WATCH: Northwest – ‘London’

Although duo Northwest physically released their debut album – simply titled I – in June 2018, they only recently decided to publish it online. Why? well, it was part of the band’s manifesto (which they published on their website) where they decided to give away the digital version of their record to who anybody who personally requested it.

Since then, Northwest have sent 460 hand-written postcards all over the world, each one with an individual code to access the record online. It’s a bold approach to take for a DIY band in the age of the internet, but it’s one that has clearly paid off for the pair. They’ve now shared a music video for ‘London’ their “favourite” track on the album as a celebration of their efforts.

Directed by Ignacio Simón (one half of Northwest) and featuring images from photographer & artist Álvaro Gómez-Pidal, ‘London’ is a beautifully executed, intriguing set of visuals. “This is probably the hardest we’ve ever worked on a song and in a video, and we hope you like it as much as we do” explain the duo, and we’re sure their fans certainly will. WATCH: Mags On Earth – ‘Tulip Stone’

Influenced by her constantly changing surroundings and by the pressures associated with youth and living in the moment; Mags On Earth has shared her beautifully dreamy single ‘Tulip Stone’.

Born in Sweden, raised in Germany, and now living between London and Paris; Mags On Earth combines her love of these numerous city-scapes with the melancholic lyrical sensibilities of artists like Lana Del Rey and Bat For Lashes. ’Tulip Stone’ was recorded with producer Jose Manuel Cubides in London, and deals with “wondering what else life could be looking like right now, and the pressure of spending your youth in a certain way and how time keeps passing”.

The single is accompanied by a delicately shot video that Mags On Earth directed herself. Speaking about the footage, she explains: “I spent a month in Paris last October and was so inspired by the atmosphere. Paris has that authentic beauty and elegance that I strive for in my visuals, even in its less pretty parts. Paris is always Paris. And to me it feels kind of faded in the colours which really works well with the theme behind ‘Tulip Stone’”.

The new single is taken from Mags On Earth’s debut EP Girl in the City (available online now), which laments the “mundane in-between-feeling-stuck state of longing for something more, thinking nothing is ever enough”. WATCH: Noise Noir – ‘I Don’t Need You’

Garage rockers Noise Noir have shared Jessica Jones style vigilante visuals to accompany their debut single ‘I Don’t Need You’. The footage – shot and directed by Sergio Angot – shows band members actively taking down those who think it’s okay to harass women in public or private places.

Speaking about the video, vocalist Kelly Chard explains: “I wanted the video for ‘I Don’t Need You’ to be a hyperbole of the feelings I felt when writing the song. Sexual harassment is very present in London, and I wanted to play a Jessica Jones type character in the video. So instead of feeling emotionally strong, I felt physically strong enough to fight off bad guys. Reaching equality is very close to our hearts, so I wanted to highlight sexual harassment and domestic abuse. The video is set in various locations in London throughout the day to show how harassment and violence can happen on the streets in broad daylight, behind closed doors, and in a public busy surrounding.”

Recorded by Margo Broom (Big Joanie, Yassassin), mixed by Greg Burns of Sit Down, and released through Kelly’s independent record label We Can Do It, ‘I Don’t Need You’ is a seething attempt to shout back and empower those who have felt vulnerable or victimised by street harassment. Together; Kelly, guitarist Anthony, bassist Elis & drummer Davide are here to set the record straight through vicious riffs and powerful vocals. Video Premiere: Hilma Nikolaisen – ‘Only Me’

Following 2016’s debut Puzzler, Norwegian artist Hilma Nikolaisen has announced her upcoming new album Mjusic will be released next month, and has now graced our ears with an infectious new single.

Flowing with scuzzy hooks alongside Nikolaisen’s swooning, languid vocals, ‘Only Me’ oozes shades of the mellow alt-rock of the likes of Courtney Barnett or Pip Blom. Fuelled with impressive riffs and jangly, lo-fi melodies, it’s propelled by a paradoxical visceral energy whilst at the same time emanating all the dreamy, laid-back feels before it speeds to a final, whirring climax. Accompanied by a psychedelic new video, featuring artwork from Vanessa Baird, ‘Only Me’ is an uplifting slice of rock ‘n’ roll with a contemporary edge.

Of the video, Nikolaisen expands:

“I am a big fan of the artist Vanessa Baird. In 2016 I was fortunate to feature her work on the cover art for my debut album ‘Puzzler’. Baird’s breathtaking exhibition ‘You Are Something Else’ was really something else. I’m proud and grateful to have ‘Only Me’ and ‘You Are Something Else’ connected in this video.”

Mjusic, the upcoming new album from Hilma Nikolaisen, is out 30th November.
