WATCH: Barbarella’s Bang Bang – ‘Cowboy Job’

Dust off your stetsons and straw bales, because Barbarella’s Bang Bang have shared visuals for their latest single ‘Cowboy Job’, and it’s a rockabilly rodeo you don’t want to miss out on. Released via their own label Barbarella Records, the song is a twisted ode to a past relationship.

Fronted by Barbara Pugliese, Barbarella’s Bang Bang are comprised of members originating from Italy, Latvia and London – so their garage-rock sound is infused with influences from classical to punk rock. The ironically titled ‘Cowboy Job’ takes a story of heartbreak and reforms it into one of empowerment.

“This is the first time that I’ve written about something that gave me a lot of grief, with groove”, Barbara explains. “In regards to the satire within the lyrics, I must say, it’s been a very efficient healing method. With humour, the weight of something heavy gets lighter and we can get over things a bit easier. I’m actually grateful for having encountered this in my life, I was inspired a lot artistically. Let’s say that there’s sometimes a pearl to be found in the trash!”

Regarding the video, the band added, “The concept of the video of ‘Cowboy Job’ was to create wonky western Arizona scenery made out of cardboard that would visually reflect a ‘cowboy job style’. We tried our best to come out with some acting episodes that would portray the anger, laughter, humour, charm, and deception conveyed from the narrative of the song…and we did a pretty good job! The team involved in the making of the video were all close mates who are amazingly talented artists and helped efficiently within the process of filming the video… it’s all about the collective spirit and DIY!”

LISTEN: Hari Debi – ‘Air’

Riotous and intoxicating, London-based newcomers Hari Debi have shared their new single ‘Air’. The track is about the maddening but marvellous first stages of a new relationship.

Heavy guitar riffs and deceptively sweet vocals collide to communicate the feeling that “you physically need your lover in order to stay sane” in the early days of fresh romance. Recorded and produced by Hari Debi themselves, it’s a refreshing blast of garage rock.

The band will be playing at We Can Do It Records all-dayer on 28th July, alongside our favourites Witch Fever, Something Leather & After London (RSVP here).

LIVE: The Big Moon – Omeara, NME Awards Nominations Party, 17.01.18

They may have based their bitter-sweet single ‘Happy New Year’ around memory loss, but The Big Moon‘s set at Omeara on Wednesday night was far from forgettable. The band played the intimate venue as part of the NME Awards Nominations Party, and their garage-rock tunes and contagious enthusiasm kept the crowd bouncing from start to finish.

Introduced by NME Deputy Editor Tom Howard as “really great, and a little bit tipsy,” the band kicked things off with summery anthem ‘Silent Movie Susie’. What followed was a set-list brimming with tracks from their Mercury Prize nominated debut album, Love In The 4th Dimension.

Established singles like ‘The Road’ and ‘Sucker’ sounded as fresh as ever, whilst newer releases ‘Formidable’, ‘Cupid’ & ‘Pull The Other One’ were delivered with precision and charm. The riotous ‘Bonfire’ was the clear fan favourite, and when vocalist Juliette broke the fourth wall and made her way in to the middle of the crowd – their faces lit up.

The Omeara show marked the band’s first gig of 2018 and they thanked fans for coming out to join them on their “rusty roller-coaster”. As an unexpected treat, they covered Bonnie Tyler’s classic ballad ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ in their own joyful, laid-back style, before closing their set with ‘Sucker’. The Big Moon have an enviable ability to charm and impress a crowd with their relatable indie tunes and they left everyone* (*us) with heart-shaped eyes at the end of the night.

Vote for The Big Moon in the ‘Best Video’ category of the 2018 NME Awards!

Video Interview: DOLLS

(Originally posted on Gigslutz)

London-based duo Dolls have been on GIHE radar for a while and they should be on yours too. Jade (guitar/vocals) and Bel (drums/vocals) have been performing their raucous mix of bluesy garage rock together across London for three years and have built up a loyal following and excellent live reputation in the process.

They’re set to release their latest single ‘Armchair Psychiatrist’ on October 6th via Roadkill Records and they’ll be playing a free launch show at The Shacklewell Arms (presented by Roadkill & We Can Do It Promotions) on the same date. Features Editor Kate sat down with Jade & Bel to talk about their upcoming single, what they’re anticipating for their launch party, and Jade’s inability to ride a bike during The Nyx’s ‘Firebreathing Lady’ video shoot…

Huge thanks to Jade & Bel for their time. Follow DOLLS on Facebook for more updates, and subscribe to Clark Kents Rock and Roll Revue on Youtube for more cool band interviews.
