Track Of The Day: Blonde Maze – ‘To The Moon’

Following recent single ‘Not All Flowers Bloom’, GIHE fave and previous guest on the radio show, New York based Blonde Maze, has now shared a poignant new offering.

Offering a ‘sequel’ to her last emotion-strewn single, ‘To The Moon’ reflects on how we can love someone or something so much, all the way “to the moon and back” – simulating that euphoric feeling of being totally enamoured through its heavenly sounds.

The second purely instrumental piece that Blonde Maze has created, it’s another completely captivating and beautifully soothing offering from the innovative artist; an exquisite soundscape, showcasing her ability to fuse together a luscious, eclectic range of influences and create something truly breathtaking. As I’ve said before, I just could listen to Blonde Maze on a loop forever – her music is just so blissfully cathartic.

Video Premiere: NUUXS – ‘Laundry’

Following acclaim from the likes of Annie Mac, Clash and BBC Introducing for 2019’s Redtape Mixtape, London-based artist NUUXS has now shared a vibrant new video.

Propelled by a soulful, sparkling energy, ‘Laundry’ offers a poignant reflection on the domestic pressures that many in society face. Flowing with a shimmering heartfelt groove, danceable glitchy beats and luscious sultry vocals, it’s an uplifting sun-strewn slice of alt-pop. Of the track, NUUXS explains:

Having observed my mum, the once vivacious ballerina, turn into a very tired woman with severe back pains from all the heavy duty washing she was doing, I could see why some might turn to alcohol as a form of solace. So I guess this song is me being pissed off with how society can be, and how the government can be. This is the time more than ever that we should see community being at the forefront of leadership.

‘Laundry’ is accompanied by an artfully created kaleidoscopic new video, hand-painted by animator Charlie Cross. Speaking more about the video, NUUXS expands:

“… it’s inspired by the metaphorical concept for ‘Laundry’, including the idea of “stress is a killer” being shown in the bloodstream and the countdown on the actual washing machine itself representing “the pressure is on”, referring to the pressures of life as we know it.”

Watch the new video for ‘Laundry’ now:

‘Laundry’ is the 3rd single from NUUXS’ forthcoming debut album Heirloom.

Track Of The Day: Everything And Everybody – ‘Lifequake’

A vibrant pop tune that challenges gender stereotypes, Berlin based duo Everything and Everybody have shared their latest single ‘Lifequake’. Blending jazzy beats with alt-pop melodies, the pair playfully question the expectations that heteronormative society imposes on individuals when it comes to their gender identity.

“The song challenges not only what is seen to be stereotypically female, but also what’s supposed to be stereotypically male,” the duo explain. “The song lists a few clichés. That of a passive woman: romanticising, emotionally stirred up. In need of a man’s confirmation in order to develop her self-esteem. And that of an active man who fights his way through life: lonely, cool, closed-lipped. For him everything is a fight, and he must emerge as the winner in order not to appear weak. Questions are posed. ‘Are you a girl?’, ‘Are you a boy?’. There’s no valuation intended, it’s more an invitation to questioning so-called female and male behavioural patterns, which are consciously or unconsciously, in any case unquestioningly accepted and passed on. The chorus pleads for living the way you are and feel, without being reduced to stereotypical patterns.”

The track is accompanied by a colourful, kaleidoscopic set of visuals that also reflect the tunes buoyant nature. With a sound that’s based on “chemistry, attitude and humour,” Everything And Everybody’s future musical offerings look set to be just as joyful and carefree as this one. Listen to ‘Lifequake’ below and follow the band on bandcamp, Facebook and Spotify for more updates.
