Track Of The Day: Fallulah – ‘Light My Fire’ (The Doors Cover)

We’re partial to a beautiful cover song here at Get In Her Ears, and Denmark artist Fallulah‘s rendition of The Doors’ classic ‘Light My Fire’ has made our knees weak with its sultry vocals and atmospheric keys.

The song is part of an interesting, powerful project called ‘Instant Love’, where both emerging and established female musicians reinterpret classic love songs originally sung by men about women, re-imagined and without changing the gender. Tracks have been revealed on a monthly basis to great appeal in the US which has lead to the album, Instant Love: Volume 1, being announced for release worldwide in January 2018.

Highlights from the project include Erika Spring’s (Au Revoir Simone) version of Donavan classic ‘Colours’ and Nicole Atkins’ re-work of Ryan Adams’ ‘Amy’. The project will be continuing throughout 2018 with new music and releases and we can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

Track Of The Day: Bitch Falcon – ‘Of Heart’

Having previously wowed us with their incredible live set at The Finsbury, and received support from the likes of Huw Stephens, Dublin band Bitch Falcon are fast building a reputation for their unique brand of raucous rock anthems. And latest single ‘Of Heart’ looks set to continue this run of success…

At an epic six minutes long, the band’s latest offering is drenched in a swirling, reverb-filled scuzz as it takes a hold of you with its dark, seething power. As the raw ferocity of Lizzie Fitzpatrick’s vocals penetrate with their immense, snarling power, the track builds to a whirring, frenzied climax; once again securing Bitch Falcon’s place as one of the most exciting bands to come out of Ireland in a very long time.

We cannot wait for Bitch Falcon to ferry over to play for us again soon (please)!

‘Of Heart’ is out now. Stream on Spotify and iTunes.

Track Of The Day: HAWK – ‘Can’t Explain’

As any avid follower of Get In Her Ears will be aware, we’re pretty besotted with everything Berlin-based HAWK create, and their latest single is no exception. Released as a AA side with accompanying track ‘Below’, ‘Can’t Explain’ is a wonderfully intense whirlwind of burning passion.

Somewhat heavier than past material, the track was written as a reaction to people’s ignorance and the power privilege has to erase the voices of those who need to be heard. Continuing HAWK’s track record of creating captivating soundscapes with an acute social awareness, ‘Can’t Explain’ oozes thrashing riffs and urgent beats, as the immense power of Julie Hawk’s soaring vocals builds the tension and drives it forwards with an empowering, impassioned splendour. Although perhaps more raucous in sound that previous offerings, the track loses none of the glorious, spellbinding beauty and enchanting grace that the band have become known for.

‘Can’t Explain’ once again proves why it’s vital that we have HAWK in our lives. Not only intent on creating rousing sonic delights, they are dedicated to raising awareness of pressing social issues, and bring them to the fore of all they do.

‘Can’t Explain’/’Below’ is out now via Veta Records. Listen on Spotify.

You also ought to check out Julie’s ‘Female Fronted Drawn Together’ playist, and make sure you don’t miss HAWK live at The Lexington tonight!

Track Of The Day: Anushka – ‘Mountains’

If you’re looking for something to funk up your Tuesday, Brighton duo Anushka are here to do just that. Together, Max Wheeler and Victoria Port combine elements of soul, house, jazz and hip hop to create a fresh, psychedelic, up-beat sound.

“It’s a song about how we are so often thrown into situations with people and they just aren’t ready to step up and be in the moment,” the band explain. “It’s about personal growth and how we move on from people, how we reconcile and forgive and about how we become our own strength.”

Anushka are preparing to share their new EP, which will feature artwork from artist and fashion designer Ryan Hawaii, in the next few months.

Listen to ‘Mountains’ below.
