Following the success of latest single ‘Philadelphia’, and having recently charmed us once again with their spellbinding live set at The Finsbury, London based Gold Baby – now consisting of Siân, Scott and Sara – are back with their first offering of 2020.

A heartfelt meditation on what it means to care, ‘Dogbone’ oozes a shimmering musicality and quirky charisma as Siân’s raw, confessional lyricism flows, showcasing the impressive range of her luscious, crystalline vocals. Building to an emotion strewn grunge-pop anthem, it’s a dreamy, yet refreshingly gritty, lamentation on life’s anxieties.

Track Of The Day: Dream Nails – ‘Text Me Back (Chirpse Degree Burns)’

Having been treating us to their riotous, empowering offerings for some time now, GIHE faves, Dream Nails, have now announced the release of their long-awaited debut album.

Taken from the album, new single ‘Text Me Back (Chirpse Degree Burns)’ oozes the band’s distinctive raucous, punk-pop energy, as they address the anxious hellscape that is 21st century dating and the excruciating pain of being left on read; that modern-day dilemma of seeing those two blue ticks and being ghosted by your crush. 

With stomping beats, pounding bass-lines and immense riffage accompanying the fun-filled lyricism, ‘Text Me Back’ is an instantly smile-inducing anthem from the sparkling, formidable force of these London Punk Witches. Of the track, Janey from the band explains:

“For those born beyond the M25, ‘chirpse’ is London slang for flirting and ‘chirpse degree burns’ is our personal slang for the injuries borne from romantic misadventure. The song is a tribute to the gut-wrenching feeling of checking your phone every 5 minutes to see if your crush has replied.”

Guitarist Anya adds:

“God only knows how rational, sensible, competent people can be reduced to quivering beasts in moments like this – yet no punk witch is safe. If you’ve ever been ghosted, allow yourself to manically wallow.” 

 
‘Text Me Back’ is taken from Dream Nails’ eponymous debut album out 3rd April via Alcopop Records. Dream Nails are currently supporting Anti-Flag on their European tour, and you can catch them live for their album lunch at Oslo, London on 23rd April.

Track Of The Day: Post Louis – ‘Descender’

With a wry yet curious instrumental progression, London Art-Rockers Post Louis shuffle their way into groovy ears with their new single ‘Descender’. Teaming dreamy folk guitar riffs with elusive vocals and a sense of reflection,the band host a dejavu-like experience with the title track of their upcoming album. 

“Hold tight to anyone…”, Stephanie Davin’s spiralling vocals echo across a trail of rummaging instruments. It is here where the desperation of ‘Descender’ begins to paint its melancolic display. The story of someone’s emotional survival dances across the entire track, taking shape in lyrics and a floating choir of string instruments.

Midway through the song’s duration, whispy strings, fading vocals and glossy guitar cultivate together resulting in a captivating whirlwind of emotions. The sensitive tension of the mix becomes its own ‘Descender’ and concludes the piece’s inward questions and audacious alt-folk sounds.

Ending in a fluttering dreamscape, ‘Descender’ tucks its listeners into bed with its soft runoff of strings and lullaby whispers.

‘Descender’ is a lively, transformative adventure that showcases the versatility and profoundness of Post Louis’ approach to songwriting. And I’m sure the band have a brilliant new experience for their listeners in their anticipated debut album of the same name.

Track Of The Day: draag – ‘Ghost Leak’

A hazy ode to feeling inconsequential; L.A, shoegaze outfit draag have crafted a strung out, dreamy soundscape on their latest single ‘Ghost Leak’. The track is lifted from their upcoming EP Clara Luz, which is set for release on 21st February.

draag was originally a solo project, fronted by Adrian Acosta who was trained as a mariachi singer by his Father. After exploring the worlds of underground punk, no wave, and experimental jazz, Acosta soon met and added Jessica Huang, Nick Kelley, Ray Montes and Shane Graham to draag’s lineup. Together, the five piece create music that’s  garnered comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth.

Speaking about their latest single, Jessica Huang explains: “‘Ghost Leak’ is the feeling of being completely invisible and inconsequential. It is also a message to someone we lost — to let them know they weren’t invisible.” draag’s new EP has been underscored by personal hardships, illness and isolation, but there’s a sense of hope that filters through their muddy soundscapes, making it easy to escape into their music.
