Track Of The Day: Cozy Slippers – ‘Not Hard To Say Goodbye’

Having started when Barbara Barrilleaux and Sarah Engel met at ‘Ladies Rock Camp’, a weekend event that brings women together to learn to play instruments and form bands, Seattle based Cozy Slippers have since recruited guitarist Steven Skelton and are now set to release their second EP.

Taken from the EP, new single ‘Not Hard To Say Goodbye’ is a perfect slice of jangly indie-pop. Filled with sweeping luscious harmonies and twinkling hooks, it oozes a gentle romanticism and sunny, heartfelt joy. A musically layered and lyrically rich offering, it’s guaranteed to brighten even the darkest of days.

Postcards, the new EP from Cozy Slippers, was mixed by Dylan Wall (Hibou, Tangerine, Craft Spells, High Sunn), and is out 20th April on Jigsaw Records.

WATCH: Valeska Rautenberg – ‘Midnight Children’

Born in East Berlin to artistic parents, independent musician Valeska Rautenberg felt destined to tread a creative path. After studying at Universities and pursuing musical collaborations, she began creating her own music, and now Valeska has shared her new single ‘Midnight Children’.

Released on 5th March, it’s the first single to be shared from her upcoming EP, Aerial Minds. “It’s a song for all the night addicts and over-thinkers, the brooders, introverts, and the melancholy lovers,” Valeska explains about ‘Midnight Children’. “It’s for the sensitive ones, moon howlers, the seekers and believers. This is both for the beauty and the ugliness we all carry inside. Cherish it!” Inspired by the elements and the emotions that coincide with them, we’re excited to hear Valeska’s Aerial Minds EP and more of her future releases.

Track Of The Day: The Blow – ‘Afterparty’

If you’re feeling a little sensitive after Friday night’s antics, we recommend listening to the upbeat ‘Afterparty’ by The Blow. It’s an understated “thrust of electro-acoustic punk energy” that’ll have you fixed up and ready to go again in a heartbeat.

Taken from their upcoming album Brand New Abyss, ‘Afterparty’ was written and produced by Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne using a production rig the duo painstakingly developed over the past four years. It’s a mothership of patched-together modular synthesizers, ancient samplers and audio production gear.

Brand New Abyss will be released on The Blow’s newly formed WOMANPRODUCER collective, a diverse platform for female, trans and non-binary sonic innovators. WOMANPRODUCER’s conversations, think-tanks and live performances have featured such luminaries as Neko Case, Zola Jesus, Pauline Oliveros, Suzi Analogue, Miho Hatori, Yuka C. Honda, Mirah and Val Inc. We’re loving the work this duo are doing and fully support their project.

Listen to ‘Afterparty’ below, and follow The Blow on Facebook for more updates.
