PREMIERE: Kama Vardi – ‘These Days’

Having spent a nomadic youth travelling, experimenting and creating, Tel Aviv based artist Kama Vardi has released a stream of solo material to much acclaim, and has now announced a brand new album, set for release this Autumn.

Taken from the album, new single ‘These Days’ may be a cover of the Nico classic, but it showcases Vardi’s unique sparkling majesty. Maintaining all the beguiling allure of the original, this rendition oozes a captivating mysticism as the shimmering splendour of Vardi’s distinctive vocals and the gentle lilting melodies create a soothing, poignant lullaby. A strikingly beautiful moment of much-needed tranquility at a time when we need it the most.

Of the decision to cover ‘These Days’, Vardi explains:

“‘These Days’ – no longer a gambler, a talker, a lover. It is a song of a woman who had great adventures that left her standing humble, wide eyed and weary in front of the rest of her life, a feeling I was familiar with from a young age.”

VIDEO PREMIERE: BLAB – ‘R.I.P’

A savage combination of wicked guitar riffs, sardonic vocals and witty lyrics, Essex-based artist BLAB has shared her debut single ‘R.I.P’. Released today (3rd July) via Cool Thing Records, the track is a cathartic expression of personal frustration designed to help listeners move past their lingering resentments.

“Being able to express anger in an unfiltered way can be super super healthy, as long as you’re not hurting others” explains Frances Murray – aka BLAB. ON ‘R.I.P’ she playfully rips through her unresolved anguish, turning it into an indie-pop, punk-infused anthem. “To me, it feels like a reclamation of power to be able to freely express my anger from that time in my life. It’s such a bold statement that it had to be the first single; it’s like opening a can of worms and a firework coming at you instead!”

The accompanying video for ‘R.I.P’ was shot by Murray during isolation and playfully reflects both the frustrations explored in the track, and the restrictions the lockdown has imposed on artists. BLAB won’t be held back by these things though, and ‘R.I.P’ is a hectic debut from this emerging new talent.

Video Premiere: Bugeye – ‘Blue Fire’

Following their last uplifting single, ‘When The Lights Go Out’, and with acclaim from the likes of John Kennedy and Amazing Radio, GIHE faves Bugeye have now shared another offering from their upcoming debut album.

Raging with Angela Martin’s gritty, sultry vocals and whirring electro hooks, ‘Blue Fire’ is perhaps more disco and less punk than previous releases, but maintains all the colourful pizzazz and magnificent vibrant energy that we’ve come to know and love from the band. A perfect uptempo blast of life that we all need right now.

A woman of many talents (musician, songwriter, promoter, manager, mother and now film-maker, to name a few!), Angela has now made a beautiful homemade new video for ‘Blue Fire’. An immersive collage of footage of the band spliced together with poignant clips of masked protesters, it perfectly captures all the colour and retro energy of Bugeye, whilst oozing a striking riotous force in these uncertain times. A necessary watch from this awesome group of wonder-women.

VIDEO PREMIERE: Death Hags – ‘The Darkest Night’

A slow-burning, intoxicating soundscape that explores what the night can bring; Death Hags has shared visuals for her latest single, ‘The Darkest Night’. The track is lifted from her recent album, Big Grey Sun #2, which is the second part of an ambitious seven album multimedia project.

Based in L.A., electronic musician Death Hags (aka Lola G) fuses pulsing beats with dark, kaleidoscopic synth textures to create her captivating sounds. Inspired by two days worth of hallucinations caused by a dog bite, she released Big Grey Sun #1 in 2019. Album #2 quickly followed in March 2020, and continues to explore the eclectic nature of the human condition and all of its possible futures. ‘The Darkest Night’ is an extract from this continuing narrative.

“I started writing the song in the van during the drive back to L.A. from SXSW last year” explains Death Hags. “It came to life at Outside Inside Studio in Italy, with my friend Matt Bordin of the psychedelic collective Squadra Omega. Matt is a great producer and has some wonderful analog/modular synths that we used on this track. Not to be too on the nose, but I guess this track is about forging ahead into the night, to see what dawn brings.”
