LISTEN: BLÓM – ‘Meat’

A cathartic, riotous exploration of objectification and self autonomy; BLÓM‘s latest track ‘Meat’ is a raging cacophony of distorted guitars, vicious vocals and relentless percussion. Lifted from their album Flower Violence, which is set for release on 1st May via Box Records, the track is accompanied by a striking set of visuals, directed by Stuart Walkinshaw.

Self-described as “three qt punks playing pure radge shit; with female, trans and non binary members”, BLÓM are known for their blistering tunes that tackle inequality, and explore issues surrounding mental health and gender identity. On ‘Meat’, the band – along with Walkinshaw’s guidance – have taken live recordings of the song and mixed and mastered it to full fury levels for their upcoming album.

#ThrowbackThursday: GIHE w/ Amaroun 18.01.18

Due to the current lockdown/coronavirus situation, we’re unable to make it in to the Hoxton Radio studio to broadcast our live new music show from 7-9pm for the foreseeable future.

We have plenty of past shows to share with you though! We’re going to start sharing some #ThrowbackThursday sessions, so you can still enjoy 2 hours of new music, and chats with some of our favourite artists each week.

Today, we’ve picked our January 2018 show with Amaroun (who was due to visit us in the studio this week). She joined Kate & Tash to play two live tracks, and spoke about the inspirations behind her music. Music highlights came from ARXX, Black Gold Buffalo, Vivienne Chi and Sudan Archives.

Track Of The Day: Bugeye – ‘Don’t Stop’

London based four-piece Bugeye create forward-thinking, danceable punk. Their new single ‘Don’t Stop’ comes alongside the news that the band will be releasing their debut album later this year on independent record label, Reckless Yes.

Angela Martin’s Sleater Kinney-esque vocals and driving guitar team up with Grace Healy’s ’90s style synth lines in perfect harmony. ‘Don’t Stop’ is a riotously catchy number that will certainly make you want to dance, even if it is centred around the perils of drinking to excess.

Of the single, the band have explained: “’Don’t Stop’ is about alcohol abuse and the cyclical state that goes hand in hand with this. It’s a downward spiral of fuck ups and promises that tomorrow will be different. It’s about the denial of even having a problem in the first place and the pressure that society and the media put on us to ‘Don’t Stop’”

Having originally formed in the late ’90s, news of Bugeye’s debut album is a welcome development for fans and we certainly can’t wait to hear where their sound is headed. A steady stream of solid singles in recent years have already cemented their position as key players in the Riot Grrrl scene and we’re sure that this is a reputation that’s set to grow. Produced by Paul Tipler, Bugeye’s debut album is set for release later this year.
