LISTEN: Misled Convoy & Kat Five – ‘Apply The Pressure’

Following the hypnotic power of last year’s ‘Butterfly Wings’, Feral Five’s Kat Five has now teamed up with Michael Hodgson, aka Misled Convoy, to create a blistering new single.

Inspired by the echoes of a conversation found on a Soviet-era spying device bought at a boot sale in East London, ‘Apply The Pressure’ offers a futuristic sonic gem. As a whirring tension builds, glitchy hooks and immense tribal beats propel the track as Kat’s eerie spoken word vocals add to the sweeping, cinematic soundscape. With an innovative musicality, infused with shades of funk and jazz,  it’s a gritty slice of striking trip-hop; taking you back to the dance-floors of the ’90s whilst maintaining a unique, fresh edge and stirring poignancy. A glistening sense of hope at a time when we need it the most, reminding us that “Out of the darkness, the new light comes…”

Track Of The Day: Feral Five – ‘Get A Grip’

Having most recently beguiled our ears with last single ‘EGO’, and with vibrant live shows with Black Grape and Miss Eaves under their belt, long-term faves Feral Five are back with an enticing new single.

A song for when enough is enough, ‘Get A Grip’ doesn’t hold back as it builds in tension, propelled by glitchy throbbing beats, whirring electro-fused hooks and a fierce driving energy. As the soaring Debbie Harry-reminiscent vocals of Kat ooze shades of ’80s pop, these collide with an innovative futuristic musicality and captivating psychedelic allure to create an utterly immersive and impressively unique sonic delight from this forward-thinking duo.

Mastered by Katie Tavini, ‘Get A Grip’ is out 27th November on all platforms.

LISTEN: Kat Five – ‘Butterfly Wings’

Having been big fans of electro punk duo Feral Five for some time now, it is with excitement that we’re able to share the debut solo single from Kat Five.

Inspired by a butterfly that flew into the studio one day, ‘Butterly Wings’ reflects on the need to unite to fight oppression. Featuring the actual sound of butterfly wings fluttering, it flows with a sweeping hypnotic power, throbbing electro beats, and deep resonant vocals with shades of the infectious trip hop of Massive Attack.

Of the track, Kat explains:

It’s a song of hope in dark times, and was inspired by Moroccan cultural organisation Racines – shut down by the government – and its slogan #LaCultureEstLaSolution. It has taken on new resonance closer to home, with its message that even the tiniest actions can create change.”

‘Butterfly Wings’ will be released 28th February.

Track Of The Day: Feral Five – ‘EGO’

Having previously wowed us with their unique, vibrant live show at The Finsbury, and more recently this year at Cro Cro Land, London/Kent based duo Kat and Drew, aka Feral Five, have now shared an innovative new track.

A take down and take over of monster egos everywhere, ‘EGO’ is propelled by throbbing, pulsating beats and glitchy hooks alongside its buzzing chip tune sounds and part German lyrics. A disconcerting, whirring soundscape that builds to an ’80s inspired electro-punk anthem, oozing an immersive, driving energy and seductive allure.

Listen to ‘EGO’ here:

The EGO launch show is on 29th September on the Tamesis Dock. Presented by ArtHertz at the Totally Thames Festival, it features Feral Five live, a live AV ambient set by Richard Norris (The Grid / Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve), and the Tamesis Trilogy I short film premiere – directed by Dennis Da Silva.
