deity whose strength and sexual energy is fuelled by the souls of bougie white boys they seduced, and then murdered ritualistically in a small beach resort town.” This gritty backdrop is made all the more alluring by Lotic’s mesmerising beats and well-crafted electronics.

‘Hunted’ will feature on Lotic’s debut album Power, which is set to be released via Tri Angle Records on 13th July. “It originally started as an empowerment album,” explains Lotic. “I felt that I needed to offer something outside of myself, as sort of a healing moment.” Power will also be released on limited edition vinyl, housed in a die cut sleeve designed by Marwan Kaabour and will feature a vinyl only exclusive track called ‘Burn A Print’.

Track Of The Day: Nasty Little Lonely – ‘Wicked Vicious’

A menacing blend of devious bass lines and venomous vocals, Bristol-based post-punks Nasty Little Lonely have shared their new single ‘Wicked Vicious’. It’s the third single the band have released through Liverpool label, Loner Noise.

The song is an “anti-ode to two faced people, comparing the effects of negativity to unconsciously doing black magic”. Together, guitarist Ben, drummer Martin & vocalist and bassist Charlie have worked to create a spine-slicing new track and the accompanying visuals are as malign as they are mesmerising.

Nasty Little Lonely have performed alongside Future of the Left, Damo Suzuki, The Wytches, Idles, Part Chimp, Gnod, Mugstar, God Damn, Bo Ningen, Kagoule & Lydia Lunch and will be on the road again soon.

Track of the Day: AyOwA – ‘Alt Det Du Ku’

AyOwA are without a doubt my favourite Danish act. I’m a true sucker for a claustrophobic synth jam, and these two more than deliver on that front, each and every time. This is their new single ‘Alt Det Du Ku’ released via Music For Dreams and taken from their upcoming EP Goodbye. This track is still a distinctly electronic track with the modular synths and old tape machines but there is also an exploration into the acoustic. A song about standing between break-ups and breakthroughs and in the abstract of looking forward to the future whilst being back in time simultaneously.

The rhythm is feverishly infectious and with those haunting vocals sung in Danish by Hannah Schneider, ‘Alt Det Du Ku’ kidnaps your attention and holds you captive right to the end.

‘Alt Det Du Ku’ is out now, check out AyOwA’s socials for more music and updates.

Track Of The Day: Dott – ‘Bleached Blonde’

The perfect soundtrack for those who love sunshine, surfing and super-catchy garage pop anthems, Galway’s Dott have shared their latest single ‘Bleached Blonde’. The track is taken from their upcoming album Heart Swell, which is set for release via Graveface Records on 8th June.

If you’ve ever tried to surf on an ironing board (watch the video, you’ll understand), you’ll sympathise with guitarist & vocalist Anna’s struggle when it comes to catching waves. “‘Bleached Blonde” is about trying, failing and surfing,” she explains. “I’ve been doing a lot of all three since I moved back to Ireland from Toronto last year and became obsessed with the sea. I went on a solo trip to Lahinch in County Clare last summer and rented a cottage where I could surf and write songs for this album. Naturally, themes of the sea started to appear in the songs and Bleached Blonde was written in that cottage. The song is about how much I enjoy surfing despite not really being very good at it”.

Dott are making waves with their music, and have appeared at international festivals such as SXSW, CMJ and CMW, as well as Irish Festivals Electric Picnic, Indiependence, Camden Crawl and Westport Fest. They’ve toured with and opened for Shellac, La Luz, Hinds, Chastity Belt, Sad13 and Honeyblood.
