Track Of The Day: REYKO – ‘The Game’

An intoxicating blend of quirky electronics and hushed vocals, London-based duo REYKO have shared their latest single ‘The Game’. The track is designed to distract listeners from the current situation and and encourage them to dance their way through the confusion.

Formed of vocalist Soleil and producer Igor, REYKO began making music together for the final project of Igor’s masters degree in music production. Since then, the pair have been busy creating their sultry sounds by mixing numerous styles together, including elements from electro, indie, pop, hip-hop and trap. On ‘The Game’, the pair underscore a playful desire for mental stimulation with subtle dancing beats and simple lyrical refrains.

The track is accompanied by an animated video directed by Aida Berengué. Featuring Soleil, the visuals reflect the need for escapism and fantasy in these unusual times.

Track Of The Day: Blonde Maze – ‘To The Moon’

Following recent single ‘Not All Flowers Bloom’, GIHE fave and previous guest on the radio show, New York based Blonde Maze, has now shared a poignant new offering.

Offering a ‘sequel’ to her last emotion-strewn single, ‘To The Moon’ reflects on how we can love someone or something so much, all the way “to the moon and back” – simulating that euphoric feeling of being totally enamoured through its heavenly sounds.

The second purely instrumental piece that Blonde Maze has created, it’s another completely captivating and beautifully soothing offering from the innovative artist; an exquisite soundscape, showcasing her ability to fuse together a luscious, eclectic range of influences and create something truly breathtaking. As I’ve said before, I just could listen to Blonde Maze on a loop forever – her music is just so blissfully cathartic.

Track Of The Day: Lucia & The Best Boys – ‘Perfectly Untrue’

Following their Eternity EP earlier this year, Lucia & The Best Boys have already announced the release of a brand new EP, and shared a heartfelt new single taken from the collection.

Showcasing the impassioned, swooning vocals of front woman Lucia Fairfull, ‘Perfectly Untrue’ is propelled by gritty hooks and a fierce, swirling emotion. Laying bare a raw, heartfelt splendour and dark majestic melancholy, it’s an instantly catchy slice of anthemic indie-rock. Of the track, Lucia explains:

When you are in a weird or dark headspace you see many versions of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. Perfectly Untrue’s “Happy Go Lucky” sound portrays the fake joy I push myself to feel in order to avoid the sad truth, which is displayed in the lyrics that are also coated in glitter and glamour – “dressed up in gold” and “dance until I die”.”

Lucia & The Best Boy’s new EP The State Of Things is out 9th October via Sweet Jane Recordings. And the band will be supporting Dream Wife on their 2021 April/May tour.

Track Of The Day: People Club – ‘Lay Down Your Weapons’

A powerful combination of emotive vocals and commanding beats, Berlin-based indie soul group People Club have shared their latest single ‘Lay Down Your Weapons’. It’s a charged offering that tackles the issues people of colour continue to struggle with in the face of police brutality, demanding peace through vehement protest.

“”Lay Down Your Weapons’ is about issues that weigh heavy on our hearts,” the band explain. “It was originally written in 2017 about issues of police brutality and the police militarisation that black and brown folks have disproportionately faced, and unfortunately we are still fighting these issues today. We are so proud of all the people on the front lines fighting for justice, for institutional reform/dissolution, for legislation, and for the safety and liberty that our BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities have long since deserved. We were asking…but now we’re demanding. We deserve justice, we deserve freedom, we deserve that our lives are valued. Black lives matter and defund the mother fucking police.”

Formed of Sarah Martin (lead vocals), Ray Sonder (bass, backing vocals), Saxon Gable (guitar, backing vocals), Pete Costello (keyboards, backing vocals) & Drew Deal (drums), People Club formed in 2018 after they each moved to Berlin in late 2017 from their respective countries (Australia, USA, UK, New Zealand). Together, they create moving, bold sounds designed to dismantle the un-nerving behaviours they witness in their own societies and the wider world.
